That is a very big renovation!!! I bet ya it’s going to be the new thing now: renovating old caravans, and you guys are the first TH-camrs doing this! Such a great idea!

The swirling technique was taught at TAFE in roof plumbing back in the early 90's nothing has changed.. only way to get a good seal. Smooth finish on internal surfaces for looks and it isn't exposed to the elements like exterior is.

Hi guys. Regarding shower damage. We had a similiar issue. I think you need to remove the plugand washer ( floor waste) From experiance we had a similiar shower setup. The shower is virtually a box sat on the floor. They drill through the false shower floor and van floor with a hole saw and install a 40mm plug and washer with a bit of silicon around it. The hole has no water proof coating. You may find the false floor shower has also rotted out with water being absorbed around the door from wet false floor.
The good news is that the false floor usually has the vinyl flooring between it and the structural floor ply.

Hey mate, funnily enough I used to build caravans when I was 21 too 😂
Once you get all the walls refurbished it'd be a shame to sika the headboard on and damage the walls like what happened when you removed it. What we used to do was use Velcro strips around the perimeter of the headboard, stick that onto the wall and then staple the Velcro onto the wall and headboard that way if you need to remove the upholstery for what ever reason, you can do so without doing any damage. The same was done with the cushions on the chairs. There's obviously no right or wrong way, I just thought I'd let you know how we used to do it and it's good to have options
I look forward to seeing the end result, so far you guys are doing a good job. Very thorough restoration👍

      Thanks mate!
That’s a great way to do it but for us we aren’t re-lining the walls so the damage is already done unfortunately!

Great video and great problem solving innovation excellent work , really good to see the other side of acquiring an off grid solution for everyday Aussie people who would like to be travelling . If you'r looking these vans now in 2023 they are as rare as hens teeth now , very difficult to find one at a reasonable price . People have woken up, you don't need to buy tricked up lotus 170k -180 K trooper . You can buy all the bits yourself the trooper has, build it your self and even make it better . You can build a better power specked rig so you can be running aircon and all day and night and your your home kitchen mod cons. It essentially a box on wheels and all the internal bit can be refitted rebuilt to 2023 tech easy . Im thinking who the hell is spending 160-180 K on just on the Van rigs like the Trooper ? then your car then your 4x4 that can tow it plus 1 $ per Ks rule . This now potentially is a 400K 500k spend on a depreciating asset over 12 months . In my view its dumb use of money unless you'r an influencer and are not paying for it and nothing wrong wth that . With the flashy trooper and similar, are they actually marketed for the influx of Americans and Europeans that are travelling everywhere in Aus now ? our dollars are an all time Low of 65cents us and because the 170K is new normal price for tricked trooper type vans its cheap for them ? . The US Dollars and Euros are worth almost double our Aussie $$ . Is this why seeing many brands even made in China brands targeting the price points of 100K -160K -180K with lots of questionable Made in Australia stickers and Aussie style logos and lots of Kangaroos stickers plastered all over these 100K plus vans because they are marketed not for Aussies but overseas people coming here to tour around ?. The latest solar eclipse at the very remote WA Exmouth just today reported on every news Chanel showed thousands of people watching. Every person that was interviewed on news there were mostly on holidays from USA and Europe hardly any Australians at the remote viewing spot . Is this what the market has become the follow the money , catering for foreign money thus the eye watering prices for tricked up vans like the Troopers ?

We have used a 2 pack epoxy paint for the A frame timber of the external peak of our house which is coastal. Used to paint oil rigs. Can do most every colour tint. Jotun paints. Not cheap but may be an option to paint around the shower door area, hot water/fridge cavity. Can buy in 5L tins. We found the household exterior paints just didnt stand up to the bitter coastal wet weather. Xan be thinned down to spray paint. Brushing is thicker and slightly tacky than normal paint. But once you do the 1st paint coat. The gloss semi gloss goes on much easier.
