I'm soooo inspired by the costume design in Dune. Especially lady Jessica's style on Caladan and the various Bene Gesserit costuming. So regal and beautiful, it makes me want to do a sewing project again and get into dyed silks
I've always had a real passion for post-apocalyptic fashion and Rick Owens, urgh, love it. But, I've always struggled making it look authentic being 5'2" and having curves; imo, the dystopian look works best on waif-like physiques, so I do struggle to make it work on myself. I love the idea of Dieselpunk, but it very quickly becomes what I feel is quite tacky/cheap looking when you start hot-glueing things onto corsets and stuff. I find it a bit too costumey/cosplay most of the time which isn't my style. Let's just say I'm still working on how to incorporate the dystopian look into a 1950s silhouette lol. Great video, as always x
The 1930s and 40s have some amazing silhouettes for curves too - maybe something to look into. Atompunk would be 50s if you want a search term to start off with.
i personally do not have a dark aesthetic.. i gravitate to beachy /supermodel type style … but my husband!! he has alwaysss had a dark aesthetic which i’ve always admired. i am getting inspired with these videos to incorporate these looks fr myself.
apocalyptic is the aesthetic I've loved but could never find a label for! and I'm a crocheter/knitter so I can finally look for some pieces I can replicate, my wardrobe is thanking you
Of course! I dont think its talked about enough but if you want more inspiration you look at my Pinterest boards "Futuristic" "Solarpunk" and alot of my "Dark Knitwear" isnt technically this but a lot it is similar!
I hadn’t heard of Decopunk but the word just drew my attention. So after some quick research I think for Decopunk inspo specifically, Disney Atlantis animated movie is perfect! It’s the right time period and everything being set in 1920 (iirc) and even the animation style has the sharp and clean lines of art deco.
Great video, thank you so much. I was very attracted to Dune costumes, colors and photography. Especially those priestesses from Bene Gesserit, veils coverig their tatooed faces, pearls, ranges of golden chains around their hips. And Timothée Chalamet just as he is. ❤
Great video! Never realised that some of Miyazaki's work is solarpunk. For those looking to buy some clothes, H&M's soon to be released capsule collection with Rok Hwang looks very much at home with some of the aesthetics we saw in this video!
I went to Morocco recently and it got me reviving my love of Medieval aesthetics which then led me down a rabbit hole of falling in love with Medieval Futurism which is basically the same as Avant Apocalypse. Finding videos on these styles is tough. So glad I caught this one.
post-apocalyptic fan here .. I tend to gravitate towards streamlined monochrome cyber looks .. but then I always feel too "pointy" and feel the need to add a cozy chunky knit or flowy shawl to get back to my natural essence .. I had no idea avant apocalypse existed and I am so very gratefull that you brought it up here! it is just perfect! .. dieselpunk is my new fave aesthetic to look at but probably only admire :D
I actually just bought a few pieces from Taro's Wish which is a secondhand store today, I think she coined the term 'Romantic Wasteland' and I am ALL for that!
Dieselpunk... yes please. I find that 1930s/40s styles are way easier to do. Loose waves, red lips with stripes and leather. But "lazy apocalyptic" has a special place too lol. I still have my diy wasteland weekend pants and get compliments whenever i wear them :) Throw some pirate and armor in the mix and I'm happy 😊 Good video 🖤
I recently discovered that my style suits more into the category avant garde and now you made this video!!! I think Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake and Ann Demeulemeester works can be put into one of these categories
Hello again, Silky! So sorry that I've been absent from some of your uploads. Alas, I've been super busy the last few weeks. Life is what it is when ya get ultra busy. Once again you've made some _VERY_ good, well made & interesting fashion collages. With well spoken and nicely shown off pics. I also appreciate with how you allow them to be on screen longer & to be viewed without rushing or adding in too loud music into the final mix. Compared to other fashion & sub culture TH-camrs, you provide a lot of very good content.👍 I also appreciate a text based shout out of Dark City (1998). Alex Proyas two 'big' titles of The Crow (1994) & Dark City are such unique films. It's a shame that his career never got truly bigger past cult status.🤔I always loved how his films looked & were scored.🖤🕸🦇
Yes I’m excited about this one! I was actually going to ask if you could make a dark space-sci-fi style guide and this is pretty close. One of my favorite aesthetics.
I love your videos. I've noticed that a lot of the things I've saved to my Pinterest for knitting inspiration are Avant Apocalypse. I did not know about this style. I also did not know about decopunk, but I like Artdeco, so It is a match.
I like the apocalyptic style for practicality. It can be really good for all day outdoor music festivals- more comfortable and practical in the hot outdoors than a victorian ballgown or latex, etc.. It can incorporate cargo pockets and other military details which are very practical. Make your own blend of Utilitarian/industrial/sci fi. I recently saw Gary Numan in concert (opening for Ministry) and his band has really striking stage looks with a post apocalyptic flavor. Including skirts on the male guitar and bass players that I want to DIY. (some videos from the concert on mychannel)
Also this is the easiest style to DIY because it's supposed to look broken, distressed, homemade, patched together out of scavenged materials. You want exposed seams, frayed edges, etc.
@@silkymochi coming back to this now that I’ve had a chance to watch the video: I loved it! More than that, you’ve given me so much inspiration, my mind is a buzz with ideas! Don’t be surprised if you find me all over the comments sharing my embarrassing enthusiasm lol
I feel like I just learned so much 🥰 my personal style has been evolving so I was excited to see if there were any new elements I could add. Suckerpunch is also one of my favorite movies and I didn't know that style was called diesel-punk. So I'm excited for the deep dive I'm about to do on it ❤
I'm definitely more inspired by witchy / vampire / haunted doll aesthetics, but I also like steampunk a lot :) All in all I love watching your videos regardless of the aesthetic as each one has something interesting to offer 🖤
I‘d have to say 1960s space age, solarpunk, avant apocalypse call to me. Not so much Y2K because I lived through that.😅 thanks for expanding my vocabulary, now I knw why I go crazy for certain things (and never get tired of looking at Rick Owens and Demobaza collections) and others just look meh.
Okay I left a comment on a different video, and said I would go back to lurking, but I had to say how well-timed this video is! This is such a cool concept, and you're bringing it to life in a way that can be done for fun and fashionably in our world. I now know what Treasure Planet and Nausicaa count as, I love those so much, even if I wouldn't wear it myself. It gets my mind whirring at possible art ideas, well done! ♥🖤
Can’t believe I missed this upload. Great video! I love witchy nature styles but I also love dark cyber styles too. I have a few velvet and lace renaissance inspired type pieces in my wardrobe that are a lighter color palette but I never wear them out. I don’t feel comfortable being overly feminine in public. I have dresses that I’ll wear in my house that have never seen the light of day. It would be really neat if you did a video on how to make overly feminine outfits a bit more masculine or muted to balance them out.
Soooo cool! Super interesting take, as usual ❤ I tend to prefer the more fantasy side (witch and vampire) but I'll die sure try to implement some of your suggestions
I love Bloodborne! I would actually say it would be a mix of my previous video in the Vampiric aesthetic since the game is so Victorian focused and obviously blood / moon focused but for this video Id say Steampunk since thats also Victorian inspired and Dieselpunk is more modern in comparison since thats 1910s and after
Omg finally someone did cyberpunk, but PUNK And you made a solarpunk mention in the diagram AND in the fashion recommendations 😭😭 It's my favorite of these aesthetics, i have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to it. Love the aesthetic and the beliefs that they have (also living in a tropical country helps me way better to make this fit)
Thank you!!! And how could I NOT talk about Solarpunk 👀 I feel like most Solarpunk topics is more talked about as a setting in novels but thought it was relevant to think about the styles that would exist in that world!
I think that too! And i don't think it's a very know "punk subcategory" yet, so it's complicated to find stuff out there And i would LOVE a video of your interpretation on dark aesthetics for a warmer weather!! Loved the video and I'm excited to see more (i was seeing the ' vampire muse' video too and i have to say: im obsessed!! 😍❤️)
Thank you again for watching my videos 🥹 I actually did have a warmer weather video planned but I went on an unexpected hiatus for a mental health break but keep an eye out for it in the future 🖤
I identify as Industrial an aesthetic that is inspired by Cabinet of Caligari, Fritz Lang Metropolis & Russian Olympic posters. Thanks for pointing out that DA can also point to the Future not just The past & mythology 😎☕💋
Loved this one! Thanks for taking your time to cover it! I see solarpunk got nested into apocalyptic, but sadly there aren't many references as the other sci fi styles :P it reminds me of octavia butler's "parables" or cherry dimaline's "the marrow thieves". For both apocalyptic and avant apocalyptic I would also add the brazilian artist João Queiroz (@Q1ROZ), and the brazil based brand Nalimo, by indigenous fashion designer Dayana Molina.
Thank you for the additional references! And agreed, not enough references sadly - thats I mentioned looking into any "subversive" or some grunge elements can be styled into Solarpunk or Apocalyptic but at its the one that requires the most creativity

Rachel of Blade Runner. Literally look into it, I feel this is something you will like.

Some more inspiration for Apocalyptic Punk: Tank Girl and Borderlands video game series,

Thank you! I actually havent heard of that one so thank you for the recommendation!
omg so excitted for this!
I hope you enjoy it! this was a fun one to make 🖤
You're my favorite YT fashion place! Thank you for the hard work you put into these videos.

Really loved this video! I was one of the ones who requested post apocalyptical fashion in your last video and you nailed it so well! Thank you!🙏🏻

I got a lot from this. My personal favorite of the 3pillars/5muses is siren, and probably avant apocalypse out of the dystopian types.
ahh, so good!! i love the og witchy, occult styles but the apocalyptic styles were prob my fave in this video, great work tyy

Thats definitely all good points and it definitely depends on lifestyle, Apocalyptic is very versatile and I love the imperfections of it
Yes, all good, valid points. 🦇 🖤 🎃 Spot on. 🕸️
Yes! I’m so excited for this one! Cyberpunk lets gooo! Super curious about the other styles too 😊
I wish I had more time to cover much more Cyberpunk but I hope you like what I do cover! 🖤

Love the Solarpunk & Cyberpunk styles the most. Fabulous video as always and I enjoyed it as much as the dark creatures/spooky one💖
Love this take!
Thank you 🖤🖤🖤
