Kay, this game would've killed me at my letter opening. First question in, I would've already given up and force my mom to tell me. Best 2 years of my life though..
that's so awesome... congrats.. I'm sure your back home from your mission by now.. this video reminded me of when I opened my mission call letter and I got exactly where I wanted to go... Thailand the land of my ancestors... sweet.. God loves and hears your prayers!!
I'm sorry that you feel that way. I'm not going for my family, I'm going for myself and I can already feel the Lord blessing me because I want to go. My family is sacrificing a lot to to help me get there and I'm grateful for that. My brother is even offering $5 from his paper run to help me. The Lord will bless families as they let their sons go and serve Him. Pres. Hinckley shared an experience that he didn't want to continue on his mission. But he did and became a great prophet. =)
What a selfless person you are to have everyone else know where you were to serve before you did. Wish you had been called to serve in our mission - Auckland, New Zealand. We have pretty amazing missionaries here and you sound like you would have totally fitted in. Congratulations on your mission call. You must now be halfway through. Make sure you get to teach President Obama, k? Loved sharing your mission call video.
The catalyst to the Word of Wisdom was Emma Smith, you are right in that. You're also right in that we do respect women in our church. However, when you read the Word of Wisdom, it's more than just tobacco products, it's about eating healthily and avoiding alcohol. Not only that, there is a promise that the person following it will be healthier. As people have lived this code, they have been healthier so I don't think you can disregard this. Emma was a catalyst but it's actually about health.
I love this idea! I'm going to opening my call this week in this manner! Thanks for the idea and for sharing it! Hope you had a great time on your mission (I'm assuming you're back now). :)
It's a way of life that improves the quality of life not only for the person living it, but for those they serve. There are other religions that teach a way of life that has the same positive effect on the world...I think the confusion comes into play in regards to the eternal principles and ordinances. There are plenty of good people in many walks of life...let's not discourage anybody from doing good regardless of their possibly differing religious beliefs/practices.
Well, using the example of baptism for the dead, we are performing work for our ancestors. It's a mark of respect for our forefathers and they don't have to accept it, they can choose to reject it in the spirit world, so in that sense, a baptism for the dead is a very real act of kindness. Also, Mormonism was preaching that non-smoking was healthy a long time before it was scientifically proven. Even in the 50's, smoking was endorsed by doctors, who said that it opened the airways. =)
Hey Elder! So i totally came upon your video on accident.. Well turns out you are my missionary's room mate! Elder Nisson! How cool is that?:) You probably wont see this until you get home but i thought it was cool:)
We say "each to his own" when talking about sexual orientation and political views. Why can't religious freedom be allowed too? You say it's well-documented but I don't believe that the sources you read were credible. I believe that church to be true and I believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I know the Book of Mormon to be true. I have received my answer and I cannot deny that. Believe what you will but do not suppose to tell me what is or is not right. They are my beliefs, not yours
Researched the Church history (Failed banking, blacks, etc.) and quite frankly it made my testimony stronger. I pursued truth and simply found more. But hey, if you're hell bent on trying to convince us otherwise proceed by all means, all power to ya. Additionally, cool idea for opening the mission call. I think my friend is going to use her samurai sword as a letter opener.
I love being a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! Washington DC is an awesome area. My husband Elder H went to medical school there:) awesome idea opening the call! Those of you who are critical of this young man, could've been where Obama claims to be borne i.e. Hawaii or where he works Washington DC
Sheila Hunter Yes it must be wonder if give people extremely racist scriptures with racist prophets Book of Mormon ". . . wherefore, as they were white and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them (2 Nephi 5:21)." Book of Moses (Pearl of Great Price) ". . . there was a blackness came upon all the children of Canaan, that they were despised among all people . . . (Moses 7:8)." "And . . . they were a mixture of all the seed of Adam save it was the seed of Cain, for the seed of Cain were black, and had not place among them (Moses 7:22)." Book of Abraham (Pearl of Great Price) ". . . from Ham, sprang that race which preserved the curse in the land (Abraham 1:24)." "Now the first government of Egypt was established by Pharaoh, the eldest son of Egyptus, the daughter of Ham, . . . Noah, his father, who blessed him with the blessings of the earth, . . . but cursed him as pertaining to the Priesthood. "Now, Pharaoh being of the lineage by which he could not have the right of Priesthood, . . . (Abraham 1:26-27)."
everyone will kill me before i say this: if you aren't mormon what are you doing here? can you understand this video? or you will be saying anything to offend us? i think that
I remember opening my mission call. DIdnt want to go at all. I wish I never went it was a complete waste of time. The majority of Mormons go because its whats expected and you're looked down if you dont go. The sad thing is most families sacrifice to send their kids and are told the lord will bless you but nothing good has come from it.
dude, I've spent 10 years of my life looking for religion, studying, traveling to different countries, asking people.. from Christians, to Muslims, to Scientolgy, to Voodoo, and my honest opinion to you, is don't believe everything you see and hear. If you want the truth go to the source. I've read hundreds of books on religions, even ones written by Mormons, and honestly, when you really open your mind, and use logic, its the most logical, and common source of truth in one place, yet to date.
from the people? I.E. extremist religious groups committing terrorist acts, so-call-Christians bashing others, condemning them, and filling congregations full of fear and hate. The people are a direct reflection of the truthfulness of a religion. While we have ALL know some "jack" mormons, the majority shines so much brighter than any other faith. That alone is pretty incredible proof. People that live by example, not word.
did you use to be Mormon? I'm not Mormon, but I did live in Utah for about 4 years, and I can't disagree with your statement. But then again, that's not Mormon culture, thats Utah culture. The mormon church is larger outside of utah than it is there, so the fact that it happens there is because of that culture. I'm actually glad you brought up gay Mormons though! I know some! including blacks.. etc, the list goes on. They live extradordinarily happy lives. My friend, we'll just say Tim at this
That's like saying Baptist are a cult. Or other Christian's for that matter. It's kind of really ridiculous and far off that you would think of that, escpecially to post it on a mission call like this. o.0
It really astonishes me that you don't see how hateful you're being by spending two years knocking on people's doors to tell them they've got it all wrong. From the nature of reality to the afterlife to what they eat, how they think, what they believe. Everything. Everyone's got it all wrong and you got it all right. Well have fun on your hate trip.
@Libertarian.....don't speak for the majority of Latter-Day Saints who choose to willingly serve their heavenly father. I am sorry you weren't strong enough to tell your family you didn't want to go. I have received numerous blessing from my service as a Missionary and I know hundreds that has similar experiences from their service. So prior to making any more ridiculous statements, be adult enough to speak for yourself and not the majority of those who have served.
Mormonism can help you IF you reject all the principles specific to the religion. (hence the burning question: why be Mormon in the first place?) For example, not smoking cigarettes is part of common health knowledge. Mormonism is unnecessary to tell humanity this. Temple ordinances, on the other hand, are specific to Mormonism and have no positive effect on the reality of anyone's life. One microscopic act of real, non-religious human kindness surpasses one million baptisms for the dead, no?
We don't tell them they are wrong, it's more offering them something different if they want to change. No one is forced to join our church. It's offered, they can accept it or reject it, just like any other door-to-door salesmen. Can I ask you something? Why are you so against Mormons? By telling us that we're hateful and wrong, isn't that trying to tell us that everything we believe is wrong too? It's coming across that you're preaching against preaching and creating a bit of a paradox.
Believe what you want, but if you were to actually research the history of the church (not the LDS version obviously), your testimony be totally destroyed. If you want to keep your testimony, I would suggest to you what Boyd K. Packer suggested. "Truth is not always useful". For me, I think truth should be pursued at all costs. But that's just me.
Well if your christian and believe in the bible then you believe that donkeys can talk "And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?" (Numbers 2:28) How is it that God appearing to a boy is so impossible and nuts? But if a donkey starts talking, it's completely reasonable?!?
Kay, this game would've killed me at my letter opening. First question in, I would've already given up and force my mom to tell me. Best 2 years of my life though..
"VIRGINIA!?"
Hahaha, this was adorable.
What a COOL way to find out where you're serving/ What a FUN family !!!

let me get this straight. You think religion is the most logical, common source of truth? OK. I guess we're done here.
It really astonishes me that you don't see how hateful you're being by spending two years knocking on people's doors to tell them they've got it all wrong. looking forward to the deconversion video when you learn about the Book of Abraham, and how many teenage girls Joseph Smith was married to
