That's a fun sideline! I love seeing the development of Orthoschnap theory, super entertaining chess. Btw, new vid style looks great! The dim lighting is kinda nice imo
New setup looks good. This gambit looks "dubious good", in true Schrantz style. A small request, as you're upgrading things: consider buying a cheap compressor to run your vocal mic through, before it hits your audio interface. Something like the Really Nice Compressor is, well, quite good for the money, and will solve the "I'm excited and now the mic is clipping" audio stuff. My unsolicited $0.02 🙂
The Orthoschnapp is my legitimate response to the French defense nowadays, but I never thought about this check line! Will be a fun variation against my friends who actually try to prepare against me :)
At 7:30, after Na3 black has Bxa3, but white can respond with Bxe6 since the rook now protects the c1 bishop, so this is fine. I was confused for a minute and decided to edit this comment with the answer rather than delete it :)
I recently discovered and love this guys videos. Useful stuff you can actually put into practice for the brave and the experimenters out there rather than click bait just to get more views. Useful ways to be active and agressive against london systems and french defences without all this theory and banging your head against defensive "book players" forcing you to solely do all the attacking work whilst they're just sat playing for a draw and sucking all the last drop of life out of chess. Useful stuff.
Great analysis! I got wrecked by this a few months ago. Completely had me off guard. I haven’t seen it since, so looks like I will try attacking with it now
Jonathan thank you for the content, don't mind you changing stuff as long as you don't change your everlasting fantastic mood. Brightens my day, thanks!
Personally I prefer this colour chess board. Not a strong preference though! What about some of black's other responses to 4. Qa4+? I can see that putting something on c6 is bad because of exd5, but Nd7 and Qd7 both seem like they might be reasonable responses. I'm worried that players who are comfortable with positional setups would be quite happy to play 4...Qd7, exchange Queens and end up in what looks like a dull middlegame. Any recommendations for playing against those responses?
Actually, 4...Nc6 works fine too, because if white takes black's d pawn, attacking the knight, then black takes back with the queen and white can't play Bc4 because of the threat to the g pawn. Not sure which is best (against the "new" ortho), but suspect it is 4...Bd7, with 6.Bc4 Qf6! (instead of Schrantz's 6...Qe7??) 7.Qxb7 Qc6! -/+
As an amateur who hates playing against the booked up. French. I can’t not give this a try. In my last 3 games, after 2. c4, they bailed with c5! Cowardly? Certainly. Strikes fear in the heart!! 👍
@@scarletovergods interesting line. I think it would be pretty even after b5, which would i think force a weird queen trade, which i generally try to avoid since my endgame sucks lol
6:30 in this position i wouldn't hesitate to play Bd5 to protect the queen and still go after the rook. looks like you'll be an exchange up after some trading.
kind sir: I invent a new gambit every single game. all my pieces are gambitted off. It is called the surprise gambit. Surprise the enemy just took my piece
Not sure how to automate it. It is just screen/window grab of lichess in browser by streaming software. That would require some active communication between streaming software and browser. It seems really annoying to do it manually by streamer himself. But interesting idea. Maybe someone else will think of some solution.
Maybe browser addon for lichess for "color profiles" (idk if it exists) , put them on shortcuts. That could be done with some macro system, since he probably changes scenes with shortcuts. Idk, just thinking.
Don't wanna be the party pooper, Jonathan even said, the opening is doubious, but if you ask yourself after the video: Damn, how do I play against that?! I think, Watsons suggestion 1.e4 e6 2.c4 d5 3.cxd5 exd5 4. Qa4+ Bd7 5.Qb3 Nc6 looks good to me. It's not that easy to see because exd5 wins a tempo on the knight but however white takes on d5, black get's a lead in development by making threats against whites queen. f.e. 6.Qxd5 Nf6 7.Qc4 Be6... or 6.exd5 Nd4 7.Qe3+ Qe7.
isnt after black queen to c6 white plays bishop to d6 better than retreating whites queen? if queen takes on b7 white has bishop takes on b7 and black is still losing a rook
Edit this video down to chess and chess only, no blah blah permitted. Jonathon had too much coffee on this day. I would bet that this has 7 minutes of chess in it. The rest is hyper bull. Normally the videos are far more efficient.
I think you used to have "move sounds" off? Move sounds are good for playing, but I think for video they are slightly weird. Maybe that's just me. Color of board is ok.
What do you play against the French Defense?
I play the Alapin gambit with a lot of success, but I'm going to give this one a try.
Classical 3. Nc3. Gimme that winawer
2. b3, it is an interesting gambit after 2..., d5, 3. Bb2, dxe4
orthoschnapp every time I can. mostly because it seems like something every french player would hate at least twice as much as I hate french defense.
London system because of I am a lazy player.
Johnathan you are a true inspiration, watching your chess had made me lose 600 rating points and all hope in myself
Lol, same comment as in live chat on Twitch 😎
I have to start a trend somehow
Thanks for the 5:30 am laugh brother 😆

There's no way to prepare against The NEW Orthoschnapp!

So what if black blocks the queen check with a pawn or knight and not bishop?
Great vid Jonathan. I’m gonna try this today against a club player who likes the French.
As a Grob player I found this vid particularly interesting and easy to understand. Thanks, Sir.
Great idea. And please keep the board that way. Classical, as it should be
7:58 You made a mistake!- The best move is Nd7! If Ne7, white equalizes.
Jonathan thank you for the content, don't mind you changing stuff as long as you don't change your everlasting fantastic mood. Brightens my day, thanks!

I’d be curious to see other variations like 4.c6 or 4.Nc6, which seems like a somewhat logical response to me.
4... c6 5.exd5 Qxd5 6.Nf3 Nf6 7.Bc4 looks like a nice line for white
@@scarletovergods interesting line. I think it would be pretty even after b5, which would i think force a weird queen trade, which i generally try to avoid since my endgame sucks lol
Almost every time I tried this instead of Bd7 after Qa4+ everyone plays c6 so idk what to do lol
Love the Orthoschnapp, can't wait to try this version of it :)
Finally! A Worthy Opponent!
This battle shall be legendary!
So I played this in bullet games (because of this video) but is there a follow up video dealing with 4..c6 and 4.. Nc6?
6:30 in this position i wouldn't hesitate to play Bd5 to protect the queen and still go after the rook. looks like you'll be an exchange up after some trading.
Qxc1+ followed by Bc6?
yeah thats a blunder bro
you drop the bishop ...QxBc1+ Ke2 Bc6 and the rook is guarded by bishop and the queen in case bishops exhange on c6.
You can't just take my bishop like that! 🙈
What color was the board before? I didn't even notice.
Excellent...my best chess buddy just picked up the French this should be fun
For him
You make me love Orthoschnapp Gambit!
I prefer the greyish-blue board! Nice video.
kind sir: I invent a new gambit every single game. all my pieces are gambitted off. It is called the surprise gambit. Surprise the enemy just took my piece
I think you should change the colours of the board depending on the series you are filming. That would be cool

Love the new board color
BOOM! Love your enthusiasm.
warm earth tones are easier on the eyes. that's why early computer monitors were amber. I just hate "snowmen pawns" myself
7:57 My engine says best move is Kd7 (-0.9), and in fact, in depth 40, Ke7 is 0.0
Ah, you mean Nd7 and Ne7 .. I thought you were trolling for sec there.
What do you do if the opponent just plays Queen back to f6 and goes for repetition, if you don't want a draw?
At 6:11 why would you retreat instead of playing bishop d5?
Qxc1+
Orange is apparently the most creative colour
what about 4. ... Nc6? seems to be very stable and good for black...
Keep up the very interesting work on gambits comes in handy playing blitz. Your camera out of focus several times during this clip. Thanks
thanks! I just got crushed with this attack, and now I understand it!
I like this better than the original orthoschnapp
16:26 bxc4 Qxe4, Re1?
Don't wanna be the party pooper, Jonathan even said, the opening is doubious, but if you ask yourself after the video: Damn, how do I play against that?! Where the weekly quizzes?
Just started playing this variation and my first opponent got checkmated on e6
Incredible weapon against the French. So many victories since I watched your video. Thanks, Jonathan!!
Interesting, thank you.
7:24 You scared me!
lol
Love the thumbnail
O schnapp this is gonna be my repertoire
7:24 i got scared
"New Orthoschnapp" sounds too tame, why not call it the *"OH SNAP!"*
Love the content
The wooden board looks natural, dunno if it's "orange" though lol
Who is/was Orthoschnapp?
isnt after black queen to c6 white plays bishop to d6 better than retreating whites queen? if queen takes on b7 white has bishop takes on b7 and black is still losing a rook
Doesn't work, Qxc3+
i figured out that i was playing with you in lichess yesterday xd
Yes I like that one. I prefer the most traditional board available, so there are no distractions.
Interesting, as always, and very aggressive .😇
Nice invention
missed bishop pins queen
yes board looks nice, i just popped in cause i missed your voice somehow😊
I've played this 3 times recently & every time my opponent has played 4...c6⁉️😖
Nice lines , ..
Never have I ever clicked a youtube video faster
This isn't new to me .been discovered this gambit
Miss you
hi: the computer is wroking great. You have a nice computer
13:12, what about Qg4, threatening both mate in one and Qxg2?
Ne2, Qxg2, Rg1
Didn't like the Orthoshnapp very much. This looks far better, gonna take a look.
I love it
Nice and like the button to reduce the playback speed, so I can follow better 😉
My opponents keep playing 4 ... Nf6 which is actually top engine move and no fun :\
what i learned: "i don't care, comment" XD
Qc6 ... Bd5
Board is good
Good one can you analysis my game
Not a big fan of the orange board
Fair enough. I'll probably go back to the old one. Thanks for the feedback!
3 or 5 years from now you are still bragging about New Computer.... think about the future when posting...only a recommendation-

Color of board is ok.
Day 27 of asking for a video on my funny English lines
Give the man what he wants
Dude take the hint
@@mcronrn he literally said he was just waiting for day 69 lol
Well if white's fourth move is not Qb3 then it is not the Orthoschnapp Gambit , therefor it is not " The NEW Orthoschnapp Gambit "
It still is the orthoschnapp, friend
Pleas go back to old chess board
Thanks for the feedback!
I find the "blue" Board theme on lichess the most friendly
You are not in a speed contest. Slow down dude.
