    For those asking about whether they get a free update, and the HDR Batch Processing, here is what Skylum tells me: Yes the update will be for all users - perpetual lifetime licenses included. However HDR batch will be accessible to those with access to that extension. Which means either people who had lifetime license + HDR extension, or lifetime users who bought lifetime after August 23.

      That's great news Jim. I'm really glad I bought the perpetual license of Neo when it first came out. I think I paid something like $80 for it at the time. With all the improvements they've made since, it's money well spent. Cheers.

    Great as always Jim. I can't wait for the update. Nit picking here but...when you switch to tools close up, your work area fades and makes it difficult to see what the tool you are demonstrating does the photo. Might just be me but I really like to see the change the tools make to the picture you are working on.

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks and understood. I get tons of people asking me to zoom in, and then when I do the way the recording software works is that it darkens the rest so you can focus on the zoom window. Maybe there is something else I can do but I tend to always show a before/after when done with a tool.

    Great video Mr. Jim, but I wish Luminar Neo introduced
    1. Subject blending with new background and/or vice-versa for compositing. They already do it in a way with sky replacement where the new sky dictates the colour/feel of the existing foreground.
    2. Auto-blend layers like that in Photoshop.
    Thank you for your video. I always learn a lot from your videos 🙏🏽

    I think that this is a step in the right direction. Hopefully at some point, they will introduce a hair refinement tool for masking to help masking out those flyaway's. As you selected the ear tips, maybe it could have selected the hairs as well. TBD. Color range masks would be super helpful as well (something like the new color picker in LR/ACR). Also, a color/luminosity picker would be useful and have the slider to fine tune. It is good that there is a feathering option with the triangle to blend the mask transition. As always Jim, thanks for the update!

You probably could've gone on for 45 minutes. Skylum's GUI for luminosity masking makes it instantly understandable! It's so intuitive. I hope this is as good as it sounds. Luminosity masking and reliable object selection are long overdue . I am a long time Skylum customer. But I’ve used their tools, including the most recent version of Neo, less and less, precisely because their masking is subpar. Neo AI masking cannot be trusted on even rather clear high contrast delineations. This is a shame, because some of the actual tools are brilliant. So, fingers crossed.

    Jim: Awesome video!! I decided to get Luminar Neo on the basis of your review and found the order section on the main page and it said it was $7.95 per month so I clicked on the Buy Now button and found the price was $11.95 per month. I reached out to the company and have been blown off by two people about this issue. I feel that the company should honor that price on the main page (it's been taken down since I spoke with them but I have a screen shot) since it was their mistake at least for the first year. Appears to be a great update. Thanks Jim. Maybe it's just me, but the switch to magnification on your video is nice, but unnecessary. Your cursor is already large and my eye has no trouble navigating to where/what you're talking about. In fact, it's a little frustrating when you magnify and then move these adjustments because the viewer can't see what they are doing. When you're in magnify mode, the picture you're editing goes very dark. I love your content....just giving you some honest feedback on this end.

    • @Centauri27
      @Centauri27 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I agree with your points. But I'm watching this on an 11" Chromebook and the full screen mode is far too tiny to read. The magnification is useful, though it does blot out the rest of the screen.

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks and yes it's funny that if I don't show any zooms, everyone seems to ask me to do so. Then when I do, I get comments like this one LOL. It's no biggie but I understand it darkens the non-zoom portion. Of course that is to draw attention to the zoom window. I can see if there is another way to do that or a setting I can change. But I think I always show the before/after when done with a tool so hopefully that helps you see what has changed in the photo.

    Very informative. Thank you. I too have been waiting for luminosity masking. Would you create a separate layer for such? I’d imagine there is a certain sequence when building a layered image. Like to hear your thoughts about that flow. If not easily set out, perhaps you can create another video about your preferred editing flow once Neo is out of Beta.

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You don't need a new layer for edits with all the regular tools. Each adjustment is like an adjustment layer in PS but you don't need to use the layers function in Luminar to add them. Just click the tool to open it, make the adjustment (luminosity or other mask type too) and close it. In Luminar, layers are reserved for things like texture overlays or composites or exposure blends. Does that help?

    As usual your videos are great and informative! Thank you. Skylum finally bringing some promised things (water enhancer) from the past that I pretty much gave up on. The new masking tools brings it closer to its competitors... finally. Was disappointed that Skylum didn't include a "picker" for it's curves and color functions.... something the "others" all seem to have... it's been bugging me for a while. It would be great if Skylum revisited and refined the denoise and sharpness add-ons. They are pretty much useless compared to DxO, Topaz, Lightroom and even On1. It's almost like a joke when you see comparison videos. Back when it came out, I was happy to pay for the extensions - now all it does is make me feel like I got "taken" for my money. Regardless, I remain a loyal user of Luminar Neo, and glad to see they are making further improvements. Still my #1 go-to app in my photo processing unless I run into something it can't handle, and others can. Looking forward to your tutorial videos on these new functions. Cheers!

      Nailed it with that comment. I've seen too many unacceptable results with A.I. noise reduction and sharpening. Not interested in their add-on plugins since I have a perfectly serviceable older Topaz Denoise doing well for both. That said, I wouldn't call luminosity masking a gimmick. It should have been there from the beginning. Or at least an edge-aware selection brush.
