    Prince is our Mozart, he mastered over 14 instruments by age 17, he could dance, sing any note, rap, he wrote, arranged, performed ALL his music, including wrote hits for other artists, he has covered almost every genre, Metal, Punk rock, hip hop, pop, r&b, soul, jazz, blues, country, ambience, classical, tehcno, house, instrumental. The Multi-Genre God. He could play anything, and your favorite artists have been deeply influenced by him. Corey Taylor, Whitney Houston, Steve Vai, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Lil uzi vert, H.E.R. , Paul Mccartney, all worship Prince to just name a few.
    Prince recorded his first 2 albums at 16 all by himself, all instruments, lyrics, arrangement, composition & vocals were all by him. He was such a prodigy, that music executives wanted proof, they would fly across country just to see if he could really play all instruments, because it was so unheard of. Prince has over 50 official released albums and when he passed, they found over 10 thousand unreleased Prince music in his vault. He then came into the business and was the FIRST to fight for artists rights, and he WON. He would write "slave" on his cheek and go to meetings protesting against the industry. Prince was also the first artist to sell his music on the internet. You are talking about the most talented artist we will ever see.

    To elaborate on the Content Warning Story, a mother bought this album for her daughter, didn't look into any details, and then was appalled at the song Darling Nikki. That lady was Tipper Gore, and she and a bunch of other concerned mothers formed a group and went to congress to have some kind of Law. This was the same time rock and metal was being demonized in gerenal. Same generation. Frank Zappa, the guy from Twisted Sister (the I Wanna Rock/Goofy Goober song, and We're Not Gonna Take It) both spoke in court against it, as well as others. Once it passed, Frank Zappa in protest or anger put out an Instrumental Jazz Album that had the Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics sticker on it, despite the entire album having no lyrics at all. There are a lot of Videos on YT about this time.

    This album is pop perfection at its finest. Some people usually call Sign o' The Times Prince's magnum opus, which is an absolutely amazing album and I can see why, but I think this one is more fitting for that title.
    You should also check out 1999, Around The World In A Day and The Gold Experience, which I find to be other three of his most solid works. Also worth listening to is his sophomore self-titled album Prince, which is his very first multi-platinum selling album released in 1979.

    The Purple Rain (song) story was that he wrote it and felt that it was WAY too much like Faithfully by Journey.
    Prince contacted Jonathan Cain (keyboard player and writer of Faithfully) and invited him over to his house to listen to it. John felt that, yes it was a bit like Faithfully, but the song was so beautiful that he had to put it on the album and gave Prince his blessing to go ahead and use it because the world needs to hear this song.
    When Prince went on tour for Purple Rain, he sent Jonathan and his family front row tickets to his show

    I was on a date this past weekend, we just chose a random restaurant and there happened to be a band playing just outside. Because I apparently live under a rock, I've never heard purple rain (the song), and they closed on a cover of it, and when I tell you it was one of the best musical experiences I've ever had I'm not kidding. I wish I found Prince when he was still alive, but hearing any live version of THAT song performed as well as they did it has really got me intrigued in his music.

Up to that point, my family only listened to southern hip-hop, so I had never listened to anything outside of those genres. To this day, Prince is my favorite artist because of this album. And then he did the soundtrack for that one Batman movie, and it was a wrap for me. I was a life-long fan after that... My first job was running a record store for an owner who was obsessed with Prince, so I got to listen to a ton of his leaked demos and see a bunch of memorabilia. All this to say, Prince and "Purple Rain" specifically, played a huge part in my musical journey.

    • @Komaesa
      @Komaesa ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The reason for that is because Prince during his life was super protective of his rights over his music and didn't like them being licensed or used without his permission in nearly any context. It wasn't necessarily a 'money' issue (he actually actively sabotaged himself from making more money by doing this on dozens of occasions), it was more a principle about maintaining control of his property; he had this extremely public, years-long dispute with his record label in the 90s and it made him viciously paranoid about contracts & record labels for the rest of his life.
      So, TH-cam was another place that he didn't like his music being posted because someone else was essentially profiting off his property. As you get more into Prince, you'll start to see that pretty much 95% of the videos with his music or old concert footage were posted within the last 7 years (post-death), even on the official Prince TH-cam channel.
      It's very unfortunate because I believe that it's definitely hurt his impact on younger millennials and Gen Z who could only really get into his music if their parents already had his vinyls or CDs, and since being added onto Spotify again, he's only managed to pull 1/3rd of the monthly listeners that many of his 80's contemporaries have, but I'm glad that his estate is trying their hardest to get his music back out there and preserve his legacy.

      Yeah it's great that we all like different genres. While I can recognize the artistry and like a lot of Bob Dylan and Radiohead songs, some of them just bore me to death and sometimes I prefer "vapid" music like Prince, Eminem, Daft Punk. Don't get me wrong, I love all different kinds of music, but music is 100% subjective and that's what makes it so amazing.

    This and Mic The Snares Prince Deep Discog Dive are amazing videos on a truly unique talent. It makes sense that there was tension/rivalry between the Prince and MJ camps, because Prince had that much talent, that he was able to measure up to him, and perhaps more. He was like if MJ, James Brown and Hendrix had a baby, honestly, and then some imo

      I sent him songs off those albums on his requests streams (though, unfortunately, copyright took them down so I can't link it) as I worked my way towards sending this album.
      He wasn't too impressed with "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad" until he got to the latter half/guitar solo (he just thought it was mostly mid), he thought "Dirty Mind" was funky as hell, he liked "Sexuality" more than I thought he would, and he gave "1999" a 10. I didn't send anything off "For You" yet, but that might be an interesting submission at the very end so he can see where Prince started so I plan on it.
