The pay increase is total BS. Each member of Congress has a hefty budget to cover many things they will never have to pay for out of pocket. They aren’t business owners deciding to take more pay, so, voting on their own pay raise is friggin’ grotesque. I can’t do that at my job, why should they? Also, if congress has the audacity to actually threaten to cut benefits for literally ANYONE, they should also take a pay cut. No one should be going into government to increase their personal wealth. If Congress ultimately shuts down the government, they should go without pay until they figure it out. Do that and they’ll figure it out REALLY fast. Until then, I haven’t a shred of sympathy for an of them not being able to survive on $200,000 a year. That’s four times more than the majority of middle America. They need to deal with reality and stop acting like whiny little babies.

But now she's just baggage, and it's a shame her constituents AND the Democratic leaders didn't rally round one of her THREE primary opponents.
Its an interesting decision, insofar as it reveals that, even though AOC has lost much of her edge, and is willing to play ball with corporate dems (promising that kamala would end the gaza war and ending endorsements of candidates in the primaries), that just isnt enough for Pelosi. I recommend ryan grims book on the squad. He interviews former AOC staffers and they discuss how there was a big crises when AOC came to congress, as to whether to submit to leadership, or remain true to her beliefs and values. Some of her staffers tried to convince her that, due to the way she came to power being offensive to dem leadership, nothing would ever be enough for them. But she didnt believe that, and here we are.
Remember the 2016 primaries?Establishment corporatist dems chose the right over the left literally every time. This isn’t new. Edit: this isn’t even a Democratic Party phenomenon. This is a liberal phenomenon. Look at what’s happening in France right now. The left coalition won the election, and macron has appointed 2 conservative prime ministers that stay in power with support from the far right. Liberals in power would rather have a far right extremist government opposed to an actual left leaning government.
It is beyond exasperating to hear a Dem state their preference for someone who is "a young 74, cancer not withstanding." Talk about not understanding the moment. I'm 61 and this is infuriating. Love AOC. Terrible, potentially very costly blunder.
I am a 74 year old, lifelong Democrat and former Pelosi admirer. I am totally disgusted with the geriatric hold on the Democratic party. Pelosi was also behind keeping Diane Feinstein in her seat while she was dealing with health issues/dementia. Feinstein was being wheeled around by Pelosi’s daughter in Capital Hill. There were calls for Feinstein to step down so that Gov Newsome could appoint someone else in her place who would be a progressive (Barbara Lee). But Pelosi wanted Adam Schiff in that seat and angled to get him in there over a progressive.

I'm a left-independent voter. Party ID for Democrats has slipped below independents and Republicans. Granted he lost, but Nebraska candidate Dan Osborn outpaced Harris as a pro-worker independent, and Mike Duggan is running for MI Governor as an independent. The party seems to be trapped in its old ways, and it is looking like they could really risk just rerunning the same mistakes they've been making for years now. It's a choice, and no one is making them do this. The idea that it's either seniority or money that will influence leadership is a false dichotomy, no one is making them cast their vote the way they are.
A lot of emails that I get that want money, they offer a poll, I wanna take the poll. So I do it and then they won’t let me submit it unless I donate, so I just exit. The democrats should organize a polling platform, offered to people who are registered democrats should be polled frequently, with an option to donate, but not a requirement. It’s a great way to actually know what the democratic base want
I do the same thing,I'll answer the poll and soon as I see that "submit and donate" I'm out. I guess they really don't care about your answers, they just want the donation. 🤔
Those are bad polls because the respondents are self-selecting and it excludes people who can’t spare the money to donate or just don’t want to, so the results skew towards wealthier people’s opinions. You should look for polling organizations which are used by respected political journalists and reporters; sometimes they’ll be mentioned by channels like PBS NewsHour (“Politics Monday”) or the FiveThirtyEight podcast.
@ YUP! For real, and their priorities of money first are seen very clearly in their lackluster responses to the CEO killing, their lack of effort in listening to young people, and their failure to elevate AOC just recently
As an aside, is it true you have a direct vested economic interest in there NOT being a single payer medical system, supporting a PAC that instead seeks a system that still has private medical insurance for the delivery of primary health care? If so, I don't see how you can ever comment on the topic of healthcare and fail to disclose that obvious bias. Truly, barf. It's fascinating to me how Democrats or progressives can argue that we can't do a single-payer system in this country, when that is literally the business model for the remainder of the world. They've all figured that out regardless of politics, regardless of it being a democracy, socialism or even dictatorships NEXT.

does anyone else think maybe this a good thing, in that it positions AOC (and the younger, left wing of the party) as in opposition to the establishment democrats? this could be good for setting up a "change candidate" in 2028, where a younger, charismatic democrat could run on the left without seeming like a part of the democratic status quo. idk, maybe it's just better to get younger people in now (and I think AOC is incredible), but it's something to think about
@@chrisocony Huh? Why Not? Hilary Clinton & Kamala Harris were both establishment Democrats who lost because their politics didn't galvanize voters. There has always been massive enthusiasm behind AOC.
nah, she's vocally opposed to the party line enough that she does not need to be kept in place in order to be considered outside of the inner circle. So long as she stays vocal and consistent about her positions she'd be fine. All this does is limit her power and show how cooked the establishment Dems are. There really isn't a bright side. She could have done so much for the party if she was the one with the megaphone.
Maybe the corporate media should just not cover anything Trump says or does at all. If they never say anything about him, how can he sue them for what they say. Or they could just say a minimum and fail to show any clips of him. That would be even better, since he loves to see himself on TV. They could be clever enough to find ways to negate his power and importance.
I have great respect for Pelosi and Connolly. However, their contribution would better serve the democrats by mentoring younger dems, rather than being in charge. Connolly should be supporting AOC not running against her. This was a huge mistake on the dems part.

People arguing from the right are always using this language like Muñoz just said you get “shot at” for talking about enforcement at the border. No you don’t - you are not actually facing violence. Why are all these immigrants coming to the border now? Because they are actually facing violence. And she acknowledges it’s only going to get worse because of climate change. Because of factors that the US played a key role in and has a responsibility to address that are pushing people, displacing people from their homes. I work with children in this very situation. Shouldn’t we be asking about the humanitarian situation instead of focusing on this law and order narrative. It’s always just going to be a band aid - but worse, a brutal violent crackdown against people who are fleeing from danger, extreme poverty, certain death. This will never end until we address- through diplomacy mind you, not militarily, the root causes of migration. We have a responsibility to these countries that our own government toyed with and destabilized in the first place. We on the LEFT have been forced into this defensive posture because it is oh so clear these people - immigrants - are being unjustly demonized and scapegoated. What choice do we have but to try to at least change the tone and the narrative around these people. We are talking about innocent children and families.

AOC will ALWAYS be the better choice. Shame on the dems👎😤
Meh. She's also a sell-out. "The genocide can wait! We have an election!" Go eff yourself.

She hasn't co sponsored a single piece of legistlation in 5 years. I like AOC but let's not pretend she's the second coming just because the under 30 set love her. Politics isn't a reality show.
NOT supporting AOC for heading up the Oversight Committee was a HUGE mistake. Pelosi blew it here. Did Pelosi not read how the majority of American voters really LIKE her AND Trump. AOC's communication skills are EXTRAORDINARY!
They do not care. They will never forgive her for her backstory and taking the spot of one of the establishment. It’s all a game for them centered around retaining establishment power.

‘Failed’? No. They used to do very, very well. What they need to recognize is that this is no longer their time, and they need to step aside for younger people.
@naylas3908 They started off in a period when the GOP could be dealt with like a sane party. As such their skills are in negotiating quiet backroom compromise deals, then strongarming their party to follow that line, not in the current partisan warfare. The problem is admitting that means they need to let others better suited means surrendering all their authority, so easier just to pretend the GOP will get sane tomorrow, and they just need to wait things out.
Do dems want their base to sit out or vote 3rd party in even greater numbers in 2026? Because this is how you do that.

Pelosi lost it when she didn’t demand a primary immediately.
She's selfish, and her ego's as big as the San Francisco Bay. I vaguely remember admiring her at one time--LOVED when she tore up Trump's speech for all the world to see!

But this utterly ridiculous move from Pelosi is so infuriating to me that it is actually upsetting me to watch you being jovial in intro. I think it’s extremely important that dems and their proxies take note of how seriously angry many of us are at their feckless leadership.
I'd like to see you guys involve someone with different perspective. Someone brown, someone black, someone blue collar. You guys, love you dearly, but we need other voices to attract other voters
Don't forget rep Loudermilk was the congress member who was giving tours of the capital - to interested parties on Jan 4 and 5 .
MEDICARE FOR ALL!
doesn’t poll well enough
@@blackout07blue TH-cam doesn't reach a majority of anyone.
Sounds like a TH-cam problem.
Democrats making the law: “only if your above the age of 80, made less than 30k in you’re entire life, and only for very specific treatments or medicine. Oh and you can’t own property or you don’t qualify”
or at least buy in program when 60 plus. Some sort of hybrid program would be good.
We are talking about innocent children and families.
no cares wt bad is happening in Venezuela and that doesn't give you the right to invade America illegally and claim a bogus asylum ...if that is the standard for asylum then the entire 3rd world should just immigrate to US which is f'ing stupid
