  • Dagan checks out the MIGHTY Gretsch G5222 Electromatic Double Jet in Aged Natural, which he unintentionally recorded on the 4 year anniversary of the passing of Malcolm Young, not this release, just the actual recording, which I've just noticed typing this now, RIP Mal... This guitar is just stunning, old school Gretsch looks, feel, tone and vibe, and it won't bust the bank!

The all-new G5222 Electromatic Double Jet BT V-Stoptail delivers Broad'Tron power with classic Jet clarity.
At the heart of each Electromatic Jet is a chambered mahogany body with maple top that produces a rich, present mid-range that accentuates big lows and shimmering highs.
A pair of Black Top Broad'Tron pickups drive the chambered mahogany body with maple top through thick, aggressive overdrive while maintaining astounding definition and note balance suitable for the most pristine clean tone.
The Electromatic Jet is equipped with essential features that give you complete tonal control. The combination of individual pickup volume controls, master tone and master volume with treble bleed circuit provides intuitive global control over your pickup and tone settings.

I went into my guitar shop looking for a les paul style guitar... The guy there asked if I ever played a Gretsch, handed me this guitar and I bought it straight away. Ive had it over a year and I play everything on it. From Tool to Metallica to Pearl Jam and Rage Against the Machine. Its an awesome guitar. Can't recommend it highly enough and the colour just makes it recognisable straight away to everyone.

Same here.. Today i was looking for a Les Paul Standard, tried 4 of the and no one was in my opinion the 2400+ swissfrancs worth.. Played the Gretsch 5 minutes and the magic happend..

@noochie1981 Hey just to clarify this thing can handle thrash metal? Like it doesn't sound weird and is only passable but sounds good ?

@@milotin2755 sorry mate , I'm not really into thrash metal so I don't play it. Don't want to give you any false info . Any chance you could try it out at your local shop? If you have the right amp and pedals I'm guessing any guitar can play thrash. But I think this is more suited to rock .... Hardest I've tried to play is Slipknot I guess off the top of my head , I have other guitars with emgs or Seymour Duncan pickups to use if it didn't sound right on the Gretsch. It's a nice guitar to play , bit heavier in weight like a Les Paul.
      Hope that helps

I got this back in may..it plays and feels like it should have cost double the price. It needed no set up. Action intonation spot on. Nice frets no sharp ends.. was going to change the pickups but there was no need.. it’s a stunning guitar and even though I have some more expensive guitars this is my go to. If you’re on the fence just go buy one.. you won’t regret it

I love mine. Your comment about the middle position using a clean amp is so true. I find I can get early George Harrison sounds with that combo. Sweet and ringing. I put 12s on mine with a wound G string (needed a slight truss adjustment to handle the higher tension, as you would expect). Now it is a tone beast!! Love it for Highway to Hell, Rock or Bust, and Shake a Leg!

I went into Guitar Center to pick up some strings, they had a GC Exclusive Jet on the wall in seafoam green. One step above this model I think, with the Blacktop Filtertrons and a trapeze tailpiece. Pulled it off the wall just for kicks, fell in love with it immediately despite the fact it was a damaged floor model. The bonehead on the floor refused to cut me a deal on it, because it was already on sale and he didn't have authority to discount the damaged floor model. Long story short, I raised a stink, and now a month later it's sitting in my music room, damage and all, discounted from the initial sale price, and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's fast becoming one of my favorite guitars, and sounds so different from the slew of Les Pauls and Teles I have.

QUESTION: What's the difference between the Gretsch G5222 and G5220, if any, hardware wise? One's a single cut the other is a double but is that the only difference?

    • @Mr-Safology
      @Mr-Safology 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

G5222 has the newer broadtron pickups. I played the g5220, found it a bit heavier, it's single cut, and it's slightly darker pickups. It could just be me. The g5222, I don't play it before buying it (lockdown), I'm glad I bought it blind buy. Perfectly set up, I've never bought a guitar that didn't need setting up. G5222 out of the box, perfect. Just needed a bit of lemon oil on the fretboard and new 10s strings. Pickups were dusty, quick wipe down with a brush and it was 👌🏼. To be honest, it's very easy and fun to play with the g5222, it could be because of the shape. Bluesy bends past the 15th frets are easier, compared to a Les Paul style guitar. Trust me, you will love the double cut. For the price, which has gone up in price since I bought it, is worth every penny. In fact, more. I've bought a strat for the same price, and the quality of gretsch is unbeatable. Fender owns Gretsch, but the quality control service is on par, actually better, compared with Fender higher end Mexican squier/ American fenders. Hope I've helped.

playing a Malcolm Young guitar, with the mic on a Boss Katana that's sitting on top of a Marshall cab? literally the definition of blasphemy

It sounds fine but tone is subjective. There's no rules in music.

I love Gretsch guitars , and I appreciate ACDC, but can Malcolm, with all due respect, be the best rhythm guitarist when he played the same song for 40-some years?

Yes, he is the best. Tell me somebody who is that limited to a guitar, cable and marshall amp and keeps the rhythm like he does it

would've loved to have heard that guitar through a real Marshall amp ... the Boss sounds like a box o' bees (-:

A Marshall origin or plexi studio should have been greater. More opened and hairy. Too much gain here... too compressed.

The thumbnail inlays suck. The originals were much better.
