Ducati Diavel V4 Review - First Ride

  • The problem with the Ducati Diavel has always been the inability to adequately describe the type of motorcycle it was. Power Cruiser never came close to encompassing the bike’s capabilities. Similarly, Muscle Bike implied the brute force it’s capable of quite well but overlooked the finesse with which it could be applied. With the addition of the V4 Granturismo engine, the Diavel has matured into the bike it was always meant to be, the Mega-Monster. The 2023 Ducati Diavel V4 has reached the point in its design and performance that it leaves all vestiges of cruiserness in its dust.

    Before V4’s you had to decide did you want torque or high rpm horsepower from a bike. The V4 combines both midrange torque and high rpm horsepower. It’s like combing a triple with a V2.or v2 with in line 4. This year Diavel could become more than a niche bike with this engine. Great cruiser/ tourer and not 800 pounds! Long service intervals icing on the cake. Love the 4 pipe exhaust similar 3 pipe exhaust MV AGusta telling others something special. Of course the cool tail light. No mods needed. Look at the msrp of Harley cvo, this is a bargain and not seen on every corner like a Harley or Honda motorcycle.

    My only complaint is I don’t have one. I’ll even keep the stock exhaust with a modification of my own means.

    The cylinder deactivation just like cars more for fuel mileage and emissions. Yes, deactivation helps mileage on air cooled bikes but may decrease heat a little at traffic lights. With liquid cooled bikes the coolant temp will not drop at the traffic light.

    9 k oil change lol. Ya ok. And cylinder deactivation sounds like a reliability nightmare

    • @TechReviewInsider
      @TechReviewInsider ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually deactivation is a nightmare as only one portion of the engine gets heated and other cools . Well I guess Italian people get reliability right a long time ago

    I had a 17 monster 1200 R and 16 1200 s. They’re premium as hell. Since those bikes i know Ducati has just made insanity. The 9k oil changes are cool but they’re probably $400 once you get one. And same for the valve service at 30k+, that’ll probably cost $3k when the time comes. I get it Ducati is premium. But I want people to know the real cost of servicing one regardless of the improvements they’ve made.

    • @vintagerocket6814

      $400 for an oil change? You really need to spend the 20 minutes on a TH-cam video and save yourself $300!

    The key question is if you own a 1260S Diavel is the V4 worth the upgrade? Based on what I've seen and read, not really.

    More car emission stuff moving to bikes. Stability control, cylinder deactivation, VVT, with forced induction/hybrid on the horizon. Full EV bikes will probably arrive faster. More range with faster charging stations. What the public does not understand is MOST public charging is slow, inexpensive level 2 charging. PRIVATE TESLA superchargers are all level 3 DC fast chargers.

    With all due respect for Evans, for a channel this big the presentation and script reading fall a bit flat compared to the video footage and to the bike description seen on other motorcycling journalism channels. I don't mean this comment as an attack, but rather as constructive criticism so it can be improved, since everything else on the video is great!

    Looks wise I like the old XDiavel best. Why cylinder deactivation? On a motorcycle? Too complex. Boo!

  • @ryannafe9252
    @ryannafe9252 ปีที่แล้ว

    Way too complex in design. The Italian bikes are already well-known for being expensive to maintain and sometimes questionable in long-term durability, and the first three minutes of the video do everything to further undermine my confidence that the bike will be there for the long haul.

    • @EvansBrasfieldMotojournalist

      Ducati owners do care about rear cylinder heat, which is the primary reason for killing the rear cylinders.
