    That shirt... perfect. Just a note - the Tempus Fugit stuff is good in iced coffee drinks. I tried it on a whim and it was really good, even just a tablespoon or two in a 16 ounce drink. :)

      I've been on a big "banana in tiki/rum drinks" kick and have had TF for several months... adding it to iced coffee never occurred to me. This bottle is gonna be gone much quicker now I think after this inspiration!

    The Gros Michel still exists, it's just no longer commercially viable. You can buy them, both the bananas and the plants themselves.

    I did this same test awhile ago, but my low-end was dekuyper. That one is also just banana runts with alcohol. For me, the ripeness of the tempest fugit made it the clear winner. Nothing wrong with Giffard, except I thought it was too pricey for my enjoyment of it vs. either of the others (I love banana runts).

    Giffard definitely has the most pure banana flavor.
    Tempus Fugit is good, though to me me, it tastes more like walnuts in banana bread, than actual banana.

    I bought 99 bananas but then I mixed it 2:1 with some VS brandy and macerated 5 fresh red bananas in it for a month and strained it. The result was much improved and still fairly high abv.

    I recently threw away a bottle of 99 bananas and 99 apples that I had on my shelf for 10 years. My only regret is now I would have to buy another bottle of 99 bananas if I wanted to make that liqueur from Tropical Standard. I haven't tried the Giffard, but in cocktails I love the Tempus Fugit.

  • @adamparker5467
    @adamparker5467 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I’m here to defend the Tempus Fugit. Giffard is the clear winner, but I like the tobacco and leather notes I get out of Tempus Fugit. It definitely tastes darker, and I agree with Derek’s description of overripe banana flavor in it.
    As I mentioned elsewhere in the thread, I keep on hand a banana rum blend with Jamaican rum, Smith & Cross, and either the Giffard or Tempus Fugit liqueurs - they’re different but both are great.

    • @makeanddrink
      @makeanddrink  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Tempus Fugit is not bad. Especially in a cocktail. It's just one of those things where side by side I thought they'd each have their own uses an while I'm sure someone can make that argument, I just like everything about Giffard better.

    Here in Brazil we have several banana cachaças, which we call “bananinha” (little banana). They are very sweet, so you can drink them without feeling too much alcohol, however, as they are cachaça-based, they contain 37-40% alcohol and get you drunk VERY, VERY quickly. They're usually just for shots, i've never seen anyone doing cocktails with it though.

    Banana justino (per your own video!) with Rum Bar Gold is the best banana liqueur I’ve had yet. I really like Banana Bunch for its own distinct, powerful, and IMO quite worthwhile use. In fact adding a splash or two of 99B to justino (ironically) corrects the balance quite ably.

      The Giffard is the best thing out there and has a clean and rich banana flavor, but I also like the Tempus Fugit with its notes of leather and tobacco. I bought the tempus a year ago because I thought the giffard can’t be good for that price point. I love the tempus but after comments here the Giffard seems better for cocktails. The Tempus pure has the flavor of baked banana with honey in Asian restaurants which I love, but I can’t notice much banana flavour in my cocktails with it
