Text OUTLINE in Camtasia 2023+ | New Feature

- Camtasia 2023 introduces a feature to add outline or stroke to text. It was a much requested feature and Techsmith added it now on Camtasia 2023.
This effect applies outline 'properly' to text, without using workarounds like with drop shadow or other workarounds shown in a previous video: • How to create OUTLINE ...
This new Camtasia effect also allows adding outline to other objects, such as when you remove the background from your video and add this to add an outline around your video. Try it out!
You can also add outline and remove the fill from the text to have an outline-only text. See in this video how I achieve that because it's missing from this effect at the moment.

Yeah this should work with all fonts and also with any other object that has 'alpha' or room around it.

thanks for your innovative Camtasia videos.
More than half a year later and the Outline/Stroke still not availalble for Windows :( very disappointing. I've been waiting for that feature so long. In general Camtasia treats text editing very bad since years now. It's such a crucial feature in modern day video editing!

Thank you for this. I have both Windows and Mac but hope this comes to Windows in a more polished state soon. Been trying to do this in Snagit, and it also doesn't allow you to pick a transparent option for fill color either. For Windows I had saved a PowerPoint with a few slides of Wordart fonts with Fill Color set to No Fill, Shadows Off and Text Outline set to White with 8 pt Weight. The weight can be adjusted past 6 pt in the more lines option. You then have to select the text box and choose Save as Picture and drag into the timeline/media. Doable but a pain for something that many other editors have.
You could use the remove color effect but it might be a little jagged with the anti aliasing around the edges... best if they implement this natively.
I want Camtasia to finally support Condensed fonts, they don't yet apply the Helvetica and Myriad Pro

I wonder if the “Remove” colour effect would take out the test colour? - I’m not near my Mac so I can’t test that, but I will!
It should but you know you got that fringe always to deal with. Good idea though.

This lack of the same features on both OSes infuriates me beyond belief! Hopefully they will see the light and start treating all customers equally.
@Graphicious here's hoping it will get refined and implemented into the Windows version soon. This has been my pet peeve since I started working in Camtasia again, after being away from using it for many many years. Everything, EVERYTHING has font strokes.

Has this been released for windows yet? I've been trying to find alternatives to remedy this, but I haven't found anything worth my time
If the background doesn't change and homogenous then you can choose the background color to make it 'transparent'.
If you know, when coming this feature in windows?
No, sorry. Techsmith is probably working on it but has not specified if/when it will be available on Windows.

Cristi is it really worth upgrading from 2022 to 2023?
If you don’t have the maintenance plan and get it free, I wouldn’t pay for this upgrade. 2022 has all you need. My opinion based on experience of 2023 so far.

Ich arbeite auch mit Camtasia 2023 aber wenn ich den Rahmen auf den text ziehe fehlt bei mir unten User Alpha. Ich verstehe nicht warum.
This option is currently only available on Camtasia 2023 for Mac. And make sure you have the latest version.

A bit late to the party, but I found out this workaround to achieve transparent text with an outline:
1. Create your text and add the outline. To avoid the text peeking through, choose the same color for both the outline and the filling.
2. Duplicate the text, but delete the outline.
3. Place it one layer above your original text layer.
4. Add mask layer effect to the top text layer and set to 'Invert'.
There you go. :)
Great, that's a very good workaround - I showed this in my live video last night. I don't know why changing the opacity of the text wasn't implemented... it makes so much sense.

Not sure what you mean. Just drag it and position it on the canvas at the top and bottom...
I’m not a pro on Camtasia, but couldn’t you make the font color the same as the background color?
You could but what if you want the text on top of a picture or video?
Use alpha Feature not allow in my Camtasia 2023
Probably your GPU is not powerful enough or not working. I believe alpha requires GPU support

Don't buy Camtasia. It is the worst purchase I have ever made. I bought the 2022 version and then for the 2023 version, if I want to update it, I have to pay again the same as I paid for the 2022 version. Better buy Final Cut or Davinci. You pay it once and have constant updates. Totally disappointed in Camtasia.
I think they are asking you to pay full again because you didn’t get the ‘Maintenance subscription’. For about $100 each year you get the latest version. I am sure you understand they have to pay the bills somehow. That being said, Camtasia 2023 has been a general failure for me so far - incredibly buggy and crashy. If the same happens with 2024, I’m cancelling everything.
