    I've never known of more deserving human being than Tom Scholz for any fame or fortune he's acquired through the years he's not only a musical genius engineer producer song writer inventor and musician but he's also one of the most humble down to earth generous humans on the planet, he gives and has given so much of what he's earned over the years to those in need. It's no wonder he and Brad remained close over the years. Thank you "Tom Scholz" for all the lives you made better being you🙏🤘🏻

      @@kingofallwhites Tom Scholz made a lot of money outside Boston that Brad had no part in, including the Rockman line. And Scholz wrote most of the songs which means he earns the most money from the catalog. And he was the producer also and funded all the demos. That’s the way it works. Early on they split the touring money evenly, even for the guys that didn’t contribute much to the first record. And I’m guessing he’s had wise investments also. Tom was an MIT grad and an engineer at Polaroid. Brad worked at the Mr. Coffee factory before Boston. Who do you think is going to have the high net worth?

It just doesn't get any better than that. Absolutely the best concert I ever saw, hands down.

    As quoted in GuitarPlayer Magazine; “I had the organ set up right next to my 12-track Scully recorder, which had a massive flywheel spinning inside it,” says Scholz. “As I was tracking that solo-which, to this day, I still find to be pretty tricky to play-I reached into the tape machine with my free hand, and, with just the right touch, applied pressure to the flywheel, slowing the tape down during my last note. That resulted in the organ’s pitch rising when the tape was played back at normal speed. That wheel had some nasty spokes on it, too. There was real danger involved.”
    In this video you can see that he is playing an emulator of some sort with a pitch-bend wheel.

    • @McHale72
      @McHale72 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nope. Just saw them live a couple nights ago. On his Hammond there's a pot with a wheel on it (lying flat like a mini dinner plate) that he spun vigorously for pitch up and down.

      Thanks for the information!
      Well I'm a professional musician and I play the Hammond organ (not a Hammond tech though by any means). Anyway, here is what I know from many sources: Tom Scholz didn't have the money to buy a full sized Hammond for the 1976 album. He used a smaller "spinet" model: the M-3, which sounds fantastic: he definitely modded the heck out of it. Now he clearly uses a full sized Hammond (console model) live and of course he does the pitch bending a different, more reliable way. Always loved his DIY approach to music gear. His tone both on the organ and the guitar are still gold standards IMHO!

    • @McHale72
      @McHale72 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There are a couple close up vids on TH-cam showing him using the homemade mod whee (check out "Tom Scholz Organ Solo Red Rocks 2008" and "Boston - Ft. Lauderdale WALK ON w/ Organ Solo Tom Scholz 6-5-2014"). He also still uses the wheel break effect here and there. At the show the other night, I recorded him doing Foreplay/Longtime mainly because I wanted to hear how he was doing it now. I've been playing that song in various bands since I was a kid and still use it as a warmup. I'll try to get it uploaded soon.

    In the entertainment industry people use the word "genious" very often, well, perhaps in modern times there are few people that deserve that adjective...
    Tom Sholz is really a genius in my opinion.
    He is not just a top engineer, his music own classical music notes in many ways!

    There will never be another band like Black Sabbath,Judas Priest,Iron Maiden (the 3 godfathers of metal),Boston, or Rush. You have to also include Pat Benatar as well,not only for her awesome voice but Neil's amazingly multitalented guitar playing. Pat really helped to put women in rock on the map along with Heart,another kissass band. Eric Clapton,old slowhand, is one of the best guitarists as well.

    On their first (and best) album, Tom plays everything but the drums (played by Jim Masdea...and not Sib Hashian)...and he wrote the entire album, recorded it and even built the studio and effects pedals...so yeah...he's quite a handful!

      @@BOC4ALL yes that is correct. But it is true that Sib learned Jim’s parts from the demos and was copying Jim. Masdea “wrote” most of the original drum parts.

    • @marvinisit
      @marvinisit 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Masdea only played drum on the demos except one song of the actual album. Besides Scholz, who played most of the instruments on nearly all of the tracks, and Delp, other musicians appear on the album. Drummer Jim Masdea worked extensively with Scholz during the writing, arranging, and demo process and plays drums on one song on the final album, "Rock & Roll Band". Sib Hashian plays drums on the rest of the tracks. Guitarist Barry Goudreau and bassist Fran Sheehan, who joined the band after most of the tracks had been recorded, contribute some overdubs to "Foreplay/Long Time" and appear in the final track on the album, "Let Me Take You Home Tonight", which was recorded separately from the rest of the album.

    One thing to keep in mind is that Tom Scholz was a classically keyboardist first and a guitarist second. In fact, before Boston took off, he used to play keyboards for a band in the Boston area, not guitar.

      The tone generator in a real Hammond has more moving parts than your car. Also running in oil. As such they don't like to run cold. If it's to cold, maybe below say 55F, they wont start at all.
