Sometimes it is difficult to tell how hard these guys are hitting it on video. But when you see what looks like a neutral rally ball just sail past Rublev (like Rublev is 50 years old or something), you know that Fonseca is hitting the ball extremely hard.

I have been following João Fonseca ever since he won the US Open Junior in 2023. What amazes me the most is how he seems to be improving after every match, his level of maturity on pressure points is just incredible, I hope he will soon be playing for Master and Grand Slams titles.

Usually I'd shit on Rublev for losing to someone in the first round usually because the reason for the loss would be completely on Rublev. But, this time I feel like Rublev played pretty solid it's just the dude he was playing was crazy.
He definitely has the potential to challenge the current Big 2 in men’s tennis! That was some amazing ball striking skills that he displayed in this match, on a par with what the Big 2 can do. What he’ll need is a very good team around him who can encourage him to always want to improve and continue to work consistently on all facets of his game. To never be complacent but stay hungry and aggressive yet respectful and humble. I really think this kid could be the last player to form the next Big 3 to dominate men’s tennis in the next ten years!
Rublev has so much power but so little control he never puts the opponent into a weak position to finish. Feels like he has no plan. Fonseca equalled his power with well placed shots and that was all it needed to defeat Rublev.
Rublev hits a flat ball. Fonseca was hitting through Rublev on both sides. He made Rublev late on the swing time after time, and if you catch the ball late hitting flat the result is a bad shot, often one that fails to penetrate and sits up to be unloaded-on by the opponent. Fonseca forced a lot of weak shots. Really, really impressive.
