Love your videos... and your gardens! FYI Fennel should be kept at least 5 feet AWAY from other veggies, annuals, and herbs.. Fennel is Allelopathic which means it releases toxic chemicals from their roots, leaf tissue and seeds which stunt the growth of most other plants especially members of the nightshade family (tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant). Fennel roots also secrete chemicals that inhibit seed germination of most other plants including beans and peas. I keep Fennel and Dill in their own patch away from main veggies and herbs.
I think it is a brilliant idea to cover the strawberries. I lost all the strawberries in my raised beds last year to squirrels and chipmunks. They ate through the plastic mesh I used. And the birds got those in my Greenstalk planter. One question i have is how will you be picking your strawberries. Will you have to remove the mesh each time?
The way I attached the mesh I can easily grab them from the side where the mesh overlaps or from the top where I made the know, there is plenty of mesh on top, I am sure it will be a bit of trial and error but maybe it will be a good clip to show in a future video. I took my morning walk today and I noticed some birds trying to fly into it but it was impossible for them... I felt a sense of accomplishment then lol
Everything looks so healthy, and I love your garden esthetic. I like everything to look nice, even my veggies, it feeds the eyes too Hopefully planting this weekend.
With all that you grow I was surprised you bought tomato plants, but then you said some failed 😣. That happens. The bird netting works great and I don’t like working with it. It can be frustrating as it catches on everything-Hint-do not wear buttons or anything that will get tangled in it 😂. Also do check for birds and snakes that could get tangled in it. I haven’t had a bird yet, but we had a snake get caught-not poisonous thankfully. Nice overcast day to get out and finish sowing and planting. Also tweaking irrigation and I have an end section that has a few clogged emitters so I will try using air compressor to see if that unclogs the line. Otherwise I love my irrigation!! I need to be mindful about where it is as we had a few repairs from last year’s harvest😂.
I just planted strawberries in my Greenstalk and I want to cover them. Will you link the netting you purchased from Amazon please? Thank you! Great video!
Suggestion on the plant markers. I have the same ones from Green Stalk. Rather than write directly on them, I use my label maker (black label, white print) and add to the marker. This method allows for reuse and the labels will not fade.
I did the lean system for my tomatoes last year and it worked great even though we had so much rain my tomatoes were just ok. I made a video of it. I don't know if you are going to use the little plastic clamps that hold the tomato to the cord but I highly recommend them. They pinch the cord and hold in place then wrap around the stem of the tomato keeping them in place. If you just wrap the cord around the tomatoes it can damage that stem especially if its windy. Just my two cents:). Your garden looks amazing! Its still pretty cold here 50's and 60's. so different from last year we were in the 80's. Love the video Roxana!
I have been watching videos of how others are doing this for a while now, I appreciate your input. What do you mean with your tomatoes were just OK? Will you do that method again this year?
@@SoilandMargaritas Yes i will definitely do it again this year! My tomatoes just weren't great last year. We got too much rain and the tomatoes didn't have that really good tomato taste and the fruit split a lot. I attributed it all to the massive amounts of rain we got.
An idea for future netting- this is my second year using mosquito bed netting. It works great, is durable, soft, and pretty inexpensive. Order in twin, fulll, queen or king, etc. lol
I’ve planted my Roma tomatoes in my GreenStalk already. But I’ve just learned that determinant tomatoes give their fruit all at once and are done. Do you think it makes sense to start a succession batch of Roma tomato plants? I’ve got space in the garden
Lady! I didn't dig up any pf my Dahlia tubers and they ALL came back (maybe I am a zone 7?) and one is about to bloom. I mean, I mulched them, but to the extent I mulch everything. But this rain needs to stop so I can finish planting my tomatoes.Maybe I can sneak in a few more!?
I'm having the same struggle with my strawberries this year. The birds and the squirrels are taking even the unripened ones. I have netting. I just have to get out there and do it.
@@SoilandMargaritas thanks for responding. Was that bundle of mesh enough to cover one greenstalk or was there some left over? Trying Greensralks for the first time and I have deer issues.
@@djackson2243 Ahh.. So the mesh is 13x33, the width (13) covers top to bottom PLENTY, and its just a matter of how much space you give around the greenstalk, I probably used 10'-ish, I would say you have plenty for 3 of them.
Love your video Roxana
Your cure for the birds getting all your strawberries is BRILLIANT! Thanks for sharing!!! ❤❤❤

I'm worried that birds might get tangled in the mesh.
So far so good. That’s my worry too but we will figure it out.
Hi Roxanna, I used the same netting for my strawberries and it is keeping the birds and rabbits out of my strawberries! I bought it from Lowe’s.
Woo Hoo! Thank you!🍓🍓🍓
Awesome idea to protect your Strawberries!! What is the name of the netting at Lowes or Amazon? TiA
@@GardenofPsalms bird netting. It’s along the wall in a card board box at my Lowe’s. Item # 510603 by Sta Green $9.98 a bag

Great idea, I "think" they are not supposed to fade, I want to test them and see.
Nicely cover, strawberry tower looks amazing!

I would! I have a couple here that are determinate, only 2 and I’m planning to add seeds for green beans once they are done fruiting for replacement.
@@SoilandMargaritas awesome! I’m gonna go for it 😂. Love the strawberries 🍓
Thanks Roxana! I am curious how the mesh will work for the strawberries. Looks like a great plan!
We will find out soon.
Thanks for showing how you cover your Greenstalk to keep the birds out.
Always enjoy your videos. Love to See you pack your tomato beds with herbs and flowers

OMGooosshhhh! That is lovely! You bet I would be adding extra mulch to mine if I knew there was a possibility of them coming back.
I just put a bird net on my strawberries today too!
Good luck!
this year im trying putting an owl garden statue to try to keep the birds away and bees able to pollinate! fingers crossed :)
