    Greetings from Romania. All your history videos help me like history and make difficult things easier to grasp. Whenever I have a history lesson I search first your posts and then I turn to my teachers explanations. And after watching you the notes I take in the class seem all right. Thank you a lot for making your videos available to us all.
    You are a wonderful professor.

      Mark Gable both. Thomas Paine for example was born in England, but many would have been from the immigration of 150 years.

    The sugar act was a sign of long history cronyism between the parliament and British Caribbean sugarcane planters. They weren’t making much profit, in fact were running heavy losses selling molasses and unrefined sugar. The French, the Spanish and the Dutch Caribbean colonies produced better quality and cheaper sugarcane. The British planters, therefore, resented the mainland British colonists buying from those colonies instead of them. They lobbied in the parliament to stop this free trade between the foreign colonies and the mainland British colonists. The parliament, hence, came up with the molasses act of 1733. It was for making colonial traders purchase from British islands rather than the foreign ones, and collect some taxes from the transactions made. This didn’t bring in much revenue though and so was replaced by sugar act of 1764 which basically halved the taxes on purchases made from the British Caribbean islands but increased taxes on foreign sugar and molasses bought from the French, the Dutch and Spanish sugar island colonies. The mainlanders had never wanted to buy from the British sugar islands because of inferior quality and the fact that the sugar was expensive there compared to elsewhere. The rum distillers and sugar refiners in the 13 colonies, wouldn’t make any profit from this and so wouldn’t receive much for their rum and refined sugar in the international market, where they earned in gold and silver coins.

    Eight soldiers and Captain Preston were tried for murder. Two soldiers were found guilty of manslaughter but received reduced punishments (by "benefit of clergy") were branded on their thumbs. The other 6 soldiers (and Preston) were acquitted.

    I genuinely enjoyed your video but there were some critical mistakes that lead to disformation. This not being a critical mistake, but please learn the proper pronunciation of the Appalachian Mountains...
    11 Colonists were injured in the incident, with 5 of them dying. Not 6 as you described. John Adams did Represent the eight British regulars and was able to get seven acquitted but two were charged with manslaughter..
    Those two mistakes were what stuck out to me the most. Otherwise, your videos are wonderful and I hope you keep doing them.

    • @tomrichey
      @tomrichey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This has me wondering if you have ever been to Appalachia and heard how they pronounce the name of their own region... I generally defer to local pronunciations, as with other places, like Nevada, which are pronounced differently by those who live there and those who don’t.

    • @Michel73526
      @Michel73526 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom Richey, I appreciate you’re response. I live just north of Boston, MA and have hiked parts of the A.T (Appalachian trail). I haven’t personally heard that pronunciation before, but since the mountain range covers so much land, it is possible that some small towns may use that pronunciation.
      I can appreciate you defer to local residents to confirm your pronunciation of local areas.
      Massachusetts locations can be difficult. For example, Concord = Concerd.
      Thanks for you’re response,
      M. Richard
