I thoroughly enjoyed listening to a review from someone in a totally different world than myself. I live literally on the water. I live on a canal and I work on the water repairing docks etc… I hear all the time knife reviewers say to get over the steel it doesn’t really matter but it does.
I've been using a PM2 in 15v for the fast six months. It's been so impressive i sought out a shaman for the low on eBay. Similar to Cruwear in stroppability but the edge retention is something crazy like s110v or k390. I was using the PM2 as a literal machete at one point surveying land. Super fun steal for those who take care of their steel!
Thanks for the video brother. I have never had anything at all in 15v but the more I see this police 4...the more I start feeling like I need to grab up a huge spyderco.
My experience with 15V is the PM2, which I also have in Rex 45, K 390, Maxamet and most of the other steels offered. Generally speaking, wear resistance increases and toughness decreases in the order of Rex, K 390, 15V and Maxamet. If you want to understand how different steels/treats work, you have to do controlled cut tests. 15V doesn't make a great deal of sense to me for the Shaman, because its geometry is way too thick to cut well. Even the PM2 is pretty thick in OE configuration. The PM2 cuts very well thinned out to 10 thousandths BTE. Knives cut primarily on geometry. The ideal geometry for 15V with the BBB treat is much thinner than any production blade.
I haven't experienced these higher end non stainless steels. I do have a few in D2 and I do live near the ocean. Even here, I don't really have rust issues with them.
I managed to get my hands on the manix 2 and the shaman in 15v, both beautiful knives. Not too upset that I didn’t get the PM2 because that Magnacut PM2 coming later this year (supposedly) is looking mighty fine 🤤
I would like to see how 15v stands up to Maxamet, I’ve got both steels, and both are supposedly the edge retention kings. Also, Spyderco, Rex-121 when?… I need some of that, asap!
Hit up suingab for P4 micarta…he’s a Lithuanian maker and his stuff is really nice. I have his micarta on my k390 P4. If you *do* happen to hit him up, just don’t expect perfect centering. Mine doesn’t center with the action/tension I keep but to be honest, I don’t really care. It’s not reasonable to expect perfect centering on an enormous, slicing back lock. I uploaded a video called “comparing (almost) all of spyderco’s seki city back locks” on my other channel if you wanna get an eye on the p4 micarta.
All these new steels are for marketing purposes , if it is a harder so called super steel it will chip if it is a softer lower end steel it will roll . The best of both worlds is carbon steel 1095 and others they were used from Medieval period to today with good performance. Though you will have steel snobs putting down 1095 that it will rust sure if you are lazy and do not take care of your blades. GEC uses 1095 and 420 stainless steel and they are excellent. It is all in the heat treat of the steel , I am not into these new steels made with prices reaching the $400 mark on a knife look how expensive LT Wright knives and bark river and Spyderco and Benchmade are today it is crazy and people pay that amount as if it is nothing . Spyderco should offer a Shaman in 1095 and sell it for $120.00 maximum it would be a perfect knife and more reasonable Price Just my opinion buy what you want.
Nothing wrong with 1095 excellent and very tough! And there will always be a market for stuff people buy. I agree it's a marketing plot sometimes. But so is a Corvette. Gets you from A to B just like a truck, just a little faster maybe but with MUCH less cargo and fewer passengers lol! Thanks for watching my friend!
Same man. I repair sea walls and docks for a living and dive regularly. I’ve carried lc200n for years but recently started carrying magnacut and have been happy. Our steel choices are very limited!!!!
I'm an edge retention slut also! I love the shaman in 15v. I don't have enough experience yet with 15v to make an educated opinion. Maxemet is my all time favorite steel. On paper 15v should be a close second.
I’m carrying my 15v shaman as well! I ended up getting all three models of 15V from a retailer and sold the manix 2, and pm2. Should’ve kept the manix 2 in 15V as well. Great vids from a fellow edge retention slut

Just bought a manix 2 LW in CPM-M4 for $135 from blade HQ.

It's an amazing user in My opinion
I keep hearing great things about the 15v. Haven’t got my hands on one but it’s on the radar. And the k390 I hear is great too.
Great vid. Thanks for the update!

I love spyderco and I have the shaman
Love it brother subscribed a minute in haha
Did I win the freeall?
Thanks for the break down on the 15v and other steels compared
I think micarta would look sick on that shaman. Love my K390 Spyderedge Police 4. Definitely a cardboard killer!

I agree! Pm2 magnacut! I have the cruwear and it bs!
Where are you getting this release information ?
Good overview , thanks for sharing , God bless !
I want the pm3 lw in 15 v. I need a pm3 and 15 v sounds great.
just fyi the manix blade stock is thinner than the pm2

we are suppose to be getting rex 121 burnt orange eventually. I believe its going to be a sage model. That is what eric glesser said recently.
You hard use that police 4? Blade looks new no scratches or nothing.
I use it every day. My daily work carry. I just don't cut metal or baton through concrete
I'm not easy on it that's for sure lol.
Shaman is on my wish list. Great video 👍

I definitely will thanks for the hookup!
PETE IN AUSTRALIA GOT 950 ROPE CUTS, FACTORY EDGE. 17% EDGE, 2000 ROPE CUTS
I saw that!! Killer result. I'm 3 weeks in on carrying it daily and haven't even had to strop it!! I love this steel so far.
