I own one of these; my entry level purchase. I'm using it mainly for wooden boxes, pendants and coasters. I do not regret this purchase one bit! Loving it!! 👍😉😁
Thanks for the review, I have this very model and am quite happy with it. I solved the vibration issue by bolting it to a board and clamping the board to the work bench. There is a small tray on the right hand side that one could use for holding extra blades. I don't use it myself, but I thought it would be worth a mention. Don't forget the safety key for power switch.
My experience... Light is distracting, the blower does not do what it is supposed to, claiming a warranty is not easy. The tension lever never worked had to just accept spinning the lever to tension. Pin blades are trash, if you use the alternative blade holders you can get away with using pinless blades by clamping using the hex screw, get a few dozen extra screws ready on hand. Out the box remove every screw you can access except the blade holders and apply locktite before use. If you want to really get into this save up and get a delta or equivalent with quick change blade. It works for entry level projects and that's it.
When this puppy gets to vibrating the light can be a real buzz kill. The pinless blade option is nice but boy are they a pain in the arse to change. You have to take off the side cover and reach inside to hook the clamp to the arm, then hold the blade tight and thread it through your work without letting the bottom clamp fall off. The pinless clamps tend to bend the blades and make them useless. I, thank God, bought mine at HD. They have a great 365 day return policy, I walked in and told the clerk I wanted to return it and she said OK. 90 seconds later I was driving away. Wen :>) I got home I ordered the Delta 40-694 on sale for $299.00 at, you guessed it, HD. It is great for beginners but beyond that you'll need to spend a few more dollars for the Delta or Dewalt etc...
I really appreciate the thorough and honest review. I am going to be working with stabilized and\or hybrid burl wood and I want to know if you think this motor is powerful enough for it. Also, do you have a recommendation for blade type for stabilized wood esin? Thanks!
I bought one today. The screw is stripped that adjusted the table top level right out of the box. And the air blowing tube doesn’t work. Very noisy and doesn’t cut 1 inch wood very good.

I bought this saw a few months ago. I have used it a lot lately... Mind you I have no other scroll saw to compare it to... Its a little rough I think but it cuts fast and true. Its balanced pretty good. What I love is using a SANDING BELTS in the saw. I find the blade storage on the side pretty much useless
I brought a scroll saw simular from mitre 10 SS407 tooline it was worth $350.00 last in the store it has all the same gadgets etc I’m still trying to figure out the air compressor though I can’t wait to work on projects.👍
Mine is not like a sewing machine what so ever. How to you bold it down? I see holes but its under a bunch of crap that looks like it needs to be taken apart to use them??
The real advantage of a scroll saw is being able to cut inside patterns by drilling a hole and inserting the blade through the hole to do the cut. You just cannot do that with a band saw. Also, you can typically cut tighter curves with a scroll saw because the the blade is so much smaller.

When I was looking for a 16 inch scroll saw for my grandson here in New Zealand we get the option of a number of brands, but in that size I could not find a good quality one. All of a sudden it dawned on me that all the ones I looked at where actually identical except for the price , colours , labels and the technical specifications . Some had a light, different motor, rotary engraving tool etc. The castings were all exactly the same and all made in China. If you want to buy good quality don’t buy Chinese. Most of the time their products look nice and shiny but soon after usage it starts to deteriorate “ rapidly “ ! This “Wen” scroll seems to be another one of those made in China just with another colour paint !
I thought I was the only one with this problem!! This is my same problem > I have not been able to get my pin less blades to stay in after repeated attempts! But he said in this video that they accept them. I wish I could get it to stay in place.
I personally prefer the pinned; it is just an easier setup for me when I'm doing a lot of interior cuts and need to keep removing the blades, however Jim Dollens does a segment on changing out the pinless blades here- th-cam.com/video/Ybno8u4zXho/w-d-xo.html (NDM Wen Model 3920 Scroll Saw Pinless Blade Change). I own a really crappy scroll saw and if u use high quality blades simply assemble them to bend where you tight the blade , loose one of the allen bolts and tight the other when blade bends ,it will withstand more tension and won't slip of those bolts
A little homework and you'll find there sometimes isn't a whole lot of difference other than cosmetic in the products, but I think you'll be happy plus have a little money left over for add ons. Thanks.
There should be an adjustment screw for the air pump. Make sure you haven’t missed that…I’ve seen other reviews, where they rave about how good the air pump is. 🤷♂️
Thanks for your overall info on this saw. I also got one for a Christmas gift. I am having trouble with the blades cutting smoothly and getting easy turns on small pieces. I tried both Olson pin blades and pinless, (double reverse tooth and single direction blades) which are tricky to get in straight, especially on smaller tooth ones, but both seem to be catching on the wood. I find I have to hold the wood down super hard to the table. Any tips or suggestions? I want to be able to cut out small pieces like little wood hands.
@@angie2099 try using a sharpening stone around the back of the blade, round it out a bit. Makes the blade a bit slimmer and trimmer, obviously don't use the stone on the cutting teeth of the blade. I do it and seems to make the blade cut more smoothly and makes it a little bit more nimble when cutting tight radiuses. Hope it helps....
I'm new to woodworking so I need to be educated. I bought this saw and it's fun but I have one concern. You really have to hold down the material being sawed (3/4" pine) or it sometimes lifts off the table and bounces around. Most videos show little if any force being needed to hold the material. Is it me or my saw or blades? Any input would be appreciated. Thx. PS: Blade teeth are pointed downward
You allways have to apply enough pressure to keep it steady, or it will jump around. Practice with some scrap wood following pencil lines and learn its characteristics, gentle pressure towards the table and gentle pressure towards the blade, slow and steady. If a blade breaks your pushing way to hard.
My original plan was to make wooden seashells, but ironically that is the one thing I have not done yet... I keep getting caught up in newer projects that I find on the black hole called Pinterest. Lol
Anyone here that can help? I’m trying to cut letters on my WEN. Pretty small but not ridiculously small. On 1/4 birch, saw is bolted on top of a pad to minimize vibration however when I cut it’s still super jumpy😢 idk what I’m doing wrong. I am a beginner. Can someone help? Thanks!

Turn the blade over so the little teeth are toward the table. If the blade teeth are pointing up it will push the wood up off the table. Hope that helps
You can, draw your line then put a bead of motor oil on the line or the plastic will Remelt into it's self on the back side of the blade, it's take a little practce.
I am looking for a scroll saw and have read about a 100 reviews. The funny thing is, the saws that cost $500 and the saws that cost $100 get just as many bad reviews... it makes the choice all the more difficult.
Lots of truth to what you said. Folks are more likely to post negative than positive reviews, and many of the positives are more like endorsements from people with financial gain attached. Am I the only one that feels like a scroll saw shouldn't cost over a hundred bucks or $150 at that?All it is really is a jigsaw adapted with a coping blade with a table come on man....
All $ 100.00 scroll saws are basically the same. Owned a Delta - worked good enough for occasional use for about 3 years, and as expected, the moving parts wore out. It eventually sounded like a jackhammer, snapped every blade within 10 seconds of starting it up, and had to chase it across the workbench to shut if off. Unless you're buying a Heger and your professional reputation depends on your tools, Wen, Delta, Harbor Freight, etc..are all going to perform about the same. Toss it when it no longer performs and buy another.
Great description on this product. We cant get this product in Australia BUT we can buy an EXACT replica just painted blue. Which i just did $170Aus will let you know my thoughts when i use it.

Well, I'm about to find out if it's a waste or not. Mine is scheduled to arrive next Tuesday from Home Depot. Only thing I'm worried about it using it with flat blades. If that's too much hassle, I'll exchange it for something else.
I’ve heard good things about Porter Cables entry level scroll saw. The one time buy I’m looking at it is the Jet table top scroll saw with a 18inch throat.

i have a saw in that class. i replaced a couple of the set screws with wing bolts. seems to work.
I would have liked to see you cut different sizes of wood on it to see how well it works.

So is this just like a bandsaw lite or something? What is the difference? Would it be better to just get a bandsaw if you're going to use it a lot?

Been on the fence about this saw for kydex work. Was thinking of getting a porter for double the price. Think you just saved me $100.

Not a good scroll saw. The tension rod broke 2 times. I’ve used the scroll saw 4 times. Wen did not have spare parts.
Recommend this unit or ryobi one?

Indicates dull blades and/or blades not meant for that type of wood. The right sharp blade makes a huge difference.

Decent machine however major changing pin end blades are a nightmare. No intarsia. I moved up to a Porte Cable 18" and this will go to Goodwill.
