I feel you! 💗 nothing is sadder to me than a property with no trees/plant life. My plants are family to me, they are a part of my soul.

I agree Shamus do more house garden tours. I feel you. Evidence in how therapeutic green landscape and trees are. I love hiking and have 50 fruit trees on my property and learned so much from Shamus and Jake and Jay Barringer. But I feel your sentiment. Trees and plants are truly beautiful. The most beautiful thing we got!

Definitely aesthetically pleasing to eyes to watch plants and trees grow......I grow things I wont eat just because I want to see the growing process and the fact we can make an arid environment look like an oasis

I’m growing eggplants right now and I hate the taste. I think they’re really beautiful though even the leaves are beautiful to look at. My plan is to try to cook them from a myriad of recipes and hopefully I’ll acquire a taste for them over time. 💜💜🍆🍆

@@aquaseahorselove3939 that's awesome only thing I like eggplant wise is eggplant parmesan....It was hard to keep the ants and aphids away from my eggplants when I grew them......I'm doing a similar thing with hot pepper plants I learned giving them more water makes them less spicy and the less water you give them makes them hotter

I love the word "Growing Art". That dearly applies to me. When I was a young child I loved painting portraits but now after I retired 7 years ago, I've been doing my best to plant trees and vegetables. A great motivation to wake up early to see them. To this date, I've planted a total of 38 trees both tropical and sub-tropicals as well as non tropical trees too. Also plants oriental vegies that I don't find in groceries/stores. Thanks for sharing your feelings and thoughts. Well appreciated!!!

I have potted plants so i can relate with the whole taking care of them...and seeing them healthy brings me peace also as it is validation of all my hard work. I am proud since not everyone can grow fruit trees from seed like us and the most important part, keep them healthy. And like you said about the “50 years” thing, i look at my plants and remind myself i grew that many years ago and now its kinda like family.

I REALLY wish you were near me because I just started a nonprofit that takes produce grown throughout neighborhoods, harvests it and then donate to local food pantries.
Would have loved to have your stuff within our program.

I so get it. Although since we can’t buy this stuff in grocery stores, I have no idea if I like so much. When I was little we had fig trees, nobody ate the figs, they were just an exotic novelty.

The other upsides to not eating every single fruit are 1) fertility for your compost/soil that doesn't need to leave your yard but instead can keep making the native soil more and more rich and 2) attracting wildlife that pollinate your trees, leave fertilizer etc. Every fruit you don't eat will eventually get shit out by something and returned to the soil, and in general the trees will produce more and more fruit over time as they get larger. Some permaculturists say that you should let your trees get big and tall because the birds most like to hang out at the topmost layers of canopy, consuming the fruits softened and burned by the sun. Whereas the low-hanging fruits are actually the sweetest, as they're closest to the trunk and root system from which the energy to make the fruits sweet is provided. So in this model the trees eventually get humongous and provide an abundance of fruit not just for the wildlife, but also an abundance of the most desirable fruit for the homo sapiens.

I understand deeply what you are saying. But these fruits are gifts & offerings & you may be making the trees a little sad for not accepting their offerings. I think you are probably just a typical picky eater who leaves no room for the real food. Is that what you're really saying Shamus???
