I'm actually sitting in a zoom class (college) right now. I just started laughing when I read this, and the class was talking about something kind of serious. I probably look like an ass right now, but it was worth it. Great comment.
My dad served at Ft. Campbell for 20 years, and I grew up there and in this area. It is so relieving to hear others validate the strange happenings there. Well done!
@@hoondaily270 what year, if I may ask? We used to go cliff jumping close to that area before they filled the quarry and turned it into a scuba training center. We may have crossed paths!!!
Dude if I ever heard something scream like that in the darkness I would never go back there ever again, day or night. Not unless we went in with a whole legion of soldiers armed to the teeth full auto, grenades, rocket launcers, flamethrowers, gas attacks, the whole nine yards. Miss me with going back to close the locks in a car with 2 people.
BIN THE OILPATCH LOGING LONG HAUL AND HUNTING FISHING HAVE SEEN HEARD THINGS. Lol, interesting bit of information you have shared with us there sir. Lol
I seriously can't get enough of this channel. The narration, delivery, subject matter...everything is right up my alley. My dad (who doesn't believe in anything spooky) has shared some of his "strange" stories with me when I was a child. He was in the South African Air Force in the 70's and believe me, Africa is a hotbed of black magic/ paranormal activity/ danger one can't even begin to relay.
The Illustrations are really good. The technical accuracy of the vehicles really helps to get into the story because you realize that whoever made the illustrations is familiar with the military.
Well thanks, Jon, very much appreciated. I actually use original images for the artwork, but having spent 8 years in the Marines, luckily I have some awareness of some of the less obvious details. As such, I'm something of a stickler when it comes to weapons/uniforms/patches/military jargon and technical terms/vehicles/etc. Then again, I don't know everything! Especially with respect to the older military knowledge. I sincerely appreciate feedback and comments on things I get wrong, so as not to make the same mistake twice.
Listening to this while driving around on duty as an MP in the Middle East. As soon as I heard the intro, I thought I bet he was an MP. I’ve only seen one strange thing since being out here (nothing super noteworthy), but we did have a Patrolman state that he thought he saw a shadowy figure walk through a perimeter fence. The soldier immediately rushed to the location and found nothing.Very strange. I love both of these channels, keep up the good work!
Oh, dude. Stay safe out there man. Thanks for standing watch. I know I've heard some similarly creepy stories like OP ROck in Afghanistan and possible others on MrBallen's channel and Bedtime Stories, if not others. Creepy af.
Too be fair every MP is perpetually sleep deprived. I hit a ditch from sleep exhaustion once out in the back 40 of Campbell and was fucking convinced I hit a retarded kid in the middle of nowhere at 0300 in a monsoon for some reason.
Ever heard of Djinn? A girl I dated who was Muslim would talk about these entities in the religion that were created before Allah created man. Beings made from smoke and fire. They appear as shadows or as rough apparitions of a human shape made of well smoke. They're usually drawn towards pregnant women and small children.
My name is Justin Burke; I recently found your program on TH-cam, and I have enjoyed it, especially this episode. I am a Navy veteran who served from 2010 to 2016 as an Electronics Technician third-class E-4. I was stationed on the USS Theodore Roosevelt from 2012 to 2016; for two of those years, I was temporarily assigned to the Master at Arms or as the Military Police in the other branches. We would rotate between day shift and night shift every couple of months. Now at this point, I have heard stories about the ship from buddies of strange things, such as the little girl who fell down a magazine to her death during a tiger cruise, and you can hear her laugh; I was skeptical because I couldn't find any report of it. I have two stories that happen during our patrols at night. The first story starts with two buddies, Hickey, Heard, and myself, in the forecastle or the front of the ship, where the anchors are pulled up and lowered. So Heard was into the paranormal such as ghost hunting, so he decided to do An EVP, so I'm writing in the log we checked the space on a wild cat which is used to pull the chain up or down; as I'm doing this, Hickey is on the other side, the left side, and heard is behind me heard goes pull my friend Justin's leg if anyone is here. Nothing but a few seconds later, Hickey yells what the fuck! Something pulled my leg, and not even a few seconds passed; a bolt or a screw from the right was thrown, hitting the left side wall or bulkhead. So we stopped, looked at each other, and backed out, facing the room. The other was again at night; we had two new guys from different divisions named Brown and Drazek; this will be important later. So we head to the O10 level called Pri fly, where you have people taking note of landings and departures. So again, Heard does an EVP, but this is the weird part Brown's cellphone chimes with a text message from an unknown number, so we say call it; then Drazek's phone rings turns out it was his phone, but he wasn't using it, but the phone message was personal for Drazek, I can't remember what it said, but it was meant for him. After this, we would tell other patrolmen what happened, and we would get stories of a ghost of a sailor going through a door that was there at one point, now a wall. But there are others, but they are second-hand, but they were weird.

Your story of the pizza guy reminds me of a training exercise that I had in the Army National Guard back in the very early 90s. We were told that the OPFOR was using a certain paved road in the training area and to set up an ambush on it, which we did. Someone forgot to prevent the roads access to other people not involved in the training. So, some unlucky civilian employee got on that wrong road. Luckily, she didn't drive her car into a tree when we started to opening up with blanks, smoke grenades and artillery simulators, then rushing the car for intel. It did take a while to finally calm her down when we realized that she was not part of the training exercise, but I am sure she always had a good story for parties after that.
Such stories are great memories for life... During our training period, my seniors identified a route through the jungle near our barracks, which led to the campus boundary and on the other side there was a little village with local booze available... That tough route became so popular that it was busted by haters of 🍾😅
I’m so glad that this channel isn’t a downgrade in any way from the OGs at Bedtime Stories. Like the writing, reading, and production value is still fully up to par and I love both channels.
Very kind of you to say, Cole. I have always said that Rich (BTS) took a HUGE risk, taking me on as a sister channel. I still tell him he was crazy to do so. But as such, I have tried my very best not to sully the incredible reputation he, Simon, and Mikey have built on their channel.
@@WartimeStories risk? I’m not gonna lie, many of you episodes and stories are like Mr. Ballen. You to should do a cooperation if you ever get a chance.
I was with the 3/502nd in Ft Campbell from '93 to '97. This was the same infantry battalion which suffered that horrible plane crash returning from the Sinai back in 1985. I was a buck sergeant back then and some my young soldiers living in the barracks would tell me that they would sometimes hear what sounded like a basket ball being bounced against the wall inside barracks rooms which should've been empty. They believe that the ghosts of those lost grunts returned to the one place they left, forever haunting those barracks...
Dang. Well I will have to make note of this. This Fort Campbell story was also a subscriber story. Once I free up some time, I’d love to do a stand alone podcast or something where I can combine shorter stories like this. Would you mind if I saved this story and your username? Once I figure out how to do it, I’ll put out a notification and make a form or something for people to submit their stories.
I'm currently living in Fort Campbell's barracks, and I keep getting up to answer knocks at my common area door that nobody is ever behind, and my neighbors down the hall have been dealing with the same thing.
I was there 3/503 After Desert Storm. The back 40 is creepy and really interesting! Remember the best of the best are there and the spooky people are there.
The Nightshift at Ft. Campbell....this is a wow extremely terrifying story!!! Had my heart fluttering for a bit. I was rapt with attention for your every word. Love your deep distinct voice too. I want more...more stories like this one! Thank you so much.
It's the little details that really help set the stage. Riveting, enthralling, and terrifying. Every detail worked to draw me in kicking, twitching, and jumping at shadows. Those screams have my hair on end, even in a second listen. Looking forward to part two. The pizza was also good. Thank you for all of it!
I’m a long haul truck driver listing to this at night was great but after I got up on Rt 81 and was passing through Virginia I got a little shaky pulled over at the rest area found a spot that was well lit Took it down for my 10 hour break. Ok I admit I was a little scared 😱. Went to bed 🛏
*I was stationed at Campbell at the exact same time!* I kinda thought the post as a whole was kind of creepy. The shadows of Vietnam did hang heavy on it. Everything in the Army seems shiny and new now (I was in a long time). But back then the equipment and buildings dated from Vietnam to all the way back to WW I - and thanks to years of budget cuts looked it. Really the only new things were the Battle Dress Uniforms. Chances are Robert was still carrying an M1911A1 .45 pistol. Those guns were awesome when new. But by ‘88 the newest were made in ~1965 and some in WW II. Most were so worn out they barely worked. The Army phased in M9 Beretta pistols the same year. While I heard some spooky stories, I never experienced anything supernatural there. Pizza was ordered from the field though even before cell phones. There were range towers that had land lines you could break into and order pizza on. The delivery drivers were often moonlighting soldiers or former soldiers who knew the MGRS. They could navigate out there as long as it was a coordinate near the road. Rumor had it one pizza company even had its own AN/PRC-77 radio for taking field delivery orders.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share this, Eric. In case he missed it, I've passed your comment on to the guy who wrote this story. After reading your comments on the 1911, it reminded me of a story I heard first hand from the Legends of WWII channel (now I think they've changed to Remembering WWII). An American paratrooper recounted in his interview that, armed only with his 1911, he was picked up by a tank division of German soldiers. He humorously recalled how, when being asked to surrender their weapons and handing over his .45, the german officer's eyes "bugged out" when he turned the pistol around and looked at the size of the barrel, before taking his own .22 Walther P38 out of his holster to compare the two, both in amazement and in what the American soldier believe was something of a horrifying realization of what the American's were fighting them with. The Marines always seemed to get the short end of the stick when it came to funding, even in my more recent time. Worn-out gear is something I'm quite familiar with, but probably not so much with respect to the weapons. Somehow, breaking into a range tower to use a landline seems a lot more daring, haha. The 80s must have been the peak of pizza delivery excellence, the amount of effort they put it. Thanks very much for sharing that.
Lucky for me I remembered what the guy looked like. Here's the video I was speaking about. The part about them being captured and the 1911 starts at around 16:20. th-cam.com/video/QHYbR6VwKA0/w-d-xo.html
Nice video! Yes the M1911 earned its rep in the world wars. The ones left over in ‘88 often didn’t have much rifling left. I’d hate to have to defend myself from a monster with it. The Marines definitely get the short end of the stick when it comes to gear. Their $ comes through the Navy and I’m sure the swabbies would rather spend it on anything else first. One creepy Ft. Campbell detail is that a lot of the land was seized by eminent domain in WW II. Much of it was family farms that dated to the late 1700s. Family farms that came with family graveyards. (BTW many were already abandoned during the Great Depression). So it wasn’t unusual to stumble across them during an FTX rucking through the woods. Rumor had it one of them was so haunted violent windstorms happened at night only within the graveyard’s fence line. One time allegedly scaring off an artillery battery that dared to bivouac there. I have no idea if that rumor is true. But the graveyards are.
I was in at the time when cell phones first started gaining popularity. The first iPhone came out one year before I got out. Domino's didn't have a radio but Range Control would hook it up if you asked. You could place the order over the radio on a separate channel if you bought one for them. They'd order for you and their pizza got delivered first, then they would have the LZ pointed out for the driver. Domino's drivers would take orders from anyone once they got out there, take the cash upfront, and be back with more pizza. They would clean up. A driver would make 500 in tips if they had an order to the field. More if it was a decent looking woman.
Timothy, of all the comments about that I feel like you really got me. Considering I have primarily worked alone on the channel, I started doing the bloopers thing because...well because I think they're funny, but also because I felt the need to portray myself as an actual person instead of some unseen creator. Sitting alone in a closet most of the time has its downsides lol. Very much appreciate your comment here.
Well done man! Just retired from Fort Campbell and spent many hours in the back 40 and in and around old Clarksville base which had many old ammo bunkers. Used to have to do security checks out there while on Staff Duty. Never seen anything crazy like that but always had a eerie feeling while out there. Needless to say I didn’t waste anytime completing my checks. Also we used to call East Range “East Rain” for obvious reasons. Keep it coming man.
Seen a few comments about those ammo bunkers giving folks the creeps. You are clearly not alone. And truly, there was never a dry sock on that training area!
Are you familiar with Randy's story? I call it the greatest story never told. It has everything great artwork great evidence government mischief kidnapping and murder.
My dad served at Ft Campbell with 2/17th Cav back in 1974 and one time while out in the woods for training they encountered something, they heard horrific screaming sounds and there was movement in the woods that the never could make out. Dad and 4 of his friends, all Vietnam veterans and hunters used to being in the woods. When they came in to our house the next morning they were all visibly shaken and disturbed. They speculated about bigfoot, aliens, or even possibly a panther....they never knew but it clearly scared the shit out of all if them. Also we lived on a farm off post and there was a huge creepy cave on the property. I was too young then but always wish i got to explore it more. I remember also that we were always seeing weird lights in the sky that my dad and his friends...pilots and air crews...couldnt identify and were uncomfortable discussing.
I grew up hunting the back 40 my Dad was stationed at Ft. Campbell as a kid. I have never seen or heard anything personally except once as a child but I didn't see it I herd it and I have herd of people who have. As a child I lived on post for like 2 years we lived in Gardner Hills. I used to spend all day in the woods behind the townhouses we lived in. The woods never seemed to end I'd go on hikes by myself for hours at a time and come back full of ticks and I'd have at least have a turtle, snake, frog or some kind of animal. I was like 7 or 8 years old at the time and one thing that still to this day amazed me is the amount of wildlife in those woods and the uniqueness of said wildlife. As a child I was big on ninja turtles so when I discovered the abundance of box turtles in the woods around me I was back in there every chance I got much of which was against my mother's wishes. I would find box turtles with blue dots, purple dots, red dots, orange dots, and yellow dots, and I'm not talking about just a few dots all over it's body even inside the shell. The blue dot turtle which obviously was named Leo skin looked sick it was to this day the coolest turtle I've ever seen and yes I had the entire set of box ninja turtles but one day I went off way to far in the woods and got lost and is was getting dark and my mom and half the neighborhood was looking for me but they didn't know I was in the woods but someone managed to find me and on are way out of the woods which it was pitch black we herd blood curling screams that sounded just like what was in this video. I hate to think what would've happened had that guy not found me when he did. We were both petrified I had nightmares for a little while after that that didn't stop until after we moved away from Gardner Hills. Later I asked him what that was he said he doesn't know and doesn't want to talk about it. The reason I am sharing this is because your story interests me and I am wondering do you know about what area they herd these screams? And where that cave is you mentioned.
@revolutionarysoldier8696 I tend to lean towards it being a panther, but who knows could have been a Sasquatch or something mysterious like that. I know it shook those guys up and they were all men I'd consider to be pretty rugged and badass. The area they heard it in was near the bunkers/ hangers that were out past the old Sabre airfield, but I'm not sure exactly where in that area. The cave was on or near the Barnett farm in the Woodlawn area, it wasn't far off the roadway but I can't remember any better directions than that
I appreciate the detail in this. I'm currently stationed on Campbell, and the bridges in the video are like a picture, exactly like the ones we have in the back 40.
COuldn't find much imagery from the base, unfortunately (or possibly fortunately since it's clearly hard for the wrong people to find it), but I did find a picture of the bridge! Was wondering if anyone would acknowledge that haha. Thanks! How long you been at Campbell?
The storage lots aren't that Creepy anymore it's mainly the old bunkers on the south side of base that give off the Creepy vibe now, also the training village on the farthest west corner of the training area found a lot of bones and odd trash during the my last field training in 2020 looked like a homeless encampment moved in and was helping themselves to the wildlife.
Last time I was in the back 40 near TA 37. I was bullshitting it up with my boys by a fire after doing land nav night iterations. Everyone else was sleeping except for me and 3 other Joe's. We heard a bone chilling long deep scream that sounded close and far away at the same time. I jokingly said it was a windego but deep down I really thought it was one. My boy said he though it was the the scout platoon. But they were camped up south of us on the other side of an ODA around 500meters away. And the scream came from north of us on the other side of a dirt road where no others platoon was camped up. I'm going out into the field tomorrow for 5 days, it's probably not good for mmy mental state listening to this lol
@Wartime Stories AH, I'm so sorry. Showing a friend this video, and I've been stationed at Fort Campbell for almost four years. I've spent a lot of time in the Back 40, and I can say there are still strange happenings around the area.
Having seen and been stalked the giant cats of Afghanistan(Caracal are what they're called *check spelling*) These weren't as big as Mountain Lions and not as stalky as a lynx or bobcatas. They were longer, slender and about the size of a large Labrador. We had a Drone operator radio us one night when he picked up its thermals. He told us we had a "Lion or a Leopard" stalking us about 25-40 meters to our right side. All we could see was nothing but the deadly Panjwa'i Grape fields. Arty fired some lume for us but we never saw it. The guys in the TOC got the drone feed on a big flat screen and they got to see it. Also saw some of the famous Vampire deer(Musk Deer), there's plenty of crazy sounding shit out there that people don't believe is real.
@Bill Lancaster the ANA worthless? Pshh... That's nonsense, being drunk or strung out on opioids only strengthens ones senses while patrolling. One other thing that's always bothered me, especially after a high ranking officer told me the real reason behind why they did what they did.(my bad, delete ranking). Everyone and their mother always looked down on the soldiers of the ANA for fornicating with goats. Little did people know though that the soldiers were actually recruiting them as spies and it was the ole sexual favors for Intel trade
Your armchair experts really have no idea how stealthy big cats are, or even the little cats for that matter. They keep insisting there's no way there are still mountain lions in the east, despite livestock losses that bear all the hallmarks of feline depredation (which is far different from the signs of canine kills, especially the old go to of 'wild dogs'), despite people who live on the and seeing them. Just frustrates and incenses me that people who should know better speak in absolutes like that - having learned nothing of dismissive attitudes that made animals like the okapi and the mountain gorilla and even the giant panda disregarded as nothing but myths for a very long time.
Only reason I know the term "caracal" is because of the poop coffee. I used to laugh at that. Now I have a reason to fear them, thanks. Kind of makes drinking that coffee a little more badass, now I think on it. I really need to capture all these great military short stories that are being shared here. Stuff like this shouldn't be buried in a comment section. Maybe I can do something with these. Never been to the Middle East myself, but I am very open to believing that any number of strange creatures and other things inhabit the area, based on similar accounts I've heard.
@@Carandini I am from the WV/PA line. Yes there are big cats here. Had a 69 lbs bobcat Tom taken off our property in the late 90s. Mt lions in 1950s. As this area goes back to the wild, it is logical for them to be here. Common sense and logic are on short supply these days. Peace.
I was in the Army early 80s, my MOS was 11-B Infantry I was stationed at FT Lewis , while doing night navigation training a fellow soldier and his battle buddy saw what they described as a man ape in a clearing in the moon light while following a asmuth on there compass, I remember one of them was so shook up and I knew him to be a level headed man that was not known to lie. He was scared
Oh my God !! What an absolute thrill ride !! Best story you ever made. This one had me an adrenaline rush throughout my body. This is the best bigfoot story I ever heard or seen in the last couple of years. I nearly had a heart attack when the creature ran parallel to the fence and we had a glance of his giant terrifying face.
I've been hooked on the sasquatch chronicals podcast lately. Never thought people retelling their encounters with Bigfoot could be so entertaining some being pretty believable too.
Ste you familiar with Randy's story? I call it the greatest story never told. It has everything great artwork great evidence government mischief kidnapping and murder.
One night, during my military service, i was a sentry at the fenced perimeter of the base. It was very late at night, and I was waiting my replacement. Suddenly, I heard a blood curdling scream, that shook me to my core! Fortunately, it was just a fox, but it almost scarred me to death!
BRUH i was chilling on my back porch and heard that fox scream... sounds like a woman being hurt or killed, right? like you said shook me too i was just frozen w what had to be saucer eyes it kept screaming like 10x then just stopped... took a few times happening before i thought huh maybe i outta google this and found out it was fox mating calls at night haha
@@nathanaelneidhart1513 Year after my military service, I read about ghost stories regarding the sentry posts of this particular army base. There almost 100% fake, but you never know. I saw the fox, 2-3 seconds after hearing their scream, so I am sure !
We used to rent a lot in a forest that we’d park our caravan on, was sitting on the outdoor toilet on a dark chilly Swedish evening. Had just finished taking a dump when I heard a fox scream like mad. Scared the shit outta me
This was extremely well written and delivered. I was fully engaged from beginning to end. Absolutely loved this and I'll definitely be here for part 2. Great job! EDIT - I'm going to watch this again, right now. It was _that_ good! 9:13 - that detail. It's not just the stars and meteors, it's the distant aircraft.. Set me a scene!!
Damn good one! As a KY native, I've heard many a weird tale coming out of those untouched rural areas. Too detailed to be false, too frightening to be hysteria. Part 2 can't come quick enough!
I served on fr Campbell myself, was doing some field training and had to pull roaming guard at night. My buddy and I looked up at the night sky little lights moving around, like little stars dancing around and with each other. They were moving way too fast to have been man made, and moved around in unnatural ways. There's undoubtedly something weird about that place.
These videos are very well put together, I think I found my new favorite channel. I served in Oki for a few years (2008 - 2010), and I have a few good spooky stories from my time on the island. Semper Fi brother!
First the bell witch, then the kentucky goblins, and now fort campbell. I'm glad my neck of the woods provides these two channels so much content, and this area still has many more legends and ghost stories!

The little details about the soldier, environment, and base are all narrated and depicted so well that the immersion made me feel like I was there. Thanks for the wonderful work on this episode and can’t wait to watch the sequel.
Its the details I absolutely love about these stories. Love how you even drew a M1009 CUCV Blazer for the vehicle. Own one in them myself and was happy to see that you included one. Can’t wait to watch the rest in the series!
Wow! I gotta be honest, I tend to roll my eyes at squatch stories, but I was thoroughly enthralled with this one. Your acting and the sound effects are all so amazing. Everything from the roars to the sound of walking on the gravel. The production value is simply amazing! Really loved this one, gonna send it to my Dad.
"The girl working the fenceline" got me. I hadn't thought about it like that lol. Like it wasn't a one-time thing, but a regular occurrence. There's strange, and then theres "stuff you see in the military" strange.
Loved the story at the very end. I was stationed at Schofield Barracks twice. So, at FT Carson, I was with an aviation unit. we ordered Pizza so many times, the CG signed a letter banning all pizza deliveries on the ranges. Well, that did not stop us, either a bigger tip was in order, or we would meet them at the gate to the ranges. lol
Too funny, thanks for sharing that. Can't imagine why the CG would be upset. The whole point of the military is to adapt and overcome obstacles put in your way to reach the objective.
I came across your channel yesterday, and already it’s one of my favorites! I always wondered if anyone saw unexplained things during war or otherwise. Your channel is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for creating this! The quality and content is absolutely top notch!
I really like how this one was presented, and as someone who has worked the night shifts as well, the parts about sneaking the girlfriend in and the druid running, made me laugh and sounded similar to things I've dealt with. The second part won't be uploaded fast enough for me. Thank you again for your channel and content.
That was so good. It was very realistic. I can't wait for part two. This was told to you as a true story? I just caught that at the end. I really can't wait for part two now!
It was a subscriber story, yes! I wasn’t sure how I felt about Bigfoot when I started the story but… I suppose if I ever run into one, I would not be so surprised after hearing his story. We are living in a time where UFOs are now openly confirmed, after all.

Great story! I just found your channel and it peaked my curiosity. I was stationed on Ft. Ord, California, or Planet Ord as it was called, with the 7th ID (light). I recall doing a 25 mile roadmarch with my unit. We started at night around 2100. I remember as we were stretched out, you know that 'accordion effect' of a long column of soldiers, we went by what appeared to be an old cemetery next to the road. The odd thing was there were, what appeared to be green chemlights hanging in the trees. Our entire unit saw this, and thought how odd. I had found some interesting stories about hauntings on Fort Ord but wondered about their validity. If I'm correct East Garrison on Ft Ord was almost completely abandoned except for some office buildings and old style WW2 barracks that were dilapidated. Keep up the great stories! Cheers!😃
I'm so glad I gave this channel a chance. I love Bedtime Stories but for some weird reason I thought this channel was just war stories without any paranormal phenomenon. I'm glad I was wrong. Awesome content!!
I lowkey like some bloopers within the reading! Let’s Read sometimes leaves some of his trip ups in his readings, just shows us how much effort it really takes reading for so long!
Sounds like a lost angry Dependa. Most large Army bases have thoese areas that are creepy as hell at night. Really good story bro, you are doing one hell of a good job.
I shouldn't laugh. I need to be respectful and diplomatic as the creator, here. I'm not laughing, but let's just say there is a Marine somewhere who thinks this comment is hilarious. Thanks bud
*As much as a story like this stretches the bounds of my own experience, after giving it some thought, I have to acknowledge that the world is a very big place, and despite my travels overseas, I have seen so very little of both the world and the things that inhabit it.* Also, don't forget about the pumpkin contest if you want to win some channel merch.
Agreed. Can you imagine that huge percentage of Earth is actually left undiscovered, let alone unobserved... one might wonder what's lurking on the jungles and forests, underground labyrinths, and even the lakes, rivers, seas, and oceans.
New subscriber. Here's some feedback: You totally spoiled an awesome, polished production by breaking the fourth wall at the end, and ad libbing all that stuff about the pizza. That ridiculous story took me right out of the experience. Just keep it polished. Never give people a peek behind the curtain. Start another channel for those kinds of stories if you want, but this was a great production that took me right into it. Don't spoil all that work. (Thanks for reading.)
@@WartimeStories Well, this completely blew me out of the water. I’ve never had this kind of response to a comment, before. I can the tell criticism was very important to you. Thank you for the invitation to reply. I don’t have the ability to make a video as you did, so I’ll do my best to reply here. ‘Might take a minute or two to get through this, though. I think most people can enjoy a good blooper reel. It’s often fun to see your favourite actors break character, and do something completely unexpected and out of the norm from what you are accustomed to seeing them do. Bloopers have become really a part of contemporary culture. Go back even 30 years, and you’d be hard pressed to find bloopers at the end of films. They existed, of course, but the “blooper reel” wasn’t as prolific then as it is now. Unfortunately, this got completely ruined for me some years ago after watching a splendid film about WWI. From this I came to appreciate the art of “presentation”, and how much goes into it. And also, how much is left out of it. The film was entitled, “Joyeux Noel”, which is French for “Merry Christmas”. It’s the truly remarkable story of the first Christmas truce in the trenches in 1914 shared by British, French, and German troops. Former enemies tentatively emerged from their respective trenches and spent Christmas day together exchanging what gifts they could muster, playing soccer, and sharing good cheer. They swore as men to make Christmas peace, and lay down their arms, and not fire on each other again. The film was moving, and depicted the decency of men toward one another, amid the horror of war. The character of the British officer was a kind, sympathetic and gentle soul. He chose to save life, rather than take it. He was a decent man to whom you would gladly give your loyalty. He was one of the most magnificent characters written for a film of this type, and it made the viewer value him, and adore his character, and pray for his safety. And then in the dvd extras I saw the blooper reel, only to realize that the actor playing this character was a complete asshat. And that realization felt like a brick thrown through a plate glass window. He deliberately screwed up takes only to make it to the blooper reel. In the middle of a vital scene, he’d turn his cap on sideways, cross his eyes, shake his head, and stick out his tongue. The director got short with him, and started to lose his temper. His character was a mature gentleman, a product of English upper class, but this actor was just an immature kid, fresh out of whatever few acting gigs he’d had to that point. I’ve never watched the film again, because I just can’t unsee that actor breaking character, breaking tone, upsetting the other actors on set, and upsetting the director just for the sake of a “blooper”. Bloopers have their place. As an extra to this very moving, historical, Christmas war drama was not it.
Your finished product of “Fort Campbell” was fantastic. It was engrossing, it drew me in, and yes, it DID feel like a big production. It DID feel as though you were working with a big team. You did a magnificent job. Your skills as a storyteller are polished and tight. If you have kids now, or should you ever, they will never forget Dad’s scary stories, I promise you. You’ll traumatize them for the rest of their lives, and they’ll love you for it. There are other channels that only present the finished product, and then make a separate “blooper” video for that production. That way, people choose to watch if they wish, for probably this very reason; they don’t have to break the illusion, or compromise the performance by a shift in tone from imaginary to real. People watch the video, and walk away with one impression. Perhaps the silliest example is a channel called, “Epic Rap Battles of History”. This channel is a lot of fun, but they don’t show their behind-the-scenes stuff in the same video as the finished production. Those boys work hard, they put a LOT of effort and research into what they do, and it shows. The silly, “human” part of it comes in their separate behind-the-scenes releases. That’s a suggestion you can consider. Tonight, I watched one of the most engrossing stories I’ve seen in a while. I’ve DONE night security patrols in my time in service. I was right in there with those characters. As a young guy at the time, I’ve been more than a little unnerved at walking around in the dark with my flashlight, rattling locks and fences, always looking over a shoulder to see if anyone, or anything, was approaching from behind. I so totally connected with this video that I don’t think I moved for the entirety of the viewing. Then… to have someone turn on all the lights, draw back the curtains, and tell a story about a pizza? Like a brick through a plate glass window. You have a background in theatre. You of all people would know this: Atmosphere. Theatrics. Presentation. You wouldn’t perform a play with the curtain open, would you? So, if you ask for a suggestion from me, it would be to produce a separate blooper video with stories of behind-the-scenes struggles, and personal adventures, and even… ordering pizza while on a training exercise. Through this you can make a human connection with your audience at a moment that wouldn’t have to piggy-back on a production of a very different tone. Send them off unnerved and chilled. Send them off appreciative of a great performance. Then at a time of your choosing, release the behind-the-scenes feature. That moment could be entirely your own. You have a great thing going here. I’ll stay subscribed, because I respect how you do business. I really appreciate the response video, and I’ll respect whatever decision you make. Thank you, again. Cheers, and best of luck. Happy Hallwe’en!
Catching up on the vids I've missed on this channel. I absolutely loved this! First Bigfoot story I've ever heard that's actually downright frightening! So good.
Lol. You meant "Sterling," right? As in Rod Sterling, the "Twilight Zone" guy? Damn autocorrect. But you're right, the opening of this video totally sounded like a Rod Sterling intro to a "TZ" episode.
Rod Serling, my phone sucks and I'm going to autocorrect with a hammer. . He is currently residing with L Ron Hubbard, Bruce Lee, and Elvis on the mother ship with Zenu.
The military feels like such a small world hearing stories like this. My roommate was a Marine who was forced into the Navy over an incident that occurred in the late 90s from what I remember.
Doesn't it, though? I've had that same impression, seeing some of the comments here and listening to other stories. As much as I didn't want to disparage the armed forces with regard to how this man was treating for trying to report unusual things, I too have experienced poor leadership, snap judgements, and unnecessary NJPs and court-martials in my time.
I was stationed at Campbell from 95-99 with Bco 3/187 Iron Rakkasan and when we did night land navigation, we heard some creepy sounds out there in the bush. Fun and exciting times!
Well if it's any consolation to him I would much prefer to listen to him than myself lol. BUt thank you, Jeff! Very big compliment. Rich is an absolute master of storytelling.
Most assuredly I shall. There may be an occasional mainstream story (like Roy Benavidez's) that I have an impulse to do differently than what I've seen done. But these stranger than fiction stories are my personal preference.
Thanks Nathan, it’s gotten mixed reviews but I appreciate you saying so Maybe that’s everyone, but I certainly look back on my career as a culmination of funny or strange stories. You tend to forget the rest of it
Haha well, when I get around to finding and making videos into all of them, I'll look into that. I am hoping to inspire more subscriber story submissions like this one, at that.
Thank you! I mean I assume a lot more folks saw it and just consider it a given that I would do something like that. But I'm always sneaking little easter eggs in to the videos (when appropriate) and few if any people ever mention them in the comments. Thanks, Lisa. A true observer.
Thanks, Tom. I probably made a few mistakes, but i got a lot of grief for some of my previous videos and mispronunciations. Lol, so I felt obliged to pat myself on the back for once. At the same time, I'm just waiting for the one comment to point out what I did wrong in this video
@@WartimeStories Heh, I would'nt worry about it too much, there's always somebody who will nit pick about something, however, it's also good to see that you care about it so much, it means that what you're doing is really important to you, and that means that the passion you put into your work, will get noticed by the listeners and that will translate into a big following, which I'm certain, you will achieve.
I worked at ft Campbell in 2001. Besides being huge, there are parts of it that are truly what most of us would call wilderness. We built a helicopter runway out in the middle of the wilderness! Never went out that at night! Kinda spooky!
I don't think I could have written the story to the level of firsthand experience that it was given to me with. Thanks Mike, good to know Robert isn't the only one getting creeped out by the darker reaches of the base. I've been all over Camp Pendleton, both day and night--another massive base here in CA. All desert, mostly. Can't say I've ever felt that creeped out. Must be the woods that makes Campbell that way, among other things.
@@JN1-506 I was stationed there twice in the the 2000s. One 4th of July we lit up the night sky while out there with a shit ton of firecrackers, Roman candles, bottle rockets and a few finales. We were out where we would always do land nav. In the cornfields somewhere. Never heard of these stories of Fort Campbell until now.
Luke, thank you for producing this podcast. I am working my way through your content. I have read about Roy Benavidez, but your podcast brought him to life. I only missed this war by chance. I was not chosen in the draft lottery. Thanks again for doing all the hard work by yourself, to present these stories to us.
Love your content, I know you want to stand out from the crowd, but I recommend you keep the original opening to your stories. It sets the mood and lets people know what to expect from this channel. Plus the intro music is just right for these war stories. Just switch the pictures up every few months to keep it fresh and interesting. I say this because a year or two ago, Bedtime Stories got some feedback about their intros being boring or waste of time. A lot of us fans of their channel pointed out it was what set them apart from other YT channels and really set the mood for their stories. In all honesty, this new Fog of War intro just felt too much like a ripeoff of the Twilight Zone intro. Keep doing what you are doing and the fans will come in time.
Thanks Rick. I should clarify that the intro was intentionally meant to copy the Twilight Zone intro, hence the Rod Sterling impression and the same title font lol. I had hoped that would be obvious. Sorry about the confusion there. Fog of War is something of a mini series I’m starting within the larger channel. I won’t be abandoning the original intro, but this new intro theme was just my way of introducing and incorporating these more bizarre (whether true or fictional) stories amidst the other more traditional war stories, while tipping my hat to a favorite classic TV show of mine that also told such bizarre and imaginative stories. TZ is long overdue due for a reboot. The main consideration here being that these are stories that clearly clash with the more definitely true stories, and I want I don’t want to do is to present an atmosphere of disrespect towards those stories (such as Roy’s or the Holocaust ones) by mixing in these bizarre encounters, or intentionally fictional stories like The Kitsune. Unlike yourself, some folks unfortunately will get the impression that the channel intentionally blurs the line between fiction and reality. I’ve had a few people posting such comments as “the Holocaust is a hoax”. I would hate to encourage that type of attitude or inadvertently demonstrate any approval of it. “How can we believe anything this channel says when they tell these fake stories about Bigfoot” is what I am hoping to avoid, is my point. I don’t expect everyone to believe the unusual stories, but I certainly don’t want people to disbelieve the true ones. In any case, you can imagine there are a wide variety of expectations from the audience that I am becoming more perceptive to and trying to work with. Thank you, as always, for taking the time to offer some sincere and genuine feedback. It helps me very much.
@@WartimeStories I don't think these stories are at all out of place in a channel about war and military service. There are a lot of stories out there from military personnel who've seen/experienced things they couldn't explain. Some I've even heard first hand. Seems to go with the territory. Love your channel, looking forward to part 2!
Your outro reminds me of my time in the navy stationed in Bahrain. We'd order food while out in the patrol boat and some poor delivery guy would be out on an abandoned pier, sometimes at night in the pitch black, when a heavily armed boat would pull up, hand him his money and we got our food. They just acted like it was par for the course. They must have had some good stories.
Thanks man! I suppose it's the slow production times, haha. I'm working on that. Only so much I can do by myself in the interim. Back around 1914, when the first hand-drawn cartoons were being created, it took them about a year to do all of the thousands of individual drawings and transfer them onto film to make a 6-minute cartoon. Funnily enough, the audience said "we want more!" and demanded weekly cartoons, to which the animators threw their hands up in the air. Had to laugh when I read about that. Gotta start somewhere!
@@WartimeStories All the great channels take their time. People don't like waiting but I'm pretty sure they'd hate it more if the quality dropped. Thanks so much for making such great videos and I hope your channel continues to grow because you truly deserve it.
@@spyderguy4567 you are very kind to say so. Had to laugh at the decreasing quality part. I had thought that might be true. Just never heard anyone say it. Very well done. In my time at Ft Polk esp., I could imagine something like this happening. We still used those same OD green SUVs also. Unfortunately at all my duty stations at Bliss, Huachuca, and Polk along with two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, and now four years in Border Patrol, I’ve never had experiences like these. I wish I would but maybe my longing to see something strange is keeping me from it. Idk, but anyways, I love these kinds of stories. What an awesome start to Halloween.
Thanks bud. The guy who submitted these stories, I had to offer him my condolences. It’s not as if his life was plagued by strange encounters, but he had handful, enough for me to consider him a paranormal magnet. As much as I’d also love to have a few strange stories, I dare say I might regret it, depending on what exactly I ran into. And then there’s the part about having no one believe me lol
I've had three weird incidents in my life. Two were special, uplifting in different ways. I'm a writer, but when I was first starting out, all I got were rejection letters back for anything I sent out. So I pretty much demanded a sign from God if I should pursue this thing or just give up. I set a specific date: November 15th, 1991. If something didn't happen by then, I was done. Well, the 15th comes and goes - nothing. I figure that's that. Then four days later I get a letter in the mail: I just made my first sale! The date on the letter from the publisher was November 15th. I also didn't sell another article or story for eight years: however as I write this, I have 33 published novels under my name. Incident #2 was the night I was coming home for work really late (I bike everywhere) and this enormous owl swooped right over my head and landed on a signpost. It just sat there and looked at me. I've seen owls lots of times, but the size of this one and the way it acted was - well, unique enough to make an impression. The next day I get the news that my grandmother had died. If you know American Indian traditions about owls, you'll see why that entire thing was just too weird for me to handwave away. The third thing that happened to me is the sort that you don't want to experience. Even recounting it now, all these decades later sends a cold feeling through my chest. My family had just moved from New York to California, so I had to be four years old. We stayed with my aunt at her place. Well, the first night there, as I'm trying to fall asleep in my cousin's room, I look into the hallway (he insisted on sleeping with the door open). Out in that hallway, gradually taking shape, was this figure. Just a black shadow darker than the darkness around it, and with two glowing eyes - what people now describe as a 'shadow person' though I didn't have that kind of context about this thing for 30 years. More than what it looked like though was the feeling it provoked - complete and absolute malevolence. This thing started to come closer and closer and at some point I just screamed, waking the whole house. It vanished as soon as the lights went on. Same thing happened the second night - after that they let me sleep downstairs. To this day my parents don't believe me, but 'childhood imagination' is never vivid enough to still haunt you 45 years later.

Listening to this while driving around on duty as an MP in the Middle East. As soon as I heard the intro, I thought I bet he was an MP. The soldier immediately rushed to the location and found nothing.Very strange. I love both of these channels, keep up the good work!

@@WartimeStories I was only briefly in the British Army, but I really enjoy these stories
@Cade Cannon I live in these regions. Merely djinns is all I can confirm. And not the wish granting types.
This is so incredibly well done. The way you build an atmospheric feeling about the back40 is brilliant too.I could really picture it in my head.
back40, yep your mil

@@WartimeStories I stand corrected. You are the sister channel of Bedtime Stories. Deleted my previous comment.
Very sorry.

It's pretty creepy
I was there 3/503 After Desert Storm. The back 40 is creepy and really interesting! Remember the best of the best are there and the spooky people are there.
Thrilling! Thanks for the story.

I could say much the same for your delightful comment. Very detailed and very much appreciated! Thank _you_ Aubry.

@@cruss4612 Decent looking women were kinda hard to find around Fort Campbell in the 80s. Maybe it was better in the 2000s? I hope so.
I really like how you add personal stories and thoughts during the credits. It makes you more connecting. You all do a great job!
Same here, saw some strange stuff out there while doing staff duty rotations.
The cave was on or near the Barnett farm in the Woodlawn area, it wasn't far off the roadway but I can't remember any better directions than that
Boy having this video drop when I live 2 minutes outside the fort isn't creepy at all...and just after dark no less
I'm jealous
I'm grateful instead.
Now curious, you ever had any sort of unexplained experience near the fort?
Some of the people I install security for are a bit...odd
How do you think I feel living ON it?!
@@EmperorPrinc3 the two likely candidates for scream are sasquatch or dogman
Also the Kandahar giant story makes me wonder what’s hidden far from home..
Peace.

Thank you Luke, the work you are doing is amazing!

Thanks Chad, shouldn’t be too long to get Part 2 out

My wife loves that show. For some reason, I can't get into it (love anime tho). But those things do freak me out.

I really can’t wait to hear more about these incredible memories. Honestly it is a real relief that this amazing channel exists and that all of these memories can be retold. Seriously thank you. And to anyone who has stepped up to relive this memories you have my deepest respect and thanks. 🙏🙏🙏🙏 you are still saving People.

Awesome, awesome, awesome story telling!! I dont know that it couldve been done better. I subscribed as soon as i listened to this. I have now listened to it many times and have turned several others onto it also. We all agree that its some top notch story telling. A+!!!
Some of the best stories and narrations on mysteries I've heard in a long time. Keep up the excellent work. Makes me want to share some of my experiences growing up in northeast asia. Thanks for sharing!
Cheers!😃
I worked at Ft Ord 10 years, it's got it creepy stories.
Ah, man.. I can't wait for part 2 !! Perfect delivery, love the animations, love this channel

I so enjoyed the story! Expertly paced and the accent of the orator was an added delight. I am thirsty for more!
I'm so glad I gave this channel a chance. I love Bedtime Stories but for some weird reason I thought this channel was just war stories without any paranormal phenomenon. I'm glad I was wrong. Awesome content!!
Great job as always Luke! I felt like I was with them in the backseat by how good the story telling was, can’t wait for part 2!
Thanks Matt, always good to see you back in the comments. Should have Part 2 (and a third episode) out quicker than normal.

Tons of stories out of Fort Lewis, Washington.
I just found this genre of stories and I gotta say I love the feeling of finding a great new channel
*As much as a story like this stretches the bounds of my own experience, after giving it some thought, I have to acknowledge that the world is a very big place, and despite my travels overseas, I have seen so very little of both the world and the things that inhabit it.*
Also, don't forget about the pumpkin contest if you want to win some channel merch.

@@WartimeStories Your stories and bloopers are fun, keep going.
Nice Wednesday morning surprise. Thanks, Luke.

The work this channel puts out is top notch.
And you should see the comment sections! Even better Hah, thanks Dustin. Appreciate that.

The back 40 is 100% wilderness once you pass Live Fire Base
@@JN1-506 I was stationed there twice in the the 2000s. One 4th of July we lit up the night sky while out there with a shit ton of firecrackers, Roman candles, bottle rockets and a few finales.
I’m so happy you dropped this intro! Your current intro is bold, which stands out
Love your content, I know you want to stand out from the crowd, but I recommend you keep the original opening to your stories.
Haha good story, thanks. Always nice to hear that the military was very much a similar experience, no matter what the occupation was
Man, your videos are so high quality. Surprising how you don't at least have 500k subs by now.
Lucky for me I’m a perfectionist who over analyzes everything and obsessed over things like that.

I've seen more than enough as a civilian to not doubt your story. And I have more than enough respect for veterans to know that you know what you are seeing. Thank you.
