Honestly, Ziggy is the perfect album, it tells a story that's interesting, it's short, it has no bad songs on it, it flows cohesively and is also made by one of the true greats of Rock music.

The way Bowie screams in agony the final words of the opening song 'Five Years' blew me away the very first time I ever heard it. As emotional as any lyrics I've ever heard.
Rock and roll suicide never fails to give me that misery hug during my worst moments. It really sounds like a friend to me at this point and if I ever do decide to end it, it'll be with that song.

Controversial opinion but Lady Stardust is actually my fav song on this album, its such a beautiful arrangement on piano and his vocal performance is absolutely Stellar

Lou Reed dying was the first time I thought, "Oh god, it's beginning [my faves passing on]." And I said to my husband I would be similarly heartbroken when Bowie died and it came just 3 years after. I still think about it and, like you, I can't believe he's gone, though it's obviously an inevitable part of existence.
Much of Bowies works are really underrated or just went under the radar after the 80s. He also put out a TON of albums, and I listened to all of them 😌. I personally love his 90s stuff, black tie white noise, earthling, and outside are amazing.
Unfortunately, all his (brilliant) 90s albums were collateral damage of his 80s media overexposure... Too bad for Outside, Earthling and the Buddha of Suburbia : this 'trilogy' is just amazing, and largely on par with Ziggy Stardust, STS or anything he's done in the 70s...

I would highly highly highly highly recommend giving “station to station” by David Bowie a listen. It’s my person favorite Bowie album. Every song is amazing especially the ten minute title track that is one of the finest pieces of music I’ve heard.

I absolutely love David Bowie, so it's nice to see you listen to him and be as moved as I was when I first heard this album! I highly recommend his 1980 album Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps), specifically the song Ashes to Ashes, and also OK Computer, Kid A, or In Rainbows by Radiohead

I agree with your list, I would add Heathen and the A side of Diamond Dogs which is my favorite of Bowie’s work in glam rock (B side not so much). I also really like Black Tie White Noise, but I wouldn’t call it great.
I don't want to type out my entire tier list, but I think Lodger, Outside, and Scary Monsters are all some of his best work. Teenage Wildlife is such a perfect interpolation of Heroes; it's the closest he ever got to prog rock IMO

I’ve done it for Bowie, Bob Dylan, and Prince. I’m currently working on Stevie Wonder, Parliment/Funkadelic, Miles Davis, and Frank Zappa. I’m a bit exhausted.
I think if you give this album another listen or two it might move up to a 10 for you. Bowie's music has a way of sneaking up and growing on you, more than any other artist I've experienced
Some things about some of the songs from this album; Five Years was written about a nightmare Bowie had where his late father came up to him and told him he only has five years left to live, and to never fly a plane (Bowie had a fear of planes for around a decade following this.) At the end of the recording, Bowie is actually crying (it was recorded in one take). I remember it being five years since Bowie had died when I found this song. It felt so personal, I immediately felt the need to search through the rest of his catalogue.
Hey Brad, Ziggy Stardust inspired some MCR Black Parade songs. Also Queen and some other bands like KISS with "Detroit Rock City" on "House of Wolves" it's a clear influence.

Been meaning to listen to David Bowie. I try to listen to everything. My goal in life is to at least listen to most classic pre-2000. I remember when I got into Black Sabbath a few years ago. So amazing discovering it for the first time. I'd never properly sat down to listen. And people say "How have you not listened to Bowie!" especially here in the UK. And I find out many times, what people mean is they know 5 songs max and love them. But they wouldn't know what album the songs were on or the year it was released. So when I get into music, I actually try to listen to the entire albums multiple times, read stuff about it, read lyrics, etc. I really dive into music. So within 2 weeks I already know Bowie than most people who claim to be fans lol. So many casual music listeners out there. They have no idea how much they're missing out. Sometimes the same song they've always listened to is deeper than they thought. No effort to try to understand the art. Just background noise to most. So sad.

Oh!!! Bowie's way of creating the lyrics through words in magazines is a dadaist practice. The dadaists also wrote the song 'I Zimbra' which Talking Heads covered in their 'Fear of Music' album. Bowie and Byrne seem to have the fine art knowledge down.
My first time hearing 5 years, I was absolutely blown away. I’m 25 and my parents weren’t ever big into Bowie, so I ended up finding this album on my own. But it’s one of those songs that I know exactly where I was when I first listened to it. Hope you get to react to Aladdin Sane or Hunky Dory soon.
I really love this album a lot as a whole experience, Bowie dominated my life and still pulls me back in on occasions although Radiohead have taken over for now. Quite a few parties have been energised by Bowie as to this day he's still a really cool icon. The album to me is a high energy burst and then the comedown in Rock n Roll sui leaving us with the message 'we're young and not alone' before Ziggy went away. I miss Bowie a lot and I wish I found him before he passed because now he's left a gaping hole that no one I can think of can fill.
This album came out in 1972!!. I find it impressive that its still pretty pleasant to the ears today. It must’ve been a whole new experience listening to this back then

"Low" was much more inventive and influencing than Ziggy. In terms of his classic albums i feel like "Station To Station" is his most-well produced and the most beautiful album. "Space Oddity" is his another masterpiece released before Ziggy, so it would be good to check this one out while you're in his late 60/early 70s era. I love the energy and creartivity of "Scary Monsters". "The Next Day" is so underrated, it's from 2013, so thst would be a good album to react to before and if you do "Blsckstar"

This is coming from a man who listens to a lot of albums but hasn't fully listened to all older music. I've listened to 2 Beatles albums lol. Ik this has nothing to do with the video but there’s this band that I’ve listened to for a long time. They’re called Can’t Bear This Party, and I honestly just want anyone that sees this comment to check them out. I suggest listening to their album Ain’t No Princess Down Here first. Their Modern Factory EP is also good, but I don’t think anything else can top their later album.
I don’t want to sound like one of “those guys”, but you have to be a bit mindful buying Bowie vinyl. A lot of the original US releases were pressed on DynaFlex which arguably isn’t as high quality as thicker vinyl from abroad/Europe or from later re-releases. It’s not necessarily “worse” per se, but DynaFlex is notorious for quality issues, noise, sound bleed, etc on account of the thinner material.
I highly recommend its brother album, hunky dory. Despite both of them having different vibes, they were written at the same time and I sincerely prefer hunky dory over ziggy. Great stuff
The album is a concept album so from the first track to the last it should be listened to as though Bowie is narrating a story to you where each song is connected. The song 5 years was influenced by the book "On the Beach" which tells the story of what happens after a nuclear war and Australia is the only country that survives. Unfortunately the inhabitants of Australia know that they've only got 5 years of life left before the nuclear cloud or radiation reaches them and kills them all. The "cut up" style of Bowie's lyric writing was actually created by the queer American author William S Burroughs and Canadian artist Bryon Gyson whom Bowie was a great fan of. Hope you do "Hunky Dory" and "Outside"
for me the drums in five years make me feel the desolation on the lyrics, it's like the feeling when everything is falling apart and you are resting for some seconds while every single thing that made you to this point is laying on your thoughts I can't explain it but yeah

This album came out in 1972!!. I find it impressive that its still pretty pleasant to the ears today. It must’ve been a whole new experience listening to this back then

I never thought I’d see you react to this one, I assumed everyone already heard it and loved it. The album shrunk on me over time to be honest, yet it’s still one of my favorites? It just holds up so well, I can’t explain it. It’s really a timeless album.
Although Bowie's sound spans several genres, this is the album I recommend to first time Bowie listeners. So incredibly iconic 🌟
I"m 52, the fact that "Blackstar" is the "first vinyl" you ever got, makes you quite cool in my estimation. :)

One of my very favorites. Would love to see some more Bowie reactions. Hunky Dory, Low and Heroes are all really amazing, in fact he had no straight up bad albums, just a few that are underwhelming considering how incredible his output normally was. I'm glad to see this one clicked with you! It's very personal to me.

"Low" was much more inventive and influencing than Ziggy. In terms of his classic albums i feel like "Station To Station" is his most-well produced and the most beautiful album. "Space Oddity" is his another masterpiece released before Ziggy, so it would be good to check this one out while you're in his late 60/early 70s era. I love the energy and creartivity of "Scary Monsters". "The Next Day" is so underrated, it's from 2013, so thst would be a good album to react to before and if you do "Blsckstar"
I thought I couldn't be happier than the time you reviewed Unhappy Refrain but this album is THE ALBUM of a lifetime for me. I remember listening to Montage Daydream on full blast riding down the highway with my dad

David Bowie is one of those dudes that can and did move everybody.
So many bands sang so similarly back then. Why? Sometimes I feel it sounds like Beatles and I don't know a lot. This is coming from a man who listens to a lot of albums but hasn't fully listened to all older music. I've listened to 2 Beatles albums lol. But man, it's hard for me to get into some music at times. Maybe my ADHD. I gotta smoke some more and return to this lol

With David Bowie being my favorite musician, im glad youre giving him a shot, one thing you should know, is he was always reinventing himself, so its hard to say you "dont like david bowie" if youre being intellectually honest, and know enough about the guy, and gave him enough of a shot to listen to enough albums, or learn enough about the guy to know this...
The most mindblowing part of five years is that he did the vocals in one take and hes also crying in the vocal track he legit broke down haha

Ik this has nothing to do with the video but there’s this band that I’ve listened to for a long time. They’re called Can’t Bear This Party, and I honestly just want anyone that sees this comment to check them out. I suggest listening to their album Ain’t No Princess Down Here first. Their Modern Factory EP is also good, but I don’t think anything else can top their later album.

I don’t want to sound like one of “those guys”, but you have to be a bit mindful buying Bowie vinyl. A lot of the original US releases were pressed on DynaFlex which arguably isn’t as high quality as thicker vinyl from abroad/Europe or from later re-releases. It’s not necessarily “worse” per se, but DynaFlex is notorious for quality issues, noise, sound bleed, etc on account of the thinner material.

I highly recommend its brother album, hunky dory. Despite both of them having different vibes, they were written at the same time and I sincerely prefer hunky dory over ziggy. Great stuff

He’s saying that he is in love with the idea of love. But that does not mean he has found love. He is not loving anyone.
The album is a concept album so from the first track to the last it should be listened to as though Bowie is narrating a story to you where each song is connected. The song 5 years was influenced by the book "On the Beach" which tells the story of what happens after a nuclear war and Australia is the only country that survives. Unfortunately the inhabitants of Australia know that they've only got 5 years of life left before the nuclear cloud or radiation reaches them and kills them all. The "cut up" style of Bowie's lyric writing was actually created by the queer American author William S Burroughs and Canadian artist Bryon Gyson whom Bowie was a great fan of. Hope you do "Hunky Dory" and "Outside"
for me the drums in five years make me feel the desolation on the lyrics, it's like the feeling when everything is falling apart and you are resting for some seconds while every single thing that made you to this point is laying on your thoughts
