Absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for sharing. It's like a christmas present. I'd love to do such a flight myself one day. If you dare, can you answer some questions? I presume you fly with a flight plan, any issues with that? How do you find the wave? Do you use Skysight? Or are they easy to find due to the cloud formations? Or do you just have a mountain of experience? What would be the plan if you would really not find the wave at some point? Are there sufficient landing possibilities available? What would you say, what are the key difficulties for such a flight?
Thank you very much, and thank you for great questions! Thant is correct, we always file a flight plan. I also like to call ATC beforehand and clarify our plans. In the air we didn't have any issues, we just had to explain why we aren't able to have the exact heading :) I also always request a block of altitudes, so that I don't have to call every time I get lower. I use skysight for planning all the time. It's an amazing tool! In the air we mostly look at the clouds of course, if the clouds are there. It there are no clouds, we find location of the wave from wind speed and ridge orientation or from SkySight. The planning of outlanding is a big part of the preparation. In weather like this the only safe option is an airport. So we have to be able to reach at least one airfield (that has good weather conditions) at all times. If this is not an option we do fly further. On the coast there is more or less one airfield every 50km. Key difficulties are usually take off (snow on the runway, wet runway...), finding the first wave, having enough clothes for the cold, icing of the canopy (we have to clean the canopy with the credit card)...
Bravo Bernard,ob tvojem uspehu in mojimi kratkimi preletenimi km razmišljam,da je že čas za slovo......vse lepo v novem letu in mirno nebo ti želim! A.K.
So nice to see that you exploit the possibilities, and don't mind the cold - nice to see that it is other places than Norway that can do great, but cold, flights "off season" (yes - gliding is a sommersport....but......:-)))
It’s the middle of summer here in Australia (and has been over 40 degrees Celsius), but this video still makes me feel cold! What an extreme flight! Thank you very much for sharing.
Hi Bernard, my best compliments on your great flight! 4.35 am on christmas day, how great is that 😂😂??!! Thank you also for sharing your impressions with us in this video. It really encourages me to continue to work on that day on which i can join you on such a flight! Really, great appreciation on your flight and thank you very much for this video 🤩🤩👍👍
Thank you very much Rudi! I got the inspiration for the video from your channel😁 For me the earlier I have to wake up, the better the adventure😅 I also hope that you will be able to join us next time!
Yes, it was a car assisted takeoff. Due to snow on the runway we weren't sure if it would be possible to takeoff otherwise... Thank you and I wish all the best in the new year to you too!
Hi, super video, thanks for sharing! I would have as well questions: Was it a self-launch Shark or a sustainer? During take-off, there is a car and rope to be seen, so you did like combined car-tow/self launch? (released somewhere in the mid-field?) You mentioned going at Vne, is it reasonably safe in a wave - thinking of possible turbulence / change of wind direction etc.?
Thank you very much! We were flying a selflauncher Shark. We took off as a self launch, the car just helped us accelerate, we released mid-field. On waves there is usually laminat flow without any turbolence, so flying at vne is resonably safe. When we are lower, we usually fly slower as there are some possibilities of turbolence.
woooow this is amazing, didn't know a non engine could go that far :O Btw, was it cold for you in the cockpit, considering you don't have any heating systems? I guess sun helps a lot but still, sitting inside for so long without any real heat must get cold?
Thanks, yes, it gets very cold in the cockpit, more or less it is the same temperature as outside. When there is sun and we fly slow it is not that bad, but when we fly fast and in shadow it is very cold.
Thank you very much! I'm probably not the best one to make a comparison as I have very little time on both gliders... I haven't noticed any difference in performance, also the handling is very good in both of them.
Congrats! How did you survive without heating, seating still in these conditions? BTW It was horrible turbulence and rotors down there along Velebit up to FL100 I guess. Descending through that mess (if needed) could be catastrophic.
Thanks! We are used to low temperatures like this, so we already know how to prepare. The key is to dress as much as possible, while still being able to move. We are aware of the turbolence there and downdrafts, but I think we shouldn't have a lot of problems with this. In the past we have flown in conditions like this; it's very uncomfortable but manageable.

That was an amazing flight to do in a glider. Well done. I really enjoyed the video. It looked cold at those altitudes tho. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! It really was cold. If it was 50 degrees warmer it would be just warm enough ;)
Great flight!
Thanks!

Thank you very much! And greetings to Nitra, I hope to see you there in the spring😃
@@bernarddobre we too! and i truly wish to have one day chance to fly in postojna, too:) even much shorter, but surely enjoyeable...
This is amazing! Would it be possible to fly to Greece, land and come back some other day?
Yes, this would be possible. We are planning to do this next time.

Great car start assist. What length of rope do you use?
@9:20 you could si strong hits of Bura wind!
Congrats! Great flight!
I have one question. I see you were flying Twin Shark and you've also flown Arcus. How would you compare them?
Thank you very much!
I'm probably not the best one to make a comparison as I have very little time on both gliders... I haven't noticed any difference in performance, also the handling is very good in both of them.
@bernarddobre Thanks anyway and wish you Happy New Year and plenty of flights like this!
No, to pa je bilo božično darilo!
Wow cool 😎 greetifrom a small paraglidee xD😂
I can’t do that, gotten stretch my legs every 3 hours on long-haul flights. Are the bathrooms comfortable?
There are no bathrooms😅
Niceeee.... Hud let

@@bernarddobre What boots did you wear? No electrical heating used?
How do you go to the bathroom if you sit in a small sailplane all day? 😂
We glider pilots use urinals as paraplegic peole do or some of us use daipers or plastic-bags.😎
Lepa :)
Are you on oxygen?
Yes, flying at those altitudes all day would be impossible without oxygen.
cekaj bre iz SLO do MNE ??? i Nazad za SLO ????? its that posible? respect iz Crne Gore
Cool, but you are not flying 1200 km over the Balkans, that's for sure... I mean, maybe distance wise it is 1200 km, but not altitude wise. ☺
Technically we were flying 1300km (80km was with engine) and we were over the Balkans...
