Eddy came to Iceland in 2004 and we had a Masterclass and concert for a weekend. He then played Leblanc OpusII Bb clarinet and an older Buffet A clarinet. One Icelandic girl Sveinhildur Torfadottir studied with him and almost all of his students were playing Leblanc at that time(he got go deal on them since he had a contract with Leblanc at that time). His sound is very smooth and fluid(like I find the Opus clarinet sound for me). We were then a bit shooked to know that he now plays Buffet Tosca
Its nice to read that people pay extra attention to the contrabass clarinet! I play that instrument in this group, and in this concert. I'm playing a Leblanc contrabass here. It was a very nice concert. Thanks for your observation.
I'm in the top band at my high school and I've been playing clarinet for 4 years since 6th grade and this year during concert season is the year I get to play the Bb Contra Clarinet! SO EXCITED :D
There are many types of organ pipes. Besides the straight tubes which sound like flutes, there are conical tubes with reeds which sound like clarinets and oboes. The pipe organ and a wind band can sound remarkably similar because of the variation of tubes as well as both "instruments" use wind to power the sound.
Great performance! My only gripe? CONDUCTED WAY TOO FAST!!! Some of those end phrase chords are supposed to be SAVORED, not rushed through. Sustain it a bit, good lord... Also, if anyone would like to see a vid of Marco and his contrabass search for his vid called "Kinsa Trio: Himno al Sol". I absolutely love this piece.
I use 6 Luries.... I am a contra/bassoonist as well as a clarinetist, so when I go to clarinet from bassoon, and especially contrabassoon, I need something that can handle my blasting... I also like the control you get with thick reeds; I can play higher than a piano using overtones/harmonics, weaker reeds can't handle the vibrations.
Wow wow wow!!! Amazing performance! This is just like a Recorder orchestra except lots of reeds and keys. And an octave or two lower -- or three. And we would *never* attempt this piece :)
hey can sumone help me,i just got two new reeds(size 4) and all i have is a reedy and airy sound that wnt go away and i have to play on a b45 cuse my m-13 broke can sumone give me sum advice,i sound horrible and i cant bare it anymore ,any other time i have a good sound but not with this reeds or b-45 message me
Why is it rushed?! Haven't you ever heard a recording of this! You don't rush, especially the fugue, it just sounds terrible. I like the contrabass sound though...
No, saxophones have CONICAL bores, not cylindrical, otherwise, they wouldn't overblow at the octave. That fact is also what gives them their unique timbre- a totally different sound from the clarinet.
that was fuckin amazing. it ALMOST sounds better than the original with the organ. BUT...the organ just has something about it. these clarinets rock tho!
if that's the truth, then i would expect saxophones to have near exact timbre of sound, seeing as they are cyllindrical tubes, only brass, like the organ. i would love to hear this done by a saxophone choir, just to confirm my curiosity

I can play this song ok I guess. I would love to be in a clarinet ensamble. It seems like it would be relly fun. I think I'm too young, though.

Was there an Alto or a Contra alto in the choir?

Why is it rushed?! Haven't you ever heard a recording of this! You don't rush, especially the fugue, it just sounds terrible. I like the contrabass sound though...
mmmm. dat bass though

Excellent work by the performers, no doubt. I'm just not a fan of the clarinet. Still, excellent work.
Its not a song dude
the first notes sounded horrible
Contra bass isn't as good as everyone says. The Eb clarinet is way better
beautiful.
i have already heard some other performances including Marco Mazzini; he is simply a virtuoso! I really like
Is the the contra being played here a Selmer or Leblanc?
It's a Leblanc and the mouthpiece was quite open (I'm playing the contrabass clarinete in this video). Thanks for your comment!
