Really appreciate this! I played this in a classical tournament game today and won because of the opening! (I had hated playing against French before this!)
This a was a good video thanks for making it. At 6:20 Nc7 forking the Rook is nice but Nf6 forking the queen is an option... especially since we just moved the pawn defending that square just the move prior.
Beautiful attack!I just loved the variations you've shown... please go ahead n make a video on few more variations in this position as well the decline line 😊
@@bannor216 That just turns into the advanced variation. Anyone who plays the French sees that all the time, it's just usually played after 2. d4. Unless you take en passant on d6, giving black a pushed center pawn and a developed bishop while you have every piece on the back rank still. The engine likes 2. ...c5 better though, challenging d4.
Please cover all the variations you can get your hands on. The French is the most annoying defense ever and it's about time we have a crushing gambit against it
Hey kevin 👋🏼 i know this is a 7 months old video but would you be able to do a video on the declined version of this ortho shnapp gambit? Where black doesnt take after white takes in the beginning
For French defence players , 1e4 e6 2c4 d5 3cxd5 exd5 4Qb3 dxe4 5Bc4 Qe7 6Nc3 Nf6 7d3 Nc6 and black is much better . You can compare the activity of pieces your knight are going to come jumping in the middle of the board next and white will be having trouble coordinating his pieces. You can even play 7exd3 Be3 8 d2+ Kf1 and then castle your king on Qside and attack his uncastled king . Just to verify my knowledge of French sidelines I checked orthoscnopp with the engine and as expected engine gives -1.50.
Dear sir, your video session on orthoschnap gambit to crush the French defense is of absorbing interest as you analytically explained every possible move that can actually take place over the board. It can truely act as lethal weapon with maximum winning chances for white. It added knowledge and confidense playing against the usual lines. Looking forward for such studious session on e5 line and others. Thanks and regards. Dmbhangaonkar
@8.19, black can go Bxf2 which makes white loose castling and when you take with your king after Qf6 they grab the bisschop and it's not easy for white to win. Or did I miss something?
At 12:50 you say that there are no good defence but how should bishop b7 be answered because bishop b7 is protected by the queen. I would appreciate some insight regarding this move.
You take the b5 pawn with your queen its check and your now attacking the bishop on b7 with your bishop and queen the next move you take with your bishop/queen and he can't defend his rook anymore
At 6:12 you capture the knight with the Rook (Rxh6) rather than the bishop (Bxh6), and then black recaptures (gxh6). I can't figure out why you'd give up the rook rather than the bishop. I plugged the position into an engine and it agrees trading the rook (+6 vs +4 capturing with bishop).
I'm a little late here, but at 6:15, why would you *not* move Nf6, forking the king and queen?? Seems like the best move by far but he mentions Nc7 instead.
Kevin... I need a video on against Stonewall attack... It is so aggressive... So most attacking players are trying against me... Also it is fun to play as a white... So please please upload a video against Stonewall attack...
I don't think there's many aggressive gambits against the scandinavian as black is usually gambiting(a word?) a decent position with quick queen movement. I recommend trying to get a tempo on black by using the queen's generally vulnerable position to develop pieces so you're more developed than black is.
I'm just a chess noob, but at 3:26, how was the g7 pawn protecting the f7 square so that you could only bring the bishop in when you got it out of the way?
The moves 1.e4 e6 2.c4 d5 have occurred 578 times in master level play according to the Lichess database. I was surprised to see that White has played 3.exd5 in the vast majority of those games (469 times), not 5.cxd5 (98 times). The database also refers to 2.c4 as the Steiner Variation. So, my question is this: What move characterizes the Orthoschnapp Gambit? Is it 2.c4 or 3.cxd5? Also, I think a not-too-unlikely response from Black, to protect his f7 square, could be something other than 5...Qe7, 5...Qd7 or 5...Nh6. Black could play 5...Qf6. This still protects f7 while blocking neither bishop.
Well... after 4...dxe4 5.Bc4 Qd7 6.d3 Nc6! 7.dxe4 Na5 white is basically worse already, as Black gets the bishop pair for nothing - but feel free to call this junk "your favorite way to attack the French". The variation inventor FM Stefan Buecker dismissed it ages ago as nonchallenging.
I recently ran into a weird move of 2c4 c5!? which transposes to a strange sicilian. It isn't scary or anything, but I am not sure I want my pawn on c4 in a sicilian.
I like you've put the timestamps for different variations in the description

Well if you want to break the french defence just go through belgium
Nice
Instructions unclear, got caught.
Cringe unfunny and childish
@Grayson Callahan No it wasn't hilarious. It's a childish joke

thats waht i was thinking but then again doesnt really matter since black cant defend both and also the game is already completely over´anyway
Can't believe he didn't say that fork
Kevin every time there’s a new Chess opening video: “this is one of my FAVorite lines”
You're not wrong.

Super helpful videos I’m literally never disappointed everything is covered very clearly!
Hey, Kevin! Great video, thanks as always. Also at 6:22, the nasty Nf6+! as well as what you indicate with Nxc7+.
Love that immediate queen bishop diagonal shot!
Such a good video, keep up the great work!
Thanks Adrian.
Kevin doesn't even sound the same as he did when I started watching him and it's scary
yeah
Yeahh
Yea he finally hit puberty
Love your videos Kevin! Keep up the great work!
I'd like to see a detailed explanation on Orthoschnap Gambit declined
Hopefully others feel the same way.
At 12:05, black has a counterplay: 7...exd3 8.Be3 d2+ 9.Kf1 Nd7 10.Bxd2 Nc5.
very lively, informative analysis
6:00 instead of moving rook away, attack queen with b-g5. That threatens mate with R-d8
Good catch!!! Worst you can get is a free queen!
it is still winning, but not as much. Bg5 Qxg5 Rxg5 Be3 forks the king and rook.

If white plays Qxc7, then Na6 coming in to b4?

At 14:41 Knight to f7 means the Black will lose its Queen, there's no other way to remove the Check
12:53 Bishop to B7. Why is that not a good move?

5:20 why the bishop don't take the knight on h6 to remove the defender of the f7 square? Nice video as always !
At 6:05 after Bxf2 instead of Rh1, Bg5 and black loses his queen or gets mated by the rook on d8.
Very nice! but kinda dissapointed that 5...Qf6 is not covered since it's the second most played move
