I'll never forget, I was playing Mortal Kombat online on the PS2, and the universe aligned right at the end during the "finish them" screen. I dropped my control and as it was falling and I tried to catch it I somehow managed to hit the right button combo to pull off Johnny Cage's fatality. First and only fatality I ever got in that game.

Old fighting games wouldn't even tell you what the combos were.
And the early games were before the internet was widely used, so good luck looking up the combos online.

Growing up around fighting games, I would always look at the combo lists and think “how the f$&k??!??!?” My friend knew how to do combos but I never did hence why spamming was my greatest weapon😂😂 until I was introduce to dbfz, the combos were way easier to input than any other game I’ve played. So I stuck to learning actual combos and ended up becoming 8th on my country’s leaderboard online. Bless these easy combos🙏🏽

The combo that fits this perfectly for me is one from Ryu Hayabusa in Dead or Alive 3. You could unlock stuff by performing all the combo's in training mode on a character. There were plenty of combo's that were (near) impossible, but there were a few from Ryu Hayabus that took the cake.

I remember looking at summon suffering for ivy in soul caliber 2.
Downright, up-left, right, down, downright, down-left, then two buttons.
I could never figure out how to do that.
Just a z motion (right, down, down-right) is hard for me, I end up doing quarter circle.
So of course I stick to games like Smash Bros, where inputs only have one direction and button.
Start from the bottom right then quickly go up left then do a half circle back. It’s honestly written weirder then it is to really do
Lol I literally was thinking this reminds me of Tekken/Soul Caliber and now the dude is playing Smash
From my experience there's an even easier way to do it. Add to the fact there's like up to a 50 frame delay between each input so you don't have to stress.
Down-Right, Up-Left, Up-Right, Down-Right, Down-Left+A+B. Works every time for me. The game registers the Up-Right as a Right and the Down-Right after that as both Down and then Down-Right. It's surprisngly forgiving. And it almos tfeel sintentional so you can sneak in the Summon Suffering (Or Calamity Symphony) without your oponent hearing you mash the control stick.
But for the sake of the video's humour, let's say the combo ALSO requiresd frame perfect inputs. That I hate.
EDIT: And let's not forget inputs that en dwith an up-right or up-left or up in a fighting game where your character instantly jumps the moment you press up. We all love to do a QCFU move only for our character to jump up and do nothing like a dumbass. And if you try to buffer it they'll prioritize JUMPING instead.
You just have to go forward then down and then forward dp inputs aren’t really all that difficult.

I haven't played a fighting game in a few years now and I wasn't the best at them but it's better when it's harder because it takes skill and you can appreciate the good players, and it made some fights epic when you knew you were playing someone good as they could dish out combos so you had to adapt to try and beat them if you were not.

I thoroughly believe that this is exactly what happened with current fighting games. Shit used to be complicated back in the days, like borderline insanity for some combos and specials.
But as the years progressed I started noticing that most of the main moves are the same in like street fighter for example. Also if you've ever played Injustice, the super is straight up just one button once the meter is full 🤭😆🤣
You know the worst part is when controller doesn’t register the button input. I remember the hell of trying to put in combos in Killer Instinct. Came back years later..... still never beat it
It sounds like you might just be trying to link too early. Pressing buttons too early in a combo will seem like it didn't register as the combo drops.

The craziest part of this all is that its actually possible that these movements could all be inputs in the game as to my knowledge playstation 4 controllers have gyro's in them meaning you can control things by physically moving/ flipping it
Back when the Game Cube was the big system out, I played in a Soul Calibur tournament at school one year (at least I think it was one of the Soul Calibur games). I’d never played a Game Cube before, but I really wanted to and joined in. I won 20 straight fights pressing only the X button. 🤣 Had no idea what the other buttons did, just that one, and it worked well enough. Long story short, the teacher got fed up with me spamming the X button and kicked me out of the tournament. 😆 I wasn’t even upset. I beat 20 people at a game I had never played in my life that day! I was laughing my ass off outside the room when I left.

I remember when I bought umvc3 since I had mvc3 growing up, I kept attempting to do hyper combos and combos in general and kept failing over and over again, I audibly said “HOW THE HELL CAN 5 YEAR OLD ME PULL OFF THIS YET 13 YEAR OLD ME CAN’T!!!”. Jump combos are a bit different. Its a mix of stringing together lights/heavys with your super abilities then using support moves to catch your opponent midcombo and give you a chance to land another super/ultimate. You cant just spam light/heavys or you for sure will lose to better players
