      +Alexandre Esquenet Are you an idiot? It is physically impossible to blow up a nuclear power plant. They're not blowing up bombs in there, the Uranium is a particular ratio of unreactive 238 to reactive 235. The ratio makes it physically impossible for a nuclear power plant to explode. There's a reason they are called *melt downs*.

      Fukushima plant did explode due to over pressure of vapors. It is not a nuclear explosion, but the radiations and side effect is the killer.

    What exactly is fueling this massive fire? The epoxy around the windings? Are they cooled by mineral oil? I don't see why they would have anything that flammable in a high voltage / high current device like this....

    • @paullangford8179
      @paullangford8179 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Paul Zigouras Most likely damage to the insulation in the windings got it started, then started burning. Remember these things do produce a lot of energy in a small space, and the melting (and vaporised) copper, steel and aluminium will make everything around it burn. Oil, floor, anything plastic, aluminium when it's hot enough, glassfibre reinforced plastic, paint. The only stuff left will be things like framework and piping exposed to cooling air flow.

    • @paullangford8179
      @paullangford8179 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's hooked up to an electrical grid. The circuit breakers will let through the same current whether it's outbound or inbound, so shorted windings just become a huge electrical heater. The smoke and stuff is burning plastic, but the heat and sparks are from the electricity.

    So, these things kill birds. Maybe, if birds are blind. Dams kill more fish than these kill birds. By the millions. These things don't occupy much land space, only a few square meters and don't mess with the ecosystem like dams or thermoelectric. They are noise pollution. Maybe. If you live in the mountains in the middle of rocks and forest, because that's where most of them are, where the wind is stronger. Or if you're a wild animal. And they're useless. Right. In 2014, Portugal had 61,5% of all electrical production coming from renewable sources, being 54.8% wind and 6.7% solar. Hydro produced 12.7%, fossil cogeneration produced 10.7% and coal (thermoelectric) produced 6.1%. But yeah, they're useless. A useless way of using endless resources and stay away from pollution.

      Punta Surf Good for you America is so great!! You can keep it and stay on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean along with your 5 liter V12 detroit muscle oil-burning machines for all i care. And your dollar bills that are worth the paper and the ink they're printed on. FYI that turbine was mounted and maintained by the Spanish, it's not ours. What do we do when there's no wind? There is always wind, that's why it works all year round!!

    • @Zeeklerist
      @Zeeklerist 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I got your point. But you could have been a bit more polite on your previous comment, explain yourself differently, less agressive/offensive. You just started a country war for no reason. They do catch fire. How many and for how long to pollute as much as oil rigs that also catch fire? They kill birds. How many, compared to the fish and hundreds of other animals that dams and sea oil rigs kill? How many ecosystems are destroyed by oil infrastructures built on sea and land? How about oil spills? How about all the acres these take, compared to a wind turbine? I'm building my own wind turbine. Most of the videos i watch on youtube are from Americans trying to go offgrid. The largest wind and solar companies are American, for what i've learned. Wind and solar are feasable and sustainable in the U.S.. Why isn't it happening? Lack of political/corporate will because oil plays a big role. They don't want it to happen, it would ruin their business. This is my point of view. Relax and ease your mind buddy. Have a nice week :-)

      Valter Lopes Dont worry about the trolls, they just want attention. But the bird thing is an interesting problem, minor compared to dam's and minor compared to knock on effects from air pollution/green house gas emission caused by fossil fuel plants. Unfortunately troll brains are not designed for multilayered problems. I live in Kansas USA and wind turbines are becoming a quite nice secondary source of income on a lot of our farms, with thought (something else that trolls don't bring to the table) it is quite possible to have effective wind farms and our signature wheat fields. I suspect you noticed that the troll didnt mention the oil spill that BP created in the gulf of Mexico, as far as environmental damage goes that event alone overwhelms all the problems caused by all the wind mills in all the world (some 200 million gallons - 760 million liters!! of crude oil)
      And you are certainly right about our problems getting anything done over in this country. We have a tremendous problem with the wealthy having WAY to much influence on our government. In an incredible fit of stupidity our courts have removed any restraint to the amount of money that corporations can spend to elect politicians (the legal case is referred to as "Citizens United"), this does not bode well for us in general and specially in the environmental field where pay offs (better air, cleaner water, improved balance of payments) are slow to see, expensive in the beginning and generally take more smarts than trolls even realize can exist.
      Glad to hear Portugal is doing so well with alternative energy. Everything I hear out of Europe is showing that you guys are doing great. Saw where Norway has 20% of new car sales all electric vehicles, you guys have tons of things to take well earned pride in
      Oh and do keep in mind that these comment things really do attract generally the worst of the citizens of the USA. I suppose you have some Portugues trolls to, right? take care

    • @Zeeklerist
      @Zeeklerist 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the positive input. Most of the EU and Asian car manufacturers are producing large scale and selling great. The only con so far for electric vehicles is autonomy. They go around 150 miles at full capacity (some more and some less). Good for short distances or city traffic. Eco laws are strict around here. About the trolls... they're everywhere!!

      It might run but not work. Those propellers have ‘ emergency breaks in case the wind goes above the speed limit the generator can handle, just disengage the breaks and the blades will turn, then every thing would go out of wack and the whole tower would be coming down. So, let’s not rush things.

    Warum gibt es da keine Sprinkleranlage?

    • @rippspeck
      @rippspeck 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rainer Lampatzer Schlag mal Förderhöhen, Kavitation und Lageenergie nach. Davon kannst du deine Antwort ableiten. Aber ich versuch's mal: damit die Anlage funktionieren könnte, müsste das Löschwasser oben bei der Turbine in einem Tank bzw. Basin gelagert werden. Insbesondere, wenn es sich um eine klassische Sprinkleranlage handelt, bei der eine Glasmembran durch Hitze zerspringt und das Wasser nur durch Eigengewicht durch die Düsen gedrückt wird. Eine Löschanlage mit Pumpen wäre viel zu aufwändig und würde sich wohl aus ökonomischen Gründen nicht lohnen. Kosten-Nutzen-Rechnung.
      Da saß nicht nur ein einziger Ingenieur bei, der gepennt hat - das ist etablierte Technik. Ich bin zwar kein Ingenieur, weiß; aber, dass eine Löschanlage verbaut worden wäre, wenn sie Sinn ergeben hätte. So eine Turbine kostet ja bekanntlich eine Menge Geld, da haben sich einige Menschen den Kopf zerbrochen, wie man die Investition zu schützen hat.

    • @Lampi_tm
      @Lampi_tm 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also: So wie das racuht kann das nur Öl sein.
      Zu der Menge Geld hätte man mit ein bisschen mehr noch das ölgeschmierte Getriebe durch ein ölloses Getriebe ersetzen können. Oder gleich einen getriebelosen Generator und einen luftgekühlten Transformator.
      Ohne Löscheinrichtungen sind in Deutschland solche Brandlasten nicht zulässig. In Protugal vermutlich auch nicht, aber dort interessiert ich eher niemand für solche Kleinigkeiten.
      Imerhin ist ja niemand zu (Personen)Schaden gekommen.

    • @rippspeck
      @rippspeck 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Look there is no free lunch. Every type of human engineering endeavor has some adverse effects on the environment.
    The reality is that wind generators installed at locations with favorable conditions produce electrical energy reliably and with low environmental damage. This was an electrical fire that spread to the fiberglass skin of the generator. It did not fall and was not catastrophic.
    Wind and photovoltaic energy solutions beat the hell out of natural gas generation from a CO2 generation standpoint not to mention oil or coal powered power plants.
    This planet has a global climate change problem fueled by carbon energy. Wind generators when properly sited are a part of the solution.

    • @IP0Monsturd
      @IP0Monsturd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richard P. Nathhorst Micheal Moore would disagree. Check out his film “Planet of the Humans”. In a nutshell, Green energy is a scam and in some ways dirtier then fossil fuels. The burning windmill for instance is built mostly of fiberglass. Hard if not impossible to recycle after its relatively short lifespan. Solar panels, electric cars, bio fuel generators all are filthy and energy intensive when it comes to their manufacture. Not my words. Those are the findings of far left Michel Moore.

    anchor point for rope a few meters below the fire so rope will not melt , but would need to attatch rope to point before starting work , they had rope for climb but did not bring to front of mill where they had to stand then jump. then wear climbing belts , decend to point and stay there or lower . or use clothes to tie around a mill blade tight maybe tourniquet and decend maybe with arm in clothes loop and loose arm later from low blood flow.

      a way to escape the fire, workers died in such a fire , one jumped other burned , l was thinking of a way out for workers. one way is to use the blades , travel down them using chlothes as rope , twised with torniquet to be tight , but then need a way to hang the body to that . l thought of arm under clothes rope but that is not healthy for the arm.
