From a former ski instructor and guide in riksgränsen, i wish to give some complimentary info. The resort caters to advanced skiers, the groomed runs are few and far between. Otherwise, the light conditions can be treterous. With flat light and no trees, it is best described as skiing in a milk carton. Despite all this, it is one of my favourite places on earth. With the close proximity to the norwegian fjords, it is a ski tourers dream. Although, you need a car to be able to get to it. There are also some very nice big mountain runs almost inbound of the resort, such as norddalsfjället, where the scandinavian big mountain championship is hosted in may every year. It is a 30 min bootpack from the resort.
Kukisvumchorr ski area, 1/2 hour by bus from Kirovsk, Murmanskaya oblast, Russia, in the Hibiny mountains, above the arctic circle, is excellent. It has four Poma ski lifts , several rope tow lifts, and a day lodge with cafeteria. It’s excellent for families with children.
