Do you need a PPL in order to fly the C42 and other microlight stuff? Is it cheaper to fly this than a Cessna for example?
Yes you need an NPPL. I believe you can still fly Cessna though! It's around half the price for C42.

How are they to fly they to fly i used fly the PA28 but wouldn't mind a trail lesson with a stick they look rather sparse with the instruments

I bet it's Common to Clench on one's first solo :D
Take it from me, the best ever take of landing you will do, is the first solo one. The aircraft is lighter (one P1 only) and something inside your head tells you "come on, this is what you dreamed of for long, make the most of it" and you will.
How many hours to go solo?
Around 10 to 15
