Pokémon red and blue with Lavender Town, the original song from those games was so terrifying that people even created Creepypastas. I remember playing that part of the game with my sound off cause it creeped me out so much @@LundyHuntyr
I always used to be beyond terrified of playing this level when I was a kid and this music playing in the background really emphasised the fear I had for this section of the game! I always had to spend what felt like forever to work up the courage to even remotely visit this level, let alone complete it! It still gives me the creeps to this day and I'm a fully grown adult!
I can't agree with this more! I'm going back and replaying all my old favourite games. Even replaying the game 7-8yrs later I can't help but find it so friggin disturbing. It's so creepy and what for😂😭
i’m pretty sure red skies almost exactly like this were a recurring feature of my nightmares as a child… thank fucking god i never played this, i’d be traumatized to this day lmao 😭
There are two levels like that in Goldeneye 64 and both are eerie as hell, the second one is the worst since the fog makes it feel even more grim but every enemy knows your exact location at all times, so it's like you're being hunted down and it scared me shitless for the longest time 😭
theres something primally unnerving about a fast and silent dangerous animal running to get you, even when its on a screen and its only going after your thirdperson avatar. the nearly silent ambience mixed with the black doberman quickly and silently sprinting around the fence is really anxiety inducing it would be less scary if there was a cutscene or a sound and you were told something like "the dog catchers dog is coming! watch out!" but i cant understate how much a lack of a warning or acknowlegement contributes to that strange fear it gives you. i can 1000% see why this would terrify kids so easy
It scared me a bit too but this is actually my favorite level, my favorite part is where Jake rescues his friends and Daisy, I wish we could've seen a fight between Jake and Killer, I've always wanted to see a fight between them but I did like it when Jake growled at him and ran away and never came 🔙
Dog pound looks like hell! xD Red sky, scary music, crows at the ready...yep this part was scariest for me, espeacially the sick thought of dogs being slaughtered to cat food! Who else agrees? o.O
I loved this game when I was 9 back in 2004. I rented it from Blockbuster Countless times and it is rated T here in the US. When I got to the Dog Pound Level, I got so scared I brought my older brother (18) in for comfort. He asked me what had happened to the game. I started to cry and he took over for me and beat the game. The ending when Ms Peaches got murdered and made into cat food, I was in denial about it. My older brother kept insisting that that is what happened and he was shocked. Then laughed saying this game is crazy. Nowadays we discuss this game and how much of a mess it is. We also laugh.
When I played this game way back in 2004-2005, my 5-year-old self obviously couldn't hold this final part for long, it was soooo much creepy and completely fell out of place for a game directed to kids, but now in hindsight, it actually shows the true cruelty though Jake's eyes of what the game's antagonist Miss Peaches and her henchmen (maybe even unbeknownst to Dwayne or the other one) were doing in the factory by mercilessly slaughtering dogs that weren't even theirs (they got collars still) and grinding them into cat food only for their own selfish evil gain, very reminiscent of Cruella De Vil from the 101 Dalmatians. Gotta say it's a really heavy theme for a game that was rated as fucking 3+ in Europe lol, not to mention the lack of music inside the factory which makes it even more unsettling, and all the saw blades throughout the factory are covered in fucking BLOOD wtf, and the way the machine narrates Miss Peaches' demise is kinda disturbing too, with the images of her head being smashed and sliced... oh man, if I had seen that shit as a kid I would've been traumatized lol. Like, no actual violence is shown, but in my opinion it's implicit violence because clearly kids can piece the missing parts in their heads :S, imagine toddlers seeing that shit. Reminds me of those side missions in GTA 3 where the dog food company's owner would push humans into the grinder to make dog food, even relatives and people he perceived as his enemies, truly dark and macabre stuff. Now for the actual presentation, it's so amazing and a shame that Frontier never developed actual horror or survival horror games, they knew how to get all the elements right, the music, ambience, creepy sounds (like from the crow, and distant growlings), the dog catcher and his doberman menancingly chasing Jake is pretty terrifying too. If I'm not mistaken, this final part of Dog's Life is what inspired those Caelid landscapes in Elden Ring.
LOVED THIS GAME!! Still own it today! hahaha Although... That Dog Pound.. IT gives me the creeps, still, to this day! The music... is sooooo creepy... The sky is blood red... MS PEACHES IS TURNING DOGS INTO CATFOOD! This game is so creepy and eerie yet awesome! The worst thing about it was the times the dog catcher chases you! OR when you have to collect the keys at the end and free the other dogs!

OK, you get the greyhound, run around the building underneath him barking, then when you get to the end run around, up the steps and grab the bag. Simple.
I don't understand why is this part so scary.I mean what's with the music and all it'a dog pound.I mean i sounded like he was in the graveyard or something.
I've had this game as a little kid and I still have it today! The dog pound scene was very ominous and the music with it was too! But it didn't freak me out.
Here because my girlfriend showed me a TikTok with the picture of this game and a creepy audio clip and asked where this music would come from(she's played a bit of the game before because I grabbed a copy from disc replay) and I instantly said this level xD so happy to see this game getting so much attention so many years later.

He said FoxHOUND. And on the radio (inside the farmhouse) he says it's called Sadie. Jake is a foxhound so he obviously did have two dogs- or maybe the pug is a stray.
I agree. It's like how in some cartoons how with sometimes the creators would call some animals alligators when they look like crocodiles. Or some toads when they look like frogs. A pug also has a curly tail.
