After years of study and discipline, the thing I needed to hear the most is right there at around 12:50, "Pull." That's the last piece of the puzzle. Thanks, Miss Hong. I'm gonna start applying to comic book jobs now.
I've just started a fashion design course and your tutorial was recommended by my teacher to watch. You explain and demonstrate things so well and clearly. Thank you for putting this content online. You are an EXCELLENT teacher! I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Big hugs from Australia.
Lines of pull, gathers,.. these are concepts nobody else even mentions. Your explanations on fabric rendition are excellent, the best I have seen so far. Thankyou.
I've seen loads of tutorials about fashion illustrations but no one compares to you honestly! The way you explain everything to the details it's amazing and so easy to understand. I wish you could teach in my class thanks a lot for your efforts and videos you are saving my life ❤👍👍looking forward for more, bless 🙏
crotch wrinkles 😂😂 i love how you simplified everything its so easy to digest. also watching you draw itself is just so satisfying, such beautiful elegant strokes im in loveee
My goodness your videos are great! I love them! I don't even know where to begin to tell how grateful I am for them! I have learned so much! Thank you, all the way from Brazil!
Not to worry! I'm so excited to find your channel. I appreciate this so much. I've always drawn flat and now that I'm sewing and trying to document my costume ideas for others, it's time I learn how to draw for real. So I'm here! And learning already. I like how you present it.
Hi Zoe , I'm a medical student from Egypt . Whole my life I wanted to study designing but I have to wait for those one billion years of my college to end 😃 I want to thank you soooo mush for helping me catching my dream . God bless you and your awesome videos ❤️
Zoe, your videos are like super long but in a good way because they're so damn informative! And everything makes sense unlike some others. I'm so glad to have found you since I've always been desperate to improve my drawing but never had someone as good as you teach me how to. Your channel is definitely Bible in that sense. xxxx
These drawing classes have been a huge help for me. They are answering my questions one by one! I thank you for having made all of these videos. It really demonstrates your commitment to the industry and a desire to help people become the best they can be within the industry. Thank you sooo much!
You make it so easy! I love your videos and how you take the time to explain and show, it's made my illustrations look soo much better. I really like your style of drawing and illustrating. And you make it fun and entertaining to watch so thank you for the videos and the time it takes you to make them!!!
Hi Zoe, Always admired your work and style from verbal croquis... I’ve never considered illustration my strong point (I’m lazier than you ;)) and as a designer/illustrator having to communicate design concepts quickly, I gravitated to using Illustrator and Photoshop and a lot of tracing. Wanted to get back to hand illustration and knowing I need to practice I came to You Tube searching for motivation....so happy I found you and your tutorials only just found you today, so got a lot to practice to catch up on. Thank you for taking the time to post and Happy Anniversary!
I`ve recently finished your fabric related playlist and it was so efficacious to me. I`ve learned alot! And I`m also studying books that you`ve suggested. I just wanted to say thank you and i really appreciate your works on TH-cam. my study routines have changed alot since I`ve found your channel:) xoxo
Jus thought about how in any and every tutorial about folded clothing, there hasnt been one person to say this very helpful tip. For clothing folding outwards the shading goes on the sides of the fold while when folded inwards the shading goes inside the fold....just a helpful tip for other beginning artists
the best video zoe.. learnt all basics fr draping.. thank u so much... you have made it so simple.. earlier i had difficulty in giving crease lines n diagonal drape lines.. i wl try these in my dress tomorrow... 😊👍👍👍👍💕💕💕
I swear, you have EVERYTHING, EVERY SINGLE drawing tutorial for anyone who wants to become a fashion designer, all the most important things to know and to be able to illustrate everything you imagine, even fabric texture😱😍💫, tutorials from drawing body to babric, even few tutorials on draping, pattern making & sewing! You are the best,😍🙏🖤, I had no idea about all these treasures you soo kindly and generously put out here, thank you for your time, kindness, generosity, understanding, skills, talent and knowledge you share with us. I wish I found you much much earlier😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 🙏😣😶. P.S. I always enjoy your little sweet rants/intros in the begging, it's kinda comforting and friendly, and doesn't scare the shit out of me as it happens sometimes, when I learn something new. 😅🙃😶🙏🖤
Zoe Hong ...You know when I first saw your introducing video and you told people to tell you about any thing that they wanted to learn..I said OMG I will tell her about how to improve my drawing stuff as the problem is that I have inspiration.but un luckly I can't draw it..Then I open the videos to find you make full video about these stuff..The video is amazing ..Thanks Zoe
watching your videos absolutely love it all! you are such a talent with personality. extremely helpful even for a beginner like me. go and practice-love that. you can’t become a master overnight.. thank you for sharing your knowledge☺️
Loved it!! It was really informative and helpful; just what I needed, THANK YOU. I'll be also on the line waiting for the evening wear's one. Love from the Dominican Republic! :)
Lol, omg, right now I'm procrastinating on a few projects because my own perfectionism paralizes me, (we are our own worst critic, huh?) and you start the video by sharing the same feeling... Thanks, not only because of your awesome videos and thorough teaching but also for that encouraging sentence. Btw, if you need your videos captioned in Spanish, I'd be happy to help.
Yes, we are so always our own worst critics!!! I did read somewhere that we could upload translations. Have you ever done that? Do you know how it works?
Yup, you have to unlock the option somewhere in the video settings, it should be under "manage subtitles and closed captions" and then turn on the option for community contributions. I did a few for a school project (I'm studying to be a translator ENG>SPA (Latin america) and I started fashion design this year) I'm currently translating a video for a craft/sewing channel, it seems after I caption it, it waits for approval, from both TH-cam and the author. I'll let you know how it goes. I think it should be awesome to have your videos in Spanish, my classmates found them very helpful but they don't understand English and they miss a few tips because of it, and also your jokes xD
Well heaven forbid anyone miss any of my jokes! I mean, that's why y'all watch, right? Ha. I would love to have subtitles for my videos, but I'm afraid I can't pay you or anything. I mean, I don't make money from my channel either. (People keep telling to start putting ads up but I have to think about it.) Will you let me know how your current video translating works out? You can email me at teaching@zoehong.com if you prefer. Thanks!
It's okay, I wasn't going to do it to get paid, I mean, I think your intention when you make these videos is to share your knowledge from the bottom of your heart, because it's your passion. My dream job is to translate art/craft books, it's a way to merge two worlds I love, which are translation and art. Sadly that type of translation is not popular where I live (art is underrated, I still get strange looks or silly comments when I say I'm in fashion school, haha) So I figured I should start with tiny steps, even if I won't get a job in this in the future. S o, making knowledge available for more people is a great way to start and spread good vibes :D I'll keep you posted by email.
That sounds awesome. I wish I knew a second language well enough to do that. My Korean is only medium. I can read, write, and speak conversationally but my technical vocabulary is non-existent--I did all my schooling in the US and never properly studied Korean. I really do hope you can figure out a way to marry your passion to your ability to pay your bills. Yes, let's keep in touch.
Thank you so much for all the time and commitment you put into your videos!!!! Love them by the way. As a new undergraduate fashion student starting in August, i really want to start getting my supplies before hand. Do you think you could probably do a video(or if you think it doesn't deserve a video, and maybe just a blog post on facebook or instagram maybe) on materials you advise students get, also the best brands for certain materials, the stores you advise we buy them at, and the little things that we sometimes wouldn't think of when thinking of supplies we need.
You're welcome! I think you should go with the supplies recommended to you by your class/teacher. There should be a class required supplies list for every class you're enrolled in and the homework assignments will involve the specific things the teacher put on the list. So go find your supplies lists as soon as they're available. In terms of general recommendations, I have a video playlist called "Different Media and Materials" that goes over my opinions on different supplies. Good luck with your studies!
also im waiting for drapes fr evening gowns... thanks fr taking up this topic.. i design evening dresses a lot.. and i do face difficulty in deciding drapes..
Heyyy Zoe♡i love your videos!!in my opinion they're really helpful especially for those who are into fashion and art --like me.I would like to become a fashion designer☆
very useful . i just like the way you teach , it is so professional . i just can't wait for the video about the pleats . can you also cover in the same video ruffle please ?
Can we just talk about how spot on her eyeliner is ...like how?...this was 4 years ago. Fashion forward won't cut this one Zoe. Where did you hide the time machine?
Zoe , you are so great! thanks for all your videos ,they are so useful and they help me a lot. you are so wonderful ,so amazing ,thank you ! wish you well.^. ^
You're AMAZING!!! Same as usually☺️ Thanks for your work! We are learn a lot! And I really wanna learn from you how to draw soft plastic, and transparent one like for rain coat and metal😳
Thank you! You mean like clear vinyl? You said "for rain coat and metal"--I understand the rain coats but what do you mean for metal? Do you have a link to a picture?
I'll think about it! I don't have a book I'd recommend, that's mostly why I do these videos, I don't have other resources I can point to for my students.
wow!!! this is such an awesome video !!! you just have a natural way for getting the information through!!! you have no idea how much help you've been! !! (could you add a man's suit to the list??? please. ) :)
At 13:25 I'm curious why the pull lines don't go from the top left of her torso toward the hip with the hand on it in the opposite direction? Visually what you did looks correct, but my brain would assume the high hip is pulling the top fabric toward it more than the back hip is pulling the hem of the shirt. Is due to the tight material? All your videos are great, but this definitely covered the details I understood the least. Thank You!
Hi Zoe, I am a big fan of your down to earth, clear and very helpful video's. I am designing a lot of draped jackets and hoodies in black with PU leather and mesh fabric for men. Do you have videos that are about these features? Stay awesome! Thank youuu. Anouk
Well...let's see...I suggest you watch all the drawing clothes series, and the men's figure drawing series, and if you're designing, I suggest you watch the series on drawing flats, and the tech pack series.
HI ZOE i am a dental medical student from algeria and to be a fashion designer is a dream for me . but infortunatly because of the charge of my studies i can t subscribe in some school to learn that and now thanks to your videos i am learning a lot of stuffs .. ijust wanna thank you for helping us thats really nice of you
what I really love in your illustrations and all the good drawings (including toulouse lautrec for example) is the stroke, the lively stroke of them. As if the movement and rhythm were impressed in the preasure you put in those strokes. THAT is really difficult to achieve... And it really makes the difference in comparison with regular ilustrator drawings... I suppose drawing from life, training helps? ??....because the problem with photos is that sometimes the stroke/line looks rigid, dead (this happens to me, but I saw this also in others) So, Any suggestions to improve the "caligraphy" stroke, gesture? THANKS FOR all.
Who are the 17 dislikes ?????
She put a lot of work in her videos, is just sad that some people don’t appreciate it
I love her videos
There’s always those few trolls that go around disliking videos.
Trolls....pay them no mind...we're here for Zoe and she's here for us! that's all that matters ;)

I did a few for a school project (I'm studying to be a translator ENG>SPA (Latin america) and I started fashion design this year)
I'm currently translating a video for a craft/sewing channel, it seems after I caption it, it waits for approval, from both TH-cam and the author.
Ha.

Love them by the way. thanks so much for your helpful teaching!
You're welcome!
love this please consider starting an online design school! do have any books that we can further read up on for this.
I'll think about it! I don't have a book I'd recommend, that's mostly why I do these videos, I don't have other resources I can point to for my students.
wow!!! this is such an awesome video !!! you just have a natural way for getting the information through!!! you have no idea how much help you've been! !! (could you add a man's suit to the list??? please. ) :)
I will definitely add drawing a man's suit to the list for you. :D

I suppose drawing from life, training helps? ??....because the problem with photos is that sometimes the stroke/line looks rigid, dead (this happens to me, but I saw this also in others) So, Any suggestions to improve the "caligraphy" stroke, gesture? THANKS FOR all.
I had planned a future Wednesday video on line quality. I have quite a lot to say about it so stay tuned for that video.
Thanks you for sharing
