How to mod RETRO VW gamma 3 radio | Bluetooth

- I found a Gamma 3 radio for my GOLF MK2. All of the backlights were dead so I replaced all of them with modern 5mm LEDs. Also I retro fitted a Bluetooth module which works when the radio is turned on. For this "high end" radio, I also bought an automatic antenna, for that extra comfort.

I only found for this model information on a german forum for the AUX mod... Couldn't find for gamma 2... Gamma 3 is the best for this kind of mod and it's easy to swap the lightbulbs as well :)
Do you have a link for the bulbs? Are they the same for the other switches in the MK2?
Dayum that antenna is bigger than the turbo on your average golf 4 tdi
Did you have to change the voltage that supply your LEDs? Was there a resistor needed so that they don’t blow out?
I used 12v LEDs not 3.5v
Great video guy! I liked it a lot. I’m restoring a mk2 GTI too and I have a question as I’m going to buy the car speakers for alpha radio. What speakers configuration do you have? Are you using 4 or 6 speakers? (Rear, front door and dash)
Thank you mate :) I am using 6 speakers 2 in the dash 2 in the doors and the last owner put 2 speakers in the rear "door panels" i dont have in the trunk like normally should :) i have some. But i will have to change them because they are kinda bad all of them xD
@@upcyclethepastutp9901 Thanks for your answer. Do you know the power and impedance of the speakers? How do you connect 6 speakers when radios are normally prepared just for four (lf, lr, rf and rr)?

It's still at the welder, it might take a couple of months....
@@upcyclethepastutp9901 Thats fantastic news. I am glad you didnt give up on that Golf. Welder was asking 700e to fix it. That is too much money. I hope he will fully restore the body for that kind of money. Paint job and protection included.

hello, where did you find the radio circuit to solder to the AM frequency? I'm trying to do the same with the Beta 4 stereo from the Golf 3, but I can't find the motherboard scheme anywhere to see where the AM audio inputs are.

hey nice video. i have an Beta 3 headunit tried a bluetooth cassette tape but sems like my cassette player is wornout it only playes sound on right channel. So anyone know if i can do this kind of mod to the Beta 3 headunit
Salut! Poate-mi dai ceva detalii cum ai desfacut radio sa ajungi la becuri
Salutari, se iau jos cele doua capace de fier, apoi se o sa vezi niste suruburi care tin panoul frontal, nu mai stiu exact cate sunt si unde, dar iti dai seama pe parcurs. Foarte important sa ai grija cand vezi ca vine jos panoul sa nu tragi de ea sa nu smulgi cablul ribon prin care este conectat la placa de baza. Apoi sunt inca 3-5 suruburi care prind plasticul frontal de pcb-ul frontal. Si atunci ajungi la faza in care poti schimba leduriile. Insa toate radiouriile retro de la vw sunt diferite complet in interior desii au desgin asemanator, daca ai de exemplu gamma 2 atunci procesul este complet diferit.

Hey man, this BT mod only works for gamma3. I dont know how you could do it for gamma5. But i think there is an option for plug and play for gamma5
I currently bought a Bluetooth adapter for my gamma 5 the problem is that it doesn't trick the cd changer so I need to find a way to install it, but it's similar to yours, it has 1 common/ left/ right output
