Thanks for this video and bringing attention to this terrific game. Can’t wait for it to get wider distribution. Anyone interested in learning this game will not find a better rules video. Well done!
Received this game yesterday and it’s about to hit the table later tonite. Great video which will hopefully make any possibility of making mistakes much less than just me reading the rulebook. Thanks for uploading this :)
Great video! It's much clearer than the rulebook. From the rulebook I could neither tell how hometowns work, nor how multiple modifiers add up (e.g. collecting taxes 3 times).
Yeah, I got the new version recently and there was a couple of things we weren't sure about. The old rulebook definitely had a number of misleading wordings.
I'm anxious to see how TMG deluxify this one. While watching this I thought, "This could easily be a game about running fast food franchises." Building restaurants all over the country and expanding your range, building home offices instead of home towns. Building up your personnel to get upgrades for your business, "If you want to make the special sauce you're going to need at least 3 chefs."
I'm keen to know too. I have given some feedback on some of the graphic design issues we had with it when we played and I think they have incorporated them, which is good :)
Yeah, I know Maggibot had issues with some of the icons on the board like the red/green/yellow above the hometowns. Or how some of the board icons look like tiles you should be able to remove and that can be confusing during gameplay cause at a glance you think, "I can still take this action" but then when you go for the tile you realize you were just looking at the Philosopher action space icon.
Awesome job Paul. About hometown modifier ability when you peform a Philosopher action: Supposing I pay 8 to train 2 of my population (2 types of population 1 time each or 1 type of population 2x). If I use the hometown modifier, I could: A) 3 types of population 1 time each? B) 2 types of population (train 1 type 1x and 2 types 2x)? C) 1 type of population 3x? And if I have more bonuses from the cards, is the bonus cumulative?
As far as I know yes. We did play the other day, and the rulebook wasn't clear on how the "double tax" tiles work. We had to get clarification online, but I think I got it right in the video.
Are the cards in the set up dealed out face up to choose from? The new rulebook says that you do not have to show other players which cards are in your hand
Another excellent video! I'm more than happy that I could back the game on Kickstarter which runs till 17th February 2018. www.kickstarter.com/projects/michaelmindes/gentes-deluxifiedtm-edition Will definitely watch the video again when it arrives in November 2018.
Sorry about that. TH-cam forced adverts onto all of my videos a couple of years ago, with no choice. On all my videos now, I only have ads at the start, but for older videos they forced mid-roll adverts. I didn’t have any choice. I could go back and manually change every video to remove them but I don’t have the time. Many other channels have ads all the way through a video, which I personally hate. However, just so you know, I donate every single penny of my advertising revenue to charity. I make zero money from any adverts in any of my videos.

Thanks so much :)

Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thanks for the video Paul! We'd have been lost without it :)
Thanks Nick. Sorry for the delay in replying - just seen this comment!
Assume you were playing with the original rulebook, which is less than great.
Just received my KS copy and your video makes the game, without reading the rules, already very understandable. Thanks Paul!!!
Thanks for taking the time to comment :)

I've not actually read the new rulebook. I worked off the old one (which wasn't great), and got some clarifications.
Excellent video! The rule book is a little bit confusing in some key aspects pf the game. This was super helpful! Thank you.
Yeah, I got the new version recently and there was a couple of things we weren't sure about. The old rulebook definitely had a number of misleading wordings.
I agree. Thank you!
Great video as always, thanks Paul
Thanks so much for the How to play videos Paul!
Hi Paul. As always great rules review. Same like in Nippon, it can help one start game without reading rules.
Great JOb. Best regards.
Thanks! That's my plan.
Thanks!
another great video. Thanks Paul!

Again, great job explaining Paul! Thank you!

Excellent video, as always. Could you do one more explaining how to play with the expansion?
My hourglass tiles are one sided, is this a different version of Gentes?
Well done Paul.
A year later are the rules here still 100% accurate with the new version?

@@GamingRulesVideos Thanks!
The new version has clearer iconography, as well, particularly when it comes to the hometowns.

The cards in the offer are indeed face up, so you choose what you are getting.

“Nothing, woohoo!” 😂
even after watching the vid on KS it still looks like a confusing game.
Depends what you compare it to. It's a lot cleaner and smoother than a lot of games.
Lots of commercials…
