The “300” rule is an excellent one too Brody (although I go 250 depending on the instruments I use). Anything that’s NOT bass kick or 808 goes above 300Hz (250Hz on some snares for phatness and some 808 harmonics).
This is such a great video. I've been struggling to get my beats to sound good. This really helped me take beat making much more seriously. Your teaching style is amazing.
Fina-frickin-ly! I’ve been looking for this video for so long. So many producers use all this jargon (which is ok for pro’s but not beginners) and say you need this plug in and that plug in but here’s a brother who puts it so damn simply that a simpleton like myself can understand what you’re talking about. Thank you so much brother! Subbed for sure and saved this vid to my music files for later reference!
Brother Jamaal, I watched this video this morning when I woke up and it really lit a fire under me. I don’t do hip hop music most of the time myself (I’m currently doing an industrial music/EBM project) but the principles are the same and I am going to keep this methodology in mind when I sit down to do remixes this weekend. Peace.
This video is exactly what I needed. My brain translated this to 2k myplayer lol. So you aim for a -6 to -3 db master. That’s ur 99 overall. And you stack ur track db like skill points to get in that range. It All makes sense to me now.
What’s up love the video I’m wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing info on who does your graphic design I’m looking for someone to bring an idea I have for my label to life thanks
@@JamaalAbiade I never seen the “Hard Pan” approach on the master channel before, I’m gonna test that out. I usually put the gain plugin in on the master and toggle mono and listen to the mix like that.
Thank you! BRAH Many blessings on your future Endeavors because you really helped me with this honest Tutorial from Brooklyn to Michigan you done again. 👍
i think the most important thing in this video is to start with the main melody my brother ! realy important..... because when i dont start with the melody first my kick is way too loud at the end. but when i lvl the melody first and than kick, snare, hh, bass,.... than its gonna translate well - mixing into THE GOD PARTICLE by JJ . whats your thoughts on that ?
I tell people this all the time, sound selection is key. As long as you start with some fire sounds then your good to go. Also its better to buy high quality samples or find some that havent been r -uploaded a thousand times as they loose harmonics and punch after while.
@@JamaalAbiade If I’m ripping a sample directly from a vinyl record, how do I ensure the sound has the quality I need from the start? I appreciate the response 🙏🏽
@@JamaalAbiade its more people in my college and stuff bro. I have seen a couple of tutorials saying that but the idea is you use a gain plugin (eg utility in Ableton) to set ur levels as well as keep the integrity of the sound then after you have gainstaged everything you then use the faders cause it ensures that no individual track is distorted or clipping whereas if you use the faders on a signal that may not be totally clean then you could be turning down an already distorted sound or even on a smaller level if you know its not distorting it makes each individual sound just a tad cleaner but as they say It really is each to their own and ur a much better producer than I am so who knows.
I had some confusion understanding this concept. I would watch a tutorial saying something about using the gain plugin or the gain in the inspector, over using the faders, whereas others said theres no difference. These kind of things really slow down progress right? What I do now is use the gain plugin/option when in the initial producing stage to make sure nothing is clipping coming in. That said, I rarely need to do this if I select good sounding instruments. It's normally for like live recorded samples and such, or plugins that are really loud like some synths. And then i normally just use the volume on the plugin if it has one before even looking at it in the DAW. I'm guessing once you have balanced the volumes correctly initially, then there's no need to fix it further with gain. Another time to use gain plugins over faders, is maybe when someone else sends over stems and they haven't sorted the volumes before hand. I'm totally going of personal experience and what I have gathered while trying to learn. I can produce quite well now, but I'm still trying to learn the mixing and mastering side of things. Hope this helps bro, keep on keeping on!
yes and no / i teach a method/technique. my style focus are drums as does genres like rap, pop, rnb, edm, dubstep. this tutorial shows you how to layers a beat together no matter the genre
I like the simplicity but would professionals agree with this or consider this amateur? I’ve watched many tutorials where they make it super complicated which I hate. But maybe it needs to be complicated for best results .
this is for beginners, there is more i do to my mix personally but most people dont know how to properly level. So i compare it to trying to dunk a basketball without learning how to dribble first.

Great tutorial! Love the beat too. It has a 90s house party feel
Do you put 808 in mono or stereo like cause it’s seems like you just put the gain in mono and not the actual audio track in mono as well
