This is Tool's absolute apex. It's the most significant work these 4 people have made. Lateralus is a masterpiece of an album, but these tracks specifically are the height of their musical output. Everything that was happening in their lives allowed for them to reach this level, if only briefly (a place most artists never reach). They were still young enough men, most of which still didn't have a family to focus on and could devote themselves to their craft and output. These three pieces represent something more akin to classical music playing on rock (and world) instruments than rock songs. Are there even verses or choruses or bridges here? I was just getting into Tool as this album was released, I was 17 at the time and completely not ready and yet fully available for what this album had to give me. I saw Tool for the first time the next year on my 18th birthday and I hadn't really absorbed these three pieces yet. The band rocked like hell took about a 15-20 minute intermission and came back out to play this trilogy and it changed my life. I know people often say things like that, but in this case, it's not hyperbole. It changed my life. I was by myself in a sea of strangers who were all there tuned into the exact same frequency. I rethought the kind of person I wanted to be. The path I was on, the people I associated with, my relationship with myself and with art with an honesty I'd never been able to access. Sometimes we can have a deeply profound experience with art and it can shift our thinking and perspective on life. I purposely don't listen to these tracks very often, but I will sometimes during key moments of transition in my life. Lately I've been to Tool again and from a different perspective in life and again feel drawn to this piece. There is a lot obscuring behind a corner in my life at the moment and the best I can do is remain vigilant and open. Spiral Out.
These 3 sections are akin to a sonata by Beethoven or Chopin. There are contrasts all throughout but also a certain element that unites all 3. Simply a masterpiece.
I still haven't hears anything like it. If anything, this album sound almost ancient to me. There are moments where bands like ISIS and Neurosis and Om give me some of what Tool were doing on Lateralus, but then I'll listen to "Disposition/Reflection/Triad" and I'm reminded that no, this work is quite singular. I'm also a big Rush and King Crimson fan and can identify the reference points and DNA that have found their way into Tool's catalogue, but even then, Tool occupy their own landscape.
Reflection always has been and always will be my favorite song. It kept me strong when everything in life was coming crashing down. Awesome reaction. Also, the abridged version of Reflection played live by Tool AND Meshuggah back in 2001 was so fucking epic. It will always be one of the strongest memories of my life. Also, when you watch Danny play live, his arms move so fast they seem blurry
Second to last date of that tour at Lawler Event Center, Reno NV, with Meshuggah opening, was not only the greatest Tool show I’ve seen(out of 9) but had got to be the greatest concert I’ve ever experienced(out of too many to count). They closed with the Holy Trinity and Lateralus, which was bridged by an Easter egg, a brief version of Wings for Marie. But for Reflection and Triad, was one of the rare times in concert I saw Maynard don a guitar and play, and for icing on the cake, Triad had a couple of the guys from Meshuggah come out and play the song with them, in particular, their drummer Tomas Haake, playing a standing drum set, he and Danny just KILLED it. That night was one of those bookmark moments in my life and I’ll never forget it. I was lucky enough to actually find footage of that concert on TH-cam
Reflection really makes me feel some things. I can tell you guys were feeling it, too. When the lyrics kick in, the way they're so haunting overlayed on the sweet melody of the instruments, it's just otherworldly. Which fits in with the actual lyrics and all their talk about space. But there's a message there for us all, and it's stated so poetically. I think the most poignant is: "As full and bright as I am, This light is not my own, A million light reflections Pass over me" None of us are in this alone and none of us are an island. We all affect those around us and are all affected by everyone else. We should all remember when we do anything, the ways that it may affect other people. I have issues with it myself, but I am trying.

I saw them on that tour and when Adam looped those last 5 chords (actually think he played them, manually, over and over bc it kept getting more and more distant with each rotation) for like 10 minutes I was in Heaven lmfao.
That album dropped right after my Mama (grandma) passed away. Mama was the most pious, god-loving, wonderful person ever. She treated everyone beautifully and never had a harsh word for anyone. When I first heard Wings for Marie, I had a hard time not crying. When Pt 2 came on, I was bawling like a little kid before it even got to "Give me my wings" and after that I just couldn't stop crying. That song hit me deep.
The drumming in Triad is underrated. Check you the drum cam of Triad. It's old and of less--than-ideal quality, but the drumming and creativity Danny brings are every bit as good as Pneuma.
Definitely. What I take away from watching him perform it live is his mental and physical endurance to carry that beat for the entirety of that track. That track amongst an entire set of lengthy complex tracks nonetheless.

Love your guys reaction. You kept looking at each other saying "right?" Hahaha. Like you were reading eachothers minds. I also like when you predicted there was gonna be a "wave of fuckness" about to happen. Always great reactions to Tool. More please!
I remember seeing them perform this live back during the Lateralus tour. Everyone around us was just completely mesmerized and stunned at how they could pull this off live. The level of complexity, precision, and musicianship is just off the charts. It's too bad they don't play this live anymore because I think this is Tool's crowning achievement.
Greatest insight regarding putting a song down for a few years and coming back. I did that with these songs as a well as Lost Keys and Rosetta Stoned. As I matured so did my appreciation for all these master pieces. Ps - awesome reaction as always. Such authenticity. 🙏🏻
When Lateralus came out, I got the album having no real clue who Tool was, only really hearing "Schism" on the radio thinking it sounded cool. I got really REALLY baked, put on headphones and listened to the entire CD beginning to end laying in bed. That was it, game over. I honestly wish I could experience that again, hearing them for the first time. Watching these two (especially Dylan's wife) experience Tool for their first time brings me back to that again, really gives me that feeling seeing their reactions. I truly envy them... There's no other band like Tool, as far as I'm concerned. Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned.. please.
Every time I hear these tracks I get shivers in my spine multiple times. The deep meditative trance they put you in by just the sheer awesome musicianship in every measure punctuated with those moments of THEY SOME HOW MADE THE SONGS EVEN BETTER THAN I IMAGINED.
24:23 I'm right with u there my friend. Their music has that effect on those who are fortunate enough to be in a higher vibration to really, really appreciate it! 🙏 Amazingly, some ppl don't get their music at all!? With other bands I usually accept their opinions with kind of indifference. But wen it comes to TOOL! I just feel sad for them....weird huh? Anyway, love n light to u and yours.
My favourite songs that meld into each other, close to Parabol/Parabola and The Contortionist's Language I/ Language II. Dope reaction, is always cool to see people enjoy some TOOL 😁🤘
A thing that happens to me viewing your reactions, I get so freaking emotional, 14:57 is one of the most emotional and important outros of my life. God you guys remind me of that. Thank you!
Tool can bring it whenever they like, but this is the one song where they sound truly unleashed. "Triad" is how I'd imagine a descent into Hell would sound like.
To me it was more of the way out of it... like following the progression to crucifying the ego... you have to get out of hell... but now that you say it, it could also be the point on descending to find it and destroy it ...
Of my many times seeing them live, Triad was by far the greatest experience to have seen and heard. They bring on a second percussionist and each person comes into the song one after the other. They also finish the song differently live. You should look for a clean live version from back then. It's even more elaborate with the subtle additions.
@@PaulHilburger hell yeah, there’s a couple of music reactors that I’ve been trying to get to check them out, they deserve way more recognition than they get
Imagine you are laying on your back in a field at dusk on a clear day. Disposition floats you up slowly through the atmosphere and out into space as Reflection then speeds you up through the solar system into deep space where you begin to approach the event horizon of a massive black hole. Triad then carries you through that event horizon and right into the core of that black hole, and where you end up is likely at the beginning of things again.
I used to religiously smoke DMT and listen to Reflection once a month. I would meditate for an hour beforehand then focus my mind on what I wanted to experience and it was nearly universal in rewards. It's been a long time since I've done that but this song helped make me who I am today.
Honestly while the world is going to shit everyone is now tuning into the tool army. Y’all already know but this music is something humanity needs right now. No more drugs, sex, and bs we need enlightenment with thyself. Once we achieve that the love for each other will be effortless.

I’ll never forget her first reaction to Tool (Fear Inoculum track) and what she said immediately after. It truly sums up what Tool is for me and others. She said to him : “I feel like I was at an amusement park and I just got done riding all of the rides”, with a huge cheesy grin on her face. 😁
10:15 at this exact moment Adam comes in with this super subtle background sound. Chick- chicka- chicka chicka chick- it could take 20 listens to notice it, but it's just one of those little things that is brilliant!

When my son was born. I brought him home from hospital and the first piece of music he ever herd was "Disposition, laterals and reflection together. In stereo, between two speakers .. He's a huge Tool fan ,,❤like me
Love your guys reaction. You kept looking at each other saying "right?" Hahaha. Like you were reading eachothers minds. I also like when you predicted there was gonna be a "wave of fuckness" about to happen. Always great reactions to Tool. More please!
Thanks for this perfect classy reaction. What tool really deserves...
The Holy Trinity has arrived!!! Every 3 seconds you say to yourself, wtf?! 😂
Getcha popcorn ready 🍿
A perfect circle Gravity
Greatest insight regarding putting a song down for a few years and coming back. I did that with these songs as a well as Lost Keys and Rosetta Stoned. As I matured so did my appreciation for all these master pieces.
Ps - awesome reaction as always. Such authenticity. 🙏🏻
Thank you 🙏
@@enitaly you’re welcome I hope and the family are safe and well.
The Holy Trinity🙏
20 years ago I heard all three live. I'm a better person because of that experience.
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned.. please.
Never clicked on a video fast enough! Spiral out 🌀🌀🌀
Adam Jones by far my favorite guitar player
Every time I hear these tracks I get shivers in my spine multiple times. The deep meditative trance they put you in by just the sheer awesome musicianship in every measure punctuated with those moments of THEY SOME HOW MADE THE SONGS EVEN BETTER THAN I IMAGINED.
I’ll NEVER pass on an opportunity to listen to this epic :) no requests today, just happy to be here.
The Holy Trinity ALWAYS gives me chills. Love you guys!
This whole montage/collection of songs merge so well! It's just...wait....what!?!? 🤯 Definitely a journey to embrace and experience.
Of course "the almighty TOOL" always delivers. ☺️ Message, meaning, and most definitely an amazing experience.
Thank you Beautiful people! Iv been along for this Tool ride all along and really enjoyed it. God Bless 🙏
I am not exaggerating when I say, Reflection is like a spiritual, out of body experience for me every single time I listen to it
24:23 I'm right with u there my friend.
This a proper reaction to Tool.. maniacal laughter and awe. Raw befuddlement... Tool won the whole music thing long ago....
„I hope it keeps going“ exactly what I feel every time
46&2, stinkfist, eulogy, or flood next!
Thank you!
The best ever!
@@margaritasaloscerdos5 I like that! The song suddenly picks up the pace because you're fighting the final boss of your ego.
Of my many times seeing them live, Triad was by far the greatest experience to have seen and heard. They bring on a second percussionist and each person comes into the song one after the other. They also finish the song differently live. You should look for a clean live version from back then. It's even more elaborate with the subtle additions.
Suggestions for the next poll: H., Eon Blue Apocalypse/The Patient, Flood, 46&2, Opiate. ✌️👊
i think reflection will always be my favorite song of all time. those lyrics are on the level.
The Ocean: Devonian:Nascent
The Ocean: Triassic
The Ocean: Jurassic|Cretaceous
Don’t ask questions, just do it 🤘🏻
@@PaulHilburger hell yeah, there’s a couple of music reactors that I’ve been trying to get to check them out, they deserve way more recognition than they get
Yes just yes!
Best made fan video I've ever seen for Tool. It fits perfect.
You guys do the best reactions! Would like to see you revisit Wings for Marie 1 + 2 with your wife! Keep the Tool videos coming bro
Honestly while the world is going to shit everyone is now tuning into the tool army. Y’all already know but this music is something humanity needs right now. No more drugs, sex, and bs we need enlightenment with thyself. Once we achieve that the love for each other will be effortless.
This is a fantastic Birthday present! Thanks guys!
No, thank you! Happy Birthday!🎈 🍻
Happy birthday 🥳
Happy birthday! 🎁
Happy birthday 🎉!
Thx u both I am sooo envious of u brother, I wish I had someone beside me to share this beauty with, at least I have y'all thx u 2, I genuinely love all ur reactions, thx so much u 2
"Take three years off of [Tool] and come back." Yeah, I can't do that.
Man, watching you guys listen to these gave me flashbacks to one of my first dates I had with my wife. Back in 2012 we bought a copy of Pink Floyd’s (Pulse) live album, went to the park with a couple of beers & didn’t speak (just listened) to the whole 2 CDs
It’s the simple things in life that you value the most 🍺
Pink Floyd Pulse....without words;) just comfortably numb
This was a treat, I watch your old video every so often
I like to watch both off you ,makes my day Tool🎶🎧🥁🎤🎸❤️
I personally feel that Tool is the new Pink Floyd.
I have never heard crisper cleaner guitar noises than in Disposition. So fucking crystal sunlight clean
Love the looks of occasional bewilderment and amazement that all Tool fans know and love so much. Love your reactions. Keep them coming.
Ive always loved the way you let the music flow and dont stop it
Glad to see others are being touched by the light. Enjoy! It's all you from here on out!
You guys are seriously the best!
Keep rocking. 🤘🏻
They played the whole thing in 2001 and 02, Christchurch.
Reflection is such an epic song that I hardly hear. Not a lot of people talk about it but you definitely get lost in that song , I love it 🔥🔥🔥
👍more TooL !!!
I’ll never forget her first reaction to Tool (Fear Inoculum track) and what she said immediately after. It truly sums up what Tool is for me and others. She said to him : “I feel like I was at an amusement park and I just got done riding all of the rides”, with a huge cheesy grin on her face. 😁
Haven’t even watched it yet but this is going to be the greatest video ever
Vektor - Recharging The Void. It will blow your mind. As for the next Tool song, I’d recommend Eulogy.
Still „Forests of Legend“ and „Accelerating Universe“ are the best songs by Vektor, by lightyears.
@@longingbydesign nah lol
Seen them perform this in Indianapolis in 2010 present from my son...great kid
VEKTOR - RECHARGING THE VOID!!! IT IS A MUST-LISTEN
Need more recharging the void comments haha. Spread the word!
The most genuine, for reals, and of course correct , reactions to TOOL... Love your work ...coolest couple on the internet 🤘
So many unique and mysterious sounds, remarkable
I finally get it. Me, my reflection and my disposition are an inseparable triad!!! PRYING OPEN MY THIRD EYE!!!
D Music Life
Reflection is otherworldly
My favourite song of all times
It’s like the music behind the transformation of a star
10:15 at this exact moment Adam comes in with this super subtle background sound. Chick- chicka- chicka chicka chick- it could take 20 listens to notice it, but it's just one of those little things that is brilliant!
