    So, when Tool composes their songs, they will write the music first - then Maynard James Keenan will write his lyrics/vocals in reaction.
    For these 3 tracks, they were originally all written together as one piece of music at over 20 minutes long... they were later indexed into individual tracks for the Lateralus album's release.

  • @Tcanderson2

    "Her" is not just the Moon, Her is basic feminine quality in the existance, in Sanskrit language known as Prakrti. She enables manifestation of all matter (subtle and gross). In the west it is also called mother Nature, but Nature much wider than what we currently perceive as nature. She is all the energy, modern science already recognizes that all existance is one energy just manifested in bilions forms. Prakrti is in constant play with Purusha which is the basic masculine principle in existance. In the west simply called as the Father. He gives Will, awareness of Being, Self. Without each other Prakrti and Purusha are nothing. Purusha is inert, doesnt have energy for any action, whereas Prakrti without Purusha is constantly acting in non-awareness, changing forms with no peace. On smaller scale we could say she is the Moon, and he is the Sun, in more smaller scale he is the Man and she is the Woman. Question comes what happens when He and She finally meet in absolute balance, Yin and Yang. They both realize what actually they are, that they have the One source. The Source of everything that IS, is that which IS NOT (in Sanskrit SHI-VA). Source of THING is NO-THING. Modern science also knows that vacuum is very potent, with little charge it begins to emitate particles of matter. Because we dont know anything of it, we cant measure it, so we label it as DARK. So many new labels, like Dark energy, Dark matter... But important is that the Source can be experienced, when that happens pineal gland, which is the part of our physiology closest to the Source, is activated, for our body and mind it is the most joyable and most therapeutic state of being, state of equanamity while being extremely alert - Samadhi in Sanskrit. DMT Molecul which pineal excretes is simple molecul and unfortunatelly humans produce it synthetically and misuse it. Ayahuasca is also a misuse. They experience something which they are not ready for, because initially its wonderful, adiction is normal, but opened storages of memories from many previous lifetimes soon lead to paranoia and even madness. In the best case, adiction will lead to building new karmic bondages and even bigger Ego which will burden future lifetimes even more than this one. So, NEVER EVER stimulate pineal by using chemicals. Instead just live, naturally, healthy, our pineal glands are encapsulated from early childhood ages due to exposure to many toxins from food and water, fluoride as well. To open it up takes a lot of work and healthy lifestyle, Sun rays stimulate it as it has light receptors similar to eyes, so gaze into the full Moon reflections, as well as Sun early morning late evening when UV rays are low. Dont overthink Brad, too much importance given to thought process especially in the west last 400 years, be frank for once in the lifetime and admit to your self that you simply no nothing of this maginificient existance. Sat Nam 🙏🧘‍♂️🫂

      Oath fuck yeah I tried DMT too early and when you mentioned it opens up doorways in memories that is pretty cool. I have no concrete past memories per say but I see people and it is just a without a doubt recognisable but logically I know I have never met them it is kinda a pain in the arse since logic itself is just dense and being open too soon does create conflict. At a stage now where I have to relax and innerstand that I know nothing in this human form.

    I've watched a few of these Tool reactions now. It's interesting to see the personality differences between you guys. Lex is more in the moment and enjoys living the experience of the music. Brad seems to be more interested in the reading and listening than feeling - likes to analyze more than experience. He seems to be more get frustrated with the slower songs because he's looking for the next thing to happen instead of trying to feel it.
    Bit of friendly advice to Brad: the best way to come to fully appreciate Tool is to accept it as a journey - sit back, close yours eyes, and feel it. Maybe look into the meaning of the song first and have the lyrics on hand to refer back to (not damn lyric videos with wildly varying audio quality).

    I always interpreted the weather as a metaphor for "mood"... an inner weather. Imo the song is saying what you say no matter what, good or bad, big or small, it affects the world around you; the people around you, it affects their weather. Because the "I don't care what people say" is always a lie. You may act like you don't care but it affects you no matter even what even if it's only to make you ignore it. So to me this lyrics say, in a very peotic way, "be mindful on how you affect the world".

    You have served your Tool apprenticeship, now you are ready for Lateralus. Based around the Fibonacci sequence, the numbers of life found in the shape of leaves, waves, shells and this song has so many references to it (lyrics, syllables, time signatures etc.) and a great follow up to 46 and 2 thematically. I guarantee Brad will blow his mind analysing it and Lex will be totally lost in the groove. Spiral Out !!!

      @@BradAndLex if you do, you should do the live version from the drummers POV. That way you could see the awesomeness of at least one of their musicians. They're all top musicians, considered by many as being the equivalent to musical surgeons, such is the precision and technique they apply to their music craftsmanship. Also, Danny Carey (Tool's drummer) is considered by many as one of the best ever rock/metal drummers, something I feel you two still haven't quite taken notice. Don't take this the wrong way, but I saw your reaction to Fourty Six & Two and you clearly missed to notice that towards the end there's a drum solo going on. I get that you focus a lot on the lyrics and in my opinion Maynard's lyrics are a real pieces of art, being extremely deep, complex and meaningful, but Tool is worth for the sum of it's parts and I think it would do both of you good to start being able to get that, so you can fully engage in the unique experience they provide. There's a reason why after almost 30 years of Tool being around no other band can even come close to sounding like them. They're just unique in what they do. A true once in a lifetime type of band.

    Tool's music, in my humble opinion, has some of the better lyrics written in the past three decades, but they are MUCH more than that! Their music will speak lyrics to you, if you let it. Brad picked that up with Triad, but it happens a lot with Tool! As Lex said, the music is a vibe! Just let the music in Brad, let it in!

  • @Tcanderson2
    @Tcanderson2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I usually don’t post my theories by I’m going to go ahead and do it. There’s a reason Tool never released their albums on Spotify/Apple Music/etc. it’s because the albums are supposed to be listened to in full. Also. The lyrics, as amazing as they are, are just 1/4 of the music. If it was me, and I was listening to tool the first time, I would close my eyes and hit play on the first track, then let the entire album play, and experience the album as a whole. Then afterwards, look up lyrics and listen again. Two different experiences. It’s the way I think they (tool) meant for it to be experienced. They are a once in a lifetime band and that is still plAying them down. They are literally a once in a forever experience. No one comes close to the experience they make. There’s a reason there’s a “cult” tool army. We aren’t a cult following. It’s just now everyone else is starting to realize the genius in this band. They will forever be, the greatest band ever. And I’m saying over zeppelin, over Pink Floyd, over whoever. This band is truly perfect, in every sense of the word.

    • @baileymoyer9777
      @baileymoyer9777 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that’s definitely part of the reason, but I think it’s a split among the band members and Maynard pointed that out the last time he was on JRE and joe mentioned that and Garth brooks he doesn’t want his stuff broken up. I feel like Carey was the main one in opposition of it because FI he wanted to be one singular song and I’m pretty sure these 3 were originally one song. Plus Danny is the one that talks about reprinting everything on vinyl. That’s just my thought idk if it’s right but to me it makes sense

    The lyrics do mean something, but Maynard's main focus is to use his voice as an instrument in the composition. Tool is very unconventional, compared to mainstream music. If you're a prog-head like me, it's more commonplace. But yea, def won't be appreciated by most of the mainstream. Their music is so good though, that they've charted before and still get plays on rock stations with older singles. Tool's all about the journey. The texture, the feel, the unanticipated.
    Great choices of tracks, guys! These are definitely less accessible, but some of the more brilliant Tool tracks. Def listen to these back with your eyes closed in a lounge chair and just checkout when you get a chance. That's how I think Tool is best approached. Full album playthroughs are the best, but won't be best for reactions. It's like reading a book, and watching a movie combined, but you can fill it with your own meaning. If you don't want to do psychedelics, but want to come close, Tool's a great choice. lol! All that's needed to appreciate Tool is an open mind and surrendering your predeterminations to the music. Let it kinda hold your hand. Lex picked up great on that, and you're starting to, Brad. Great stuff y'all!
