Hi again Joe. I last wrote regarding Space Invaders. I was looking at a Non Working Williams Space Odyssey up for sale just 30 min from my house. I searched your channel and sure enough I came across this and later picked this game up (watching you gave me the confidence to try an electro-mechanical pin. The problem it had was a short that i think you would have found interesting. I found it on a score reel. The coil back stop had broken and the point of the 45 degree bend in the plate. It then rotated 45 degrees making three points of contact between the coil power, a contact conductor and the reel chassis. I narrowed down by unplugging all the multi pin connectors and reconnected until a short was detected via multi meter at the fuse holder. I continue to enjoy your work. Next up for me is a Gottlieb Black Hole with no base cabinet but I do have the play-fields and the back box,
Wow that was an interesting one... I'm dong a video now where I fried the MPU on a gottlieb because I took the flipper bat out, which made the flipper pawl short out the lane change switch to the flipper end of stroke switch. Whoops! I had a Close Encounters of the Third Kind once too that someone had replaced the roto target coil with one that was too big, that shorted everything out too. Funny what you run into...
Absolutely great videos! I love that you bring in a fairly screwed up machine and systematically and logically repair it, great for the novice. I am somewhat knowledgeable but the logical troubleshooting, with the schematic used as necessary, is very helpful. BTW, I have multiple 400/600 (per label) Emory boards. Is that grit too coarse for standard switch contacts? Thanks again.
Joe.....my machine has the 1000 relay engaged and that makes the 1000 reel not register or count off the points after the ball drains. When the machine powers up and the first time the 1000 relay registers......it stays engaged and never switches back. I tried cleaning it but didn't work. Does the relay have a short?.....thoughts?
Look @ the playfield and see if there's a switch somewhere that scores 1000 points, if it's stuck closed it'll do exactly what you're saying.... or if there's a switch on one of the other relays that scores 1000 points (like a switch on the bonus unit or something).
Hey Joe, thanks for these videos. I recently bought this same machine as a project. I’m a bit of a novice, so quick question: when you say “I cleaned this or that”, how exactly do you clean the contacts, etc? What do you use? Maybe show that part sometimes.
We have a little flexible, worn out file we clean them with, if you use an aggressive file it wears the points away on the switches, you can even clean them with a business card, you basically just want to wipe the oxidation off the switches so they're nice and clean.
@@LyonsArcade I’ve been using an extremely fine sandpaper and very light touch so far. I can’t get the swinging target to register points. All the connections look good. Also, when the game starts up, the scores reset but the “clacking” keeps going for another 30 seconds or so after the reset then stops and spits out the ball. ?
If you look on the schematics at the score motor, it will list the switches that make the outhole relay pull in, it usually has something to do with bonuses resetting, when they get to their home position it makes or breaks a switch and if that switch isn't adjusted or clean you get where the motor keeps running longer...
Great job on your repair video's Joe. Who sells those zero stickers? I have been making my own out of paper and taping them on which does the trick but I would prefer the better quality stickers.
You can get them and all kinds of cool stuff from PBResource.com , the pinball resource. They only do things by email or phone but they make about everything possible for EM machines... they like it if you have a part number, but if you don't just email them and tell them what you're interested in and they'll get back to you. I just ordered a bunch of stuff from them today, actually.
@@LyonsArcade Oh gosh I didn't know Steve carried those stickers. I buy from him all the time but didn't find those stickers on his web page. I actually didn't even know they were made until I saw them in your video. I actually have a bunch of stuff written down for my next order so I will add these to the list. Thanks Joey!
Hay joe it's Randy haven't been on here for so long I don't remember how to get ahold of you I'm stuckI'm going to upload video maybe you can take a look at it and tell me what you think it is I'm stuck I've checked everything I'm going to show you the power wires to I rewired the switch not quite sure if it's right

That grit should work fine... thank you for watching!!!!!

I remember playing a later version of this table called Space Mission , I want to say it was 4 player as well.
Yes we did one of those about a year ago, same game basically.
