Gerd Müller is and always will be the only ever-present player in my top 11 of all time. I can change Maldini, Neeskens, Pelè or Maradona but I'll never put him out of my team. Grazie Gerd, respect from Italy.
He is the best ever pure centre forward and finisher I've ever seen. He had an instinct for where he should position himself in the box, it was just uncanny. You can't learn or teach that, it's almost like a sixth sense.
As a Dutchman, when i heard Johan Cruijff had cancer, i felt sorry for him. He was confident he would overcome his illness. When i heard Gerd Müller had severe Alzheimers disease, i literally cried. I'm crying while writing this. Many older Dutch people disliked him for his winning goal in the 1974 final, but for me he's my favorite football player of all time. And what a story: coming from a very modest poor background with little education, which a number of staff and other Bayern players looked down upon, mocked for his physique at first, to become the greatest striker that ever lived. Rest in peace dear Gerd.
