Thank you for taking care of the monarchs! There are so many butterflies on your zinnias. Will they have access to other flowers after you remove the zinnias?
We are still trying to think of a way to leave the zinnias while preparing the rest of the garden. We have noticed they don't mind if the flowers are pulled, they still feed on them. So that will extend the time somewhat. The cosmos will stay awhile as well and they love those. We will definitely be leaving as many flowers for as long as we can. We also have lantana and other perennials that will be staying.
Hi, Glad you support the monarchs! You’re lucky you’re in TX to see the migration in both directions. I’m in NC and have only seen 2 this year, no eggs on my milkweed. 🥲 I love your enclosure creativity. I wanted to tell you and others that I have an enclosure I bought that is fine mesh and it collapses with a zipper door on one side. It’s made for butterfly raising. I currently have swallowtail cocoons inside. I bought it to help monarchs. Really worried about the low numbers this year. I think I got the enclosure on Amazon several yrs ago. By the way, I pulled my zinnias too! Very sad by looking forward to hardy annuals!

Yes we are so lucky. I’ve lived in Texas all my life and have never seen them for SURE. This garden really brought them out! Thanks for the comment!
