If you do more non-english pics in the future, you could always do a community poll for Sub vs. Dub to see what people prefer for that specific thing! There's many shows where the audiences think the dub is good/fine, and others where they'd be more likely to prefer the sub, like with this show. I'd just say that you can only experience a piece of media for the first time once, so you may as well just do whatever you think you'll enjoy the most!

I physically cannot force myself to watch the rest of this video (only got through episode 1) because the dub is so god awful. Whoever did the hiring for the english voice actors needs to find another career path fr, and the voice actors should probably do the same tbh It's a shame, I really like Mel's reactions, but the secondhand embarrassment I get from the terrible dub is just too much :( I was really excited for this video before realizing the majority of it was dubbed.

It's so backwards people like you or others agree that Sang Woo is relatable/realistic, I heavily disagree because the most realistic characters would be the two girls, Sae Byeok and the other girl, but the scene where she purposely loss the marble game is one of the more realistic moments many would do, many would have the strength, or some kind of agreement to not let each other die over greed of their own life Sang Woo is not realistic, more so psychotic, and if you think for a moment most of your friends and close people would two face you in moments like these, then you need a new set of friends or just a better mind set in general, I think more so Sae Byeok is most realistic, she stuck to it to the end without ever thinking of backstabbing her friends, and if given the chance she'll die and take a fall for the others to continue or win, the only thing Sang Woo did realistically was taking the fatal blow to himself in the end. Pretty much everyone who was a close friend are the realistic ones, and there is no way a feeble minded person like Sang Woo would ever carry on his reign of psychotic actions thinking he could remotely have this in the bag, not when it comes down to when it really matters and who is mentally stronger and stabled, I don't know about you all, but there is no way in hell the sentence "You have to be like that to survive in there" would be what a majority of people would think or do over their own closest friends or those who put trust in you, sure you can use that to outwit those who are doing the whole group and everyone wrong or whoever are the bullies/little punks to make the place less of a living hell hole, but I don't know, some people succumb to fragility which is understandable but to nowhere near expectable to the point of how Sang Woo acted and deceived, but I find it more common people will be like Sae Byeok, Ali, Gi-hun and the other girl overall

Absolutely. And not to mention... some of the accents of the dubbed voice actors didn't even sound Korean. For example, the dub for the old man (53:12) is like some generic Japanese anime grandpa accent. Like, if you're going to dub in English, at least get some Korean voice actors who sound somewhat similar and actually sound like they're from Korea. Little details like that totally take me out of the zone 🥴

Dubbed sounds so terrible. Complaining people need to learn to read and take contextual clues more ffs. I stopped watching this reaction after the 2nd episode cuz I just couldnt take the horrible western accents and bad voice acting. Ugh. Ah well.
My favourite thing about this series if the foreshadowing that they do in episode 2. It basically tells you how the main characters will die. 1. Abdul stole from his boss (even though he totally deserved that money) and then cho sang woo steals his marbles getting him killed. 2. Kang sae byeok threatened to slit a guys thoat and ends up with her throat cut by cho sang woo. 3. Jang deok su jumps of a bridge to get away from gang members, han mi nyeo throws them both off of the glass bridge. 4. Cho sang woo was about to commit suicide in his bathtub and ends up killing himself so that seong gi hun can win. 5. The old man is seen waiting outside the hospital when waiting to be picked up to go back into the games and ultimately dies from his brain tumor. 6. Seong gi hun swore "on his mother's life" that he wouldn't bother kang sae byeok about the money she stole from him and then immediately goes back on his word, when he gets back from the games his mother is dead. The second episode became my favorite after realising all that.
What hurts me the most is that they fully intended someone to die that last night. They'd never have an unmatched game of 3, we saw that with the other woman. They knew what they were doing leaving those knives for them, those doors weren't going to open until blood was spilled. It hurts to know she never had a chance
Also something that pisses me off is the old man buying a whole ass building for that one meeting, just the definition of wasteful. There were no other floors on the buttons cause they had no function

Korean shows and films in general have pretty awesome scoring. Squid Game, Parasite, Money Heist: Korea, etc. I'm always so impressed by the genius musical accompaniments at the perfect moments.
The girl in episode 6 make me cry so much 😭 At first you didn't quite get she was telling her backstory about her father being an abussive dude that killed her mom. But at the end you know she was selfless and didn't have any motive to live. She make Sae Byeok win, and hope she could find a way out 😢 that episode 💔
Not only physically abusive but would rape her, his daughter, and just pray for forgiveness yet repeat his actions believing that the prayers absolved him of his horrific actions. Things he chose to do to others yet acted like they were compulsions.
i know there are already a million comments about the sub v dub, but episode 6 and 8 are the most emotional episodes of the show and i'm seeing how much all of it gets lost without the original language.

Korean here, the nuances and emotions and the performance absolutely plowed over and erased to be replaced with some mediocre basement recording was insulting to the original work because some people don't have the mental capacity to read.
I mean I get it if you’re trying to watch without really watching cuz I watch a lot of content while doing other things like working or gaming, but that’s why I waited to watch this for so long until I had the chance to sit and ACTUALLY *watch* it (because I saw the first episode wasn’t dubbed, I assumed the rest wouldn’t be either) but hearing that all the episodes are dubbed after the first, it’s almost intolerable lol. I can’t stand dubbed audio 😭 it always sounds so awful no matter what. It just isn’t the same as the actors actual voice and emotion as they’re acting out the scene.

I see a LOT of comments about watching the dubbed version, but I have to agree. The whole reason for watching it with subtitles is because you get to see and hear the actual ACTING of the people in the show. When it’s dubbed you see it, but you lose out on hearing it. These actors are absolutely amazing and their voices are just as important to the acting as their physical performances. Still, now that you have watched it dubbed for your channel, I recommend you watch it again on your own with subtitles so you can truly appreciate how amazing a job the cast did. 👍

Song-woo killed himself because his ultimate reason for being there from the time he got back in the van was to protect his mother from paying for the debt he had. He resolved to do horrible things to protect her, and that's what he did. When it came right down to it at the end, and he could have walked away alive but without the money, he chose to die because he believed his childhood friend, the guy who had just proven he'd somehow made it through everything without turning into a monster, would use the prize money to make sure his mom was okay. Very calculating guy, who did horrific things, but a very compelling character.
I thought the format was perfect because Ive already watched hella reaction vids right when it came out. This format made sense for the scenario. I just got my snacks and drinks and hung out. Cried during episode 6 agaaaiinnn. Lots of fun. Glad you watched it.
This show was an extremely tough watch, and I think the real brilliance of it is the way they made this horrorscape weirdly accessible. The really reprehensible act that all of the contestants on this show committed was going back to the island after they knew good and goddamn well what the entire thing was. After you've made that choice, you're just in a spot where the only way out is through it.
The horror comes partially from how relatable the situation is Obviously this is satire and exaggerated to the extreme, but many around the world feel like they’re playing the Squid Game in real life. The concept transcends Korea and is pretty much universal
I love how the situation prompting them to come back in the outside world was brilliantly done. The situation foreshadowed how they were going to die later in the game. Sang-woo was trying to kill himself, Ali was swindled out of what he earned, and Sae-byeok almost cut someone’s throat. Even Jang Deok-su died from a fall.
Stopped at your dub announcement to say you got steered in the wrong direction. You shouldn't listen to the people who can't read, they're not going to give you the best advice. You really missed out on some excellent performances.
Rewatching this I feel like we should have seen the old man’s connection when he was the only one who was able to get the pink dudes to stop the massacre the first night. It wasn’t until he started shouting at them to do something that they turned on the lights and entered the room to bring order. Can’t wait for season 2
The reason for sub being better than dub is so you get the whole performance of the actor speaking in a foreign language. In Anime, that’s less important since it’s just vocals. When it’s (foreign live action) dubbed over, the words might be similar, but you don’t hear the inflections, tone, volume, etc… of the lines being performed in the language we’re meant to hear. Even if you didn’t choose sub for this video, you must see it that way on ya own for the full experience as it was intended.
I feel that it matters in Anime, too. It was after watching Akira, first in English dubbed then in Japanese with subtitles that subtitles became my preference when watching anything foreign language. For me, what was being said in English didn't match the actions/reactions of the characters that I was seeing on screen. When I watched it a second time but subbed, it all made more sense.
@@scabbedwings6548 I also prefer subbed anime over dubbed. The main exception is DBZ. Vocal performance in subbed anime can be great too, just not as crucial as live action. But It’s best when you speak the native language and are able to see and understand it naturally. Instead of artificially via dubs

Echoing other peoples sentiments, I wish people hadn’t complained so much that it convinced you to switch to the dubbed version to shut them up. While the subtitles in the sub version aren’t 100% accurate, they are far more accurate than the dub. You miss out on so much of the correct voice inflections and context with the dub version, unfortunately :( Not faulting you for it, also not bitching at you or saying you have to do things the way I like it or a certain way, I just thought you may have wanted to know that the subs have so much more context and emotion in them, because the dubs are off in a lot of areas, plus the voice actors are just…bad.
Trivia: 1.The Vips Masks were inspired by A Kubrick film Called Eyes Wide Shut(do recommend it but it gonna be hard to released it on TH-cam) 2.The man playing the Front Man is Lee Byung-hun,hes known for a lot of films like The good ,the bad and the weird and many more Korean films, he also did Hollywood movies like Terminator :Genesis and G.I Joe 3,It was inspired by Alice in Wonderland 4.The man playing Jang Deuk actually got death threats for this role that he was never the same after, he gained weight for this role.

Ugh, the marbles episode is BRUTAL. It still makes me cry every single time. This show's so good! Also I think you missed the point about the drunk guy outside. What the main character was supposed to do was go save the drunk guy HIMSELF. But he doesn't - he sits around waiting and watching, just like the VIPs in the game. By doing so, he proves that he's no better than them. Thus he proves Il Nam's point. It seems unrelated to the conversation they're having, but it's not.

I am so confused how Mell has literally never heard of rare steak before lmao It's bloody and red on the inside ON PURPOSE, Mell. It is really frigging good, and yes, it's hot. They cook it for about 5-7 mins depending on how big the cut is. If it's a premium cut, the knife will literally slide through it like as if it's butter.
I just wrote a comment on his commentary about the steak also lol The only thing you have wrong is that it’s not blood, it’s just juices. There’s no blood left in cuts of beef, it’s drained in the processing. All it is, is a mixture of water and protein (myoglobin to be exact), and it’s tasty as hell! :)
Idk if this is everywhere or even Mell's experience but at least where I grew up in Compton and where my cousin grew up in Jamaica alot of black people were raised to not eat steak unless it's well done. Sometimes it's due to religious beliefs. I've heard Methodist and Baptist preachers say that eating rare/medium rare steak ECT is eat the life of the animal since "life is in the blood" ......... Noone is my family eats steak that isn't well done. And I've never had rough well done steak from home. I didn't know that steak can be that rough until I had well done steak at a restaurant.my mom has always been able to make steak soft and juicy and well done 🤗 again this is just my experience and a guess/assumption based off of my experience and surroundings......
Sang woo understood that only one person makes it out and it was life or death for him since day one. I actually totally get his side of things even if he had to do it in a sly way, he still did what he needed to do to survive. This guy has killed but so has everyone else. GiHun was ready to let the old man die just like SungWoo did with Ali. No he didn’t hate GiHun, he just knew. Also his mother doesn’t deserve the hate bro, she was kind since day one, and she did raise a good son - he just went through a different life, and then she lost him.

Finally your doing this ,One if my favorite tv shows along with Twin Peaks(I do recommend this show if you like Stranger Things). I'm on the opposite side. I understand the hype weekly releases can bring, and that it causes discusses to last longer, but I love my binge watching. As soon as I could just watch a whole season all at once, I couldn't go back to waiting between each episode. Now if something is a weekly release, I just wait until it's all been released so I can binge.
It’s also a difference in how the shooting schedule is in Korea vs the West. In the US, for example, shows like this are generally filmed and completed by the time they start airing. In Korea, they are being filmed and then released a week or two, up to a month, later. There are Korean actors who have commented on this in interviews and how weird it was to film and then see the show be released a year or two later.
Mel, there had to be no less than 30 times I wanted to give you a hug thru-out this video. I got emotional during this show quite a few times as well, really goes to show you just how well its directed and acted.

It's so backwards people like you or others agree that Sang Woo is relatable/realistic, I heavily disagree because the most realistic characters would be the two girls, Sae Byeok and the other girl, but the scene where she purposely loss the marble game is one of the more realistic moments many would do, many would have the strength, or some kind of agreement to not let each other die over greed of their own life
Sang Woo is not realistic, more so psychotic, and if you think for a moment most of your friends and close people would two face you in moments like these, then you need a new set of friends or just a better mind set in general, I think more so Sae Byeok is most realistic, she stuck to it to the end without ever thinking of backstabbing her friends, and if given the chance she'll die and take a fall for the others to continue or win, the only thing Sang Woo did realistically was taking the fatal blow to himself in the end.
Pretty much everyone who was a close friend are the realistic ones, and there is no way a feeble minded person like Sang Woo would ever carry on his reign of psychotic actions thinking he could remotely have this in the bag, not when it comes down to when it really matters and who is mentally stronger and stabled, I don't know about you all, but there is no way in hell the sentence "You have to be like that to survive in there" would be what a majority of people would think or do over their own closest friends or those who put trust in you, sure you can use that to outwit those who are doing the whole group and everyone wrong or whoever are the bullies/little punks to make the place less of a living hell hole, but I don't know, some people succumb to fragility which is understandable but to nowhere near expectable to the point of how Sang Woo acted and deceived, but I find it more common people will be like Sae Byeok, Ali, Gi-hun and the other girl overall

For example, the dub for the old man (53:12) is like some generic Japanese anime grandpa accent. My favourite thing about this series if the foreshadowing that they do in episode 2. It basically tells you how the main characters will die.
1. Abdul stole from his boss (even though he totally deserved that money) and then cho sang woo steals his marbles getting him killed.
2. Kang sae byeok threatened to slit a guys thoat and ends up with her throat cut by cho sang woo.
3. Jang deok su jumps of a bridge to get away from gang members, han mi nyeo throws them both off of the glass bridge.
4. Cho sang woo was about to commit suicide in his bathtub and ends up killing himself so that seong gi hun can win.
5. The old man is seen waiting outside the hospital when waiting to be picked up to go back into the games and ultimately dies from his brain tumor.
6. Seong gi hun swore "on his mother's life" that he wouldn't bother kang sae byeok about the money she stole from him and then immediately goes back on his word, when he gets back from the games his mother is dead.
The second episode became my favorite after realising all that.

What hurts me the most is that they fully intended someone to die that last night. They'd never have an unmatched game of 3, we saw that with the other woman. They knew what they were doing leaving those knives for them, those doors weren't going to open until blood was spilled. It hurts to know she never had a chance

Korean shows and films in general have pretty awesome scoring. Squid Game, Parasite, Money Heist: Korea, etc. I'm always so impressed by the genius musical accompaniments at the perfect moments.

At first you didn't quite get she was telling her backstory about her father being an abussive dude that killed her mom. But at the end you know she was selfless and didn't have any motive to live.

Man, the dub is inferior to the original. Personally feel if the viewers are interested they can read or go on the wiki. The dub loses so much of the raw emotion the actors put into their performance
Korean here, the nuances and emotions and the performance absolutely plowed over and erased to be replaced with some mediocre basement recording was insulting to the original work because some people don't have the mental capacity to read.
I mean I get it if you’re trying to watch without really watching cuz I watch a lot of content while doing other things like working or gaming, but that’s why I waited to watch this for so long until I had the chance to sit and ACTUALLY *watch* it (because I saw the first episode wasn’t dubbed, I assumed the rest wouldn’t be either) but hearing that all the episodes are dubbed after the first, it’s almost intolerable lol. I can’t stand dubbed audio 😭 it always sounds so awful no matter what. It just isn’t the same as the actors actual voice and emotion as they’re acting out the scene.

I see a LOT of comments about watching the dubbed version, but I have to agree. The whole reason for watching it with subtitles is because you get to see and hear the actual ACTING of the people in the show. When it’s dubbed you see it, but you lose out on hearing it. These actors are absolutely amazing and their voices are just as important to the acting as their physical performances. Still, now that you have watched it dubbed for your channel, I recommend you watch it again on your own with subtitles so you can truly appreciate how amazing a job the cast did. 👍

Song-woo killed himself because his ultimate reason for being there from the time he got back in the van was to protect his mother from paying for the debt he had. He resolved to do horrible things to protect her, and that's what he did. When it came right down to it at the end, and he could have walked away alive but without the money, he chose to die because he believed his childhood friend, the guy who had just proven he'd somehow made it through everything without turning into a monster, would use the prize money to make sure his mom was okay. Very calculating guy, who did horrific things, but a very compelling character.

This show was an extremely tough watch, and I think the real brilliance of it is the way they made this horrorscape weirdly accessible.
The really reprehensible act that all of the contestants on this show committed was going back to the island after they knew good and goddamn well what the entire thing was. After you've made that choice, you're just in a spot where the only way out is through it.
The horror comes partially from how relatable the situation is
Obviously this is satire and exaggerated to the extreme, but many around the world feel like they’re playing the Squid Game in real life. The concept transcends Korea and is pretty much universal
I love how the situation prompting them to come back in the outside world was brilliantly done. The situation foreshadowed how they were going to die later in the game. Sang-woo was trying to kill himself, Ali was swindled out of what he earned, and Sae-byeok almost cut someone’s throat. Even Jang Deok-su died from a fall.

Rewatching this I feel like we should have seen the old man’s connection when he was the only one who was able to get the pink dudes to stop the massacre the first night. It wasn’t until he started shouting at them to do something that they turned on the lights and entered the room to bring order. Can’t wait for season 2

The reason for sub being better than dub is so you get the whole performance of the actor speaking in a foreign language. In Anime, that’s less important since it’s just vocals. When it’s (foreign live action) dubbed over, the words might be similar, but you don’t hear the inflections, tone, volume, etc… of the lines being performed in the language we’re meant to hear. Even if you didn’t choose sub for this video, you must see it that way on ya own for the full experience as it was intended.
I feel that it matters in Anime, too. It was after watching Akira, first in English dubbed then in Japanese with subtitles that subtitles became my preference when watching anything foreign language. For me, what was being said in English didn't match the actions/reactions of the characters that I was seeing on screen. When I watched it a second time but subbed, it all made more sense.

But It’s best when you speak the native language and are able to see and understand it naturally. Instead of artificially via dubs

Echoing other peoples sentiments, I wish people hadn’t complained so much that it convinced you to switch to the dubbed version to shut them up. While the subtitles in the sub version aren’t 100% accurate, they are far more accurate than the dub. You miss out on so much of the correct voice inflections and context with the dub version, unfortunately :(
Not faulting you for it, also not bitching at you or saying you have to do things the way I like it or a certain way, I just thought you may have wanted to know that the subs have so much more context and emotion in them, because the dubs are off in a lot of areas, plus the voice actors are just…bad.

The only thing you have wrong is that it’s not blood, it’s just juices. There’s no blood left in cuts of beef, it’s drained in the processing. All it is, is a mixture of water and protein (myoglobin to be exact), and it’s tasty as hell! :)
Idk if this is everywhere or even Mell's experience but at least where I grew up in Compton and where my cousin grew up in Jamaica alot of black people were raised to not eat steak unless it's well done.

I actually totally get his side of things even if he had to do it in a sly way, he still did what he needed to do to survive. This guy has killed but so has everyone else. GiHun was ready to let the old man die just like SungWoo did with Ali. No he didn’t hate GiHun, he just knew. Also his mother doesn’t deserve the hate bro, she was kind since day one, and she did raise a good son - he just went through a different life, and then she lost him.

Edit: the creator came up with the idea because he himself was broke and was in debt trying to get this picked up. It got turned down for ten years. There’s a great interview with the two main characters the director, and the art director. And she goes into the detail of coming up with the set. She really raised the bar on set design.

I'm on the opposite side. I understand the hype weekly releases can bring, and that it causes discusses to last longer, but I love my binge watching. As soon as I could just watch a whole season all at once, I couldn't go back to waiting between each episode. Now if something is a weekly release, I just wait until it's all been released so I can binge.
It’s also a difference in how the shooting schedule is in Korea vs the West. In the US, for example, shows like this are generally filmed and completed by the time they start airing. In Korea, they are being filmed and then released a week or two, up to a month, later. There are Korean actors who have commented on this in interviews and how weird it was to film and then see the show be released a year or two later.
