The best street food in India - We're back in Vizag!

  • We were travelling all over India at the end of last year, from Kochi at the very bottom of South India, to Mumbai in the middle of the west coast to our next destination on India's east coast: Andhra Pradesh state's biggest city Visakhapatnam. Vinod and I used to live in Vizag for 3 years. Vizag is where we started our life together in a live-in relationship and where we got married just before relocating to our current home in Kerala. So this is a very special vlog series for me, as we return to our old hometown for the first time since leaving. Though I think I was most excited about getting to visit the Vizag Food Street for a great selection of Indian street food stalls and my very favourite dosa in all of India!

    Johanna madam, I think, this city is witnessed to your stubborn, dedicated commitment to your love and relationship with Mr Vinod, from your earlier videos, for which Mr Vinod should considered himself extremely lucky because such love and commitment is rarely found even in India nowadays.

    It was really nice to listen to your explanation about not using a stroller in India , basically in our country we believe to keep our children close to not only us but close to our heart and touch as children are so tender and that I believe keeps a very strong bonding between the family, nice to see how both you and vinod are imbibing indian values to Annika, I remember my father too use to carry me on his shoulders and how I enjoyed being on top of the world there, I miss him so much as he is no more😢

    • @JohannaNorth
      @JohannaNorth  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I’d love to be able to use a stroller TOO though because it would make long walks so much easier in cities and towns 😊 it’s not really that we’re trying to imbibe indian values specifically to Annika, but the values from both of our cultures that we agree with and think are good things - it’s important to us to value both of our cultures in Annika’s upbringing 🙏😊

    • @jstep3427
      @jstep3427 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JohannaNorth I agree with you. Each culture has its uniqueness which needs to be respected and imbibed.
      On the realistic front, our roads are not at all suitable for strollers. As Vinod rightly pointed out, there's hardly any space for pedestrians so the stroller remains a far fetched idea as of now. It's a delight to see Annika enjoying her time on her daddy's shoulders 😇😇😇

      It's also just that the city is super familiar to me, since I was always walking around the city, pretty much everyday. I know all the street names, localities, where everything is and that's just a very nice feeling to have, not to have to search for anything, use maps or learn constantly. I can easily manage all aspects of daily life in Vizag alone without anyone's help and before writing this reply I didn't even realise how much I miss that feeling, since it's not that easy here where we currently live!

      @@JohannaNorth I can certainly empathize with that realization / revelation Johanna. Perhaps you can store that little bit of a gem stone to assist in choices down the road. Parents in cities or remote villages, are seen carrying child sitting on sholders of parents.
    India with huge population multi religion ,languages as well is in process of development . Roads are getting better,across the entire vast country . Your memories of Vizag recalled, appreciate your strong willingness and willpower to persuaded the goals set in your mind ..

    Johanna as per usual you have made a SUPER vlog whooop ❤ Thanku so much. Yes the West and East are completely different. As you and Vinod rightly said the infrastructure between the West and East is polar opposite and of course the child seat systems are completely different too. The West might appear safer with sidewalks for strollers and pedestrians and laws about child car seats but in my opinion the East is humbling and happier by far. Life isn't all about sidewalks and car seats and being wrapped up in cotton wool. At times I feel dead here in the UK. But in India I always felt alive. I feel that the West is so suppressed and India is very happy and free. I know India can have major pitfalls esp when it comes to law corruption but Annika is having a very happy childhood and a wonderful upbringing in India. Also I lived with an Indian family for a year in Gokarna and their little girl was like Annika. Re she was happy and free. Here in the UK kids always have to adhere to health and safety legislations and that's really restrictive for them. Kids are safe in India. Laws are so over the top in the West. Looking forward sto your next vlog lovely lady ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

      I can't use just any music as background music, due to copyright laws and rules, so I use these royalty free music services that have a very limited, if not non-existent, selection of classical Indian music. Sometimes I happen to find Indian style music that fits the video, but it doesn't happen that often unfortunately.

    Car seat ???....We grew up seeing families packed into our old ,panting, wheezing Ambassador cars ,sometimes dozen at a time, children sitting on adults laps ,arms,legs and necks sticking out from every available space,nook and crevice available...we were all packed so tight that if one of us sneezed, all of us would have been crushed to death...
    Stroller ???....well ! Some of our roads are so bad that instead of finding the odd pothole between the road, you'd be lucky to find bits of road between the zillion potholes...

    You were expecting changes in Vizag? Lol... We have the worst CM in the entire country right now. Forget development if the present CM doesn't spoil the state that itself is a great achievement for the Andhra people. Only CBN can save this state next year, assuming he will win the elections next year, else I can't see any development happening in the near future in Andhra Pradesh .

      I don’t follow the AP politics much anymore since after our move we get the Kerala edition of The Hindu 😄 but I was expecting changes in the sense that while we were still living in Vizag and if we went away for travelling even for a month there wouldve been noticeable changes in that short time with new buildings, shops, restaurants etc cropping up! But very glad that my favourite things hadn’t changed, like the food street 😂

      @@JohannaNorth, that must have been before 2019, I believe. After Jagan took over regime, we had 3 capitals in the state. One for the legislative, one for the executive, and one for the judicial system. Later on, when people went to court about this nonsense. It went on for around 3 and half years in the court and finally, this year court denied the state government against 3 capitals. Now, the state government is saying vizag is the capital. So in short, the government was just fooling around all these years without any development since 2019. All these years we had a clown in the name of CM in the state. It's a wonder that we are not yet bankrupted like Sri Lanka with all the debts in the state.

    Oh, Indian streets are so noisy and chaotic🙆‍♀️🤦‍♀️
    I get dear Johanna when you say using a toddler stroller on Indian streets is a chimera.
    Let us hope by the year 3,000 Indian infrastructure would be functional like those in the developed or underdeveloped Western countries. It is also a cultural issue that Indian streets remain still pretty much the same as they might have been 100 years ago. There's no systematic, functional and neat urban designed infrastructure can be found in Indian urban or suburban areas. I don't think it's about fund issues. I guess it's more about Indian cultural dilemma. Human safety is not at all the priority in India at any field of work.
    Neither order can't be seen or felt in Indian streets.
    Mine wants to be constructive criticism, so that future Indian generations open up on their views and give priority to human safety. I know Indian population is going to be the first over populated country in the world by 2024. Therefore, it's not easy to have an orderly streets with adequate infrastructure. But India could still learn from Chinese urban and suburban infrastructure and implement them on Indian streets.

      It's better to be in an orderly chaotic country than in a western country with a loot or gun culture filled with colonialist/racist mentality.
      We became independent just 75 yrs back with Western countries acting against us and supporting Pakistan until they found they were raising snakes in the backyard.
      Atleast our external debt is not the highest in the world. All the developed and western countries have to pay trillions of dollars back at any point but you people aren't aware of it😂

      Your comments bespoke of racism coupled with an anti India attitude. Just because you may be possessing a paler skin, gives you no right to make incorrect, presumptions based on delusion without any understanding of reality.
      Open your mind without any hatred and quit following in the mindset of Hitler. We are an ancient civilization possessing far more knowledge that the entire human race. That every one goes through the ravages of the time cycle, which seems unknown to you is a reality.
      When Europe was going through the dark ages, India was in her golden age .
      May your mind come out of darkness that you seem to be in.
