March 2024 Front Garden Tour! My Vision Has Come To Life!!

- Join me as I walk you through my front yard garden, in North Texas between Zone 8a and 8b! I had a vision this year for my front garden in the spring, and I am so happy that my vision has truly come to life the way I had hoped! From pansies, to dusty miller, to daffodils, tulips and hyacinth; I absolutely love how it has turned out!! Plus more and more perennials are coming to life!

Lovely combinations. I too love spring and the new life that emerges reminding us that beauty is just a season away when everything looks dead and dreary. I’m in 8B northeast Texas, so close to Louisiana I spend more time there than Texas. My begonias usually come back from the ground that are in sheltered areas. This last freeze we had in January that was like 4 or 5 days under 30 in a row may have succeeded in killing them but they survived freezes up to that for several years. Surprisingly my banana lantana is coming back from roots, but they were in the ground and I watered them and covered them with pine straw heap and blankets during that week long freeze, now a few didn’t make it but they were in area that holds water in winter so they probably rotted at roots.
That's amazing your begonias survived so long! None of my lantanas are showing signs of life, but they were "annual" varieties so I'm not too surprised. We experienced zone 7 temps at one point this winter. Thank you so very much for watching Kerry!! ❤️
Your garden is beautiful, the pansies are still thriving, so I can only imagine how hard it is to pull them out. I relocate mine to other areas of the garden when they are still doing well. Love the Hydrangeas. I am zone 9B and I feel like spring skipped us and summer is here it is getting hot…lol. Looking forward to seeing your garden in full bloom this spring 😊

Hi! I haven’t gone back to previous videos, but I’m wondering about your hydrangea on the corner…did you have any scorch problems last summer? I’m trying to find the right placement for mine to make it through august without scorching…🧐
Also, how much sun does the endless summer hydrangea in the pot get each day? I’m so curious bc I just haven’t been able to figure out what mine needs 😊
Feel free to watch my September Front Yard Garden Tour, and also please watch the November Front Yard Garden Tour! There was just a little bit of leaf scorch on the hydrangea in the corner from the record heat of last summer, and it shows in the September Tour. It is under my Vitex tree, so once it is fully leafed out, this hydrangea is in dappled shade pretty much all day long! It gets a very small amount (less than an hour) of morning sun, and a little sliver (less than an hour) of very late afternoon sun right before the sun sets! The hydrangea on the porch (the Big Daddy, not the variegated one next to it) gets maybe two hours of morning sun and shade the rest of the day during the summer. Both of these hydrangeas absolutely love life in those locations!! The variegated lace cap hydrangea on my porch gets the most direct morning sun and for longer (maybe 2.5-3 hours) and it definitely scorched and lost it's leaves during the end of summer last year. It did, however, leaf out again after it lost it's leaves! I will be doing a hydrangea care video soon that will talk about how it is possible to grow hydrangeas here in the right locations and given the right care, so please look for that soon!!
