Finish turning of a roughed, microwaved Ash bowl blank. Short explanation of how I dry green wood in the microwave oven. I don't say how my wife feels about my process.
I was just sitting inside on this cold rainy morning today watching my favorite turners on you tube with the wife, and the dogs. I told them that you were one of the ones at the top ;-) Kent
Very interesting turning. I enjoy the bowls and the technic of drying the wood. I hope my wife would allow to use the microwave for this ;-) Hey, i wrote the comment and read then the other comments. I think, boys, we all have the same problems at home ;-)
I enjoyed your discussion of microwaving freshly cut wood bowls I am in the process of preparing a number of blanks into bowls and I really don't want to wait months or years for them to dry.
Another nice video John. John, it's ok to say " I don't know" . That's why there are books and blueprints. One person can't know everything about a subject. I enjoy your videos. John, I commend you. Your videos have nice crisp close ups coupled with your great detail explanations.
You're very welcome, Rickey. :) Back when I started turning, moisture meters did not work as well as I assume they work now. I've become used to judging moisture by deformation so I haven't bothered with a meter.
Willem Kossen You can probably get away with it at least once. If you don't set the wood on fire, twice. But yeah, I really need to get my own microwave for the shop :-)

Harry Watts Thank you very much!
A beautiful bowl, and a thoroughly enjoyable video, with some great tips as well.
I did laugh at the "please can I have some more" :)
Take care
Mike

I started doing it because I didn't want to wait either. :-) I cook almost all my green blanks now - even small spindle blanks.
Thanks for the clear explanation throughout the video; it was very helpful.
I'm glad you found it helpful. Thanks for letting me know!
Great looking bowl,
Thanks for the tips on microwaving, I've only tried it once.
Carl Jacobson Thank you. I'm definitely sold on microwaving green wood. Thanks for watching!
Glad that I found your channel... you have taught me a lot already and I have much more catching up to do. Thanks for making these videos.

That seems to be the key to microwaving.allowing the item to rest for a while before returning.
Nice job on your bowls.
Steve Lindsley Thank you. Thanks for watching!
Many thanks for sharing your knowledge. Have you ever thought of using a moisture meter?
You're very welcome, Rickey. :) Back when I started turning, moisture meters did not work as well as I assume they work now. I've become used to judging moisture by deformation so I haven't bothered with a meter.
Its been 5 years since you made ghis video, do you still use this method?
Sehr schön Roundabout!
Tiroler Drechsler Vielen Dank, thank you very much!

Lo siento, yo no lo entiendo.
Im not sure my wife will enjoy the microwave being used for my wood. But ill try this out someday.

I once was blind too, but now I see!
:)
I think maybe you need to do a lot longer but at 30% power. I saw one wood turner who did his 40 minutes at 30%.
Thomas Hanson If I cooked it for that long my wife would catch me using the microwave. :-)
Roundabout Woodworks IT is a bowl, put some soup in it and tell her you're learning to cook.
Thomas Hanson Thanks for the laugh. That's what I'm going to say from now on. :-)
tuyệt vời
Thank you. :-)
