First time I heard Walk On was live. It blew me away!!!!!
Tom Scholz is genius. A lot of that equip in the background was designed by him. 😮
Im confused, I saw Bostonia early 2000 (minus Delp of course) and Tom did not do the heavy guitar lick on Long Time as he was on organ. Is that just concert setting and he played it in the studio? As he did play quite a bit of lead that night.
Is there anything Tom can't do?
How cool is to see a rock star that looks like he just arrived from a pickup game of basketball?
Third Stage is their best album
Lord Scholtz!!
The lighting on him sucks Should be a straight color
geil werbung!
Thank`s Eliot...😎😎
got to see them in concert after the 2nd album....great show
Such an INCREDIBLY gifted group of musicians, held back by a bunch of Corporate music moguls. Yet Boston still produced some of the most iconic rock music ever recorded. Just imagine what they could have accomplished if they had the support and backing of equally visionary record company executives. Boston's music is legendary - but it could have been even more EPIC if their label had really embraced the genius of Tom Scholz and the band he put together.
Song wouldn't be the same without the tambourine
Chreap coneenes chines goods, A fat one. where is mt tie?
Reyas, she loves me, your square car,
she is chared evey momemt.
A woman>
Great but how about wooly bully watch it now 😮
Dear Hene Knodel....you made a mistake, Tom is playin no Hammondpart he is playin a Hammerpart! Kind regards from Germanistan my dear
I learned how to play this when my band told me they wanted to play “Smoking”. I had configured my Ensoniq SQ-1 keyboard to split the keys for the Hammond and the other bells-like sound during the quiet part. It went great and I melted playing it emotionally! That was 30 years ago and I wish I was still playing. 😊
WHEN? WHERE? why no post that info?
That was "Smokin"!
Best rock song ever!
Grabbing a beer, want one? Gonna pee too.
Tom is on another level.
One thing to keep in mind is that Tom Scholz was a classically keyboardist first and a guitarist second. In fact, before Boston took off, he used to play keyboards for a band in the Boston area, not guitar.
In the entertainment industry people use the word "genious" very often, well, perhaps in modern times there are few people that deserve that adjective... Tom Sholz is really a genius in my opinion. He is not just a top engineer, his music own classical music notes in many ways!
I studied that organ part a lot thinking good lord what is that, and how did he think of that. I like it very much but its all Toms he owns that part and its more then amazing piece of work.
Grandioso 🔥❤️
I'm a child of the '70's. Born in 58, graduated HS in 76. When their first album came out we had never heard anything like it. Because there hadn't been anything like it.
G.W. I graduated in '78.... We are some definitely lucky bastards.... As I tell younger kids, I may be old, but I got to see some COOL bands BACK IN THE DAY.... ❤️
Let me guess, you were the one blasting it out of your Camaro's 8 track player in front of Dairy Queen...
@@tommccormack6341 No. '66 Chevelle at the Shakeburger. That was probably my buddy Fudd in the Camero
Does anyone have a link to the entire concert?!
He's the 'mad scientist' of Rock.
I was able to see Boston when they first hit with their album, what a great concert.
Last I saw Boston was in 1978. Freshman at Purdue. They were awesome!
There will never be another band like Black Sabbath,Judas Priest,Iron Maiden (the 3 godfathers of metal),Boston, or Rush. You have to also include Pat Benatar as well, not only for her awesome voice but Neil's amazingly multitalented guitar playing. Pat really helped to put women in rock on the map along with Heart, another kissass band. Eric Clapton, old slowhand, is one of the best guitarists as well.
Great picks! I will throw Kansas in there. Carry on Wayward Son is in my top 5 rock songs. Their ballad Dust In The Wind is another timeless masterpiece.
Was that Burton Cummings up there as well? What event was this? They were definitely rockin’ out!!😎
if you look up 'musical genius' in the dictionary, there should be a picture of Scholz.
Boston was cursed by a first album so damn good it couldn't be followed with something as good or better. Nobody could live up to that mark, not even Boston.
it's definitely one of the greatest albums ever made
@@demonicsweaters Scholz might have been better off holding back 1 or 2 of the better tunes for a second album (assuming they could come up with reasonable material to fill the gap).
In another video on TH-cam, he goes back to the basement of the house where he made his first album. It took him SIX YEARS to make it! He fiddled with electronics and made much of his own gear. He submitted his tapes and got rejected repeatedly, until finally one exec showed some interest, and even then it was touch and go as the exec was leaving. Tom said that was going to be the final attempt, and if it didn't work, it was over. Can you IMAGINE!
For those who dont know, Tom literally was "Boston", its his, he built it, its still his, everyone else in that band, was a "hired gun"..
Nothing like the sound of a Hammond B3 played through a Leslie
Tom looks like he just got finished mowing the lawn and showed up at the gig.
Of all the different members to play in Boston Tom was an absolute genius. Not just because of his M.I.T education it was his God given talents. There would never have been a Boston without Tom Scholz.
The Hammond B3 and a Leslie speaker, was a rockers dream come true.
It was an M3, not a B3.
@@BillVincent hammond m3 has an internal speaker, the b3 used a Leslie speaker.
@@mdvener I don’t own either, but Tom mentioned it was an M3 on the record. Possible he mic’d it or modified it to run through the Leslie. He did stuff like that… lol
@@BillVincent very well could be. My Dad had a m3 when I was growing up and it had internal speakers. They both had a unique sound, but that Leslie put it over the top.
Did all the smart commenters realize when this clip has been uploaded? And that wasn't even right after the gig. Folks - boot up brains before commenting.
KIller tambourine playing!!
Foreplay Long time B3 is from another planet. Thank you Tom, Boston, never gets old always raises goosebumps 45 years later..
isn't it the keyboard solo from Smokin'?
It wasn't a B3. It was an M3.
Imagine being one of the roadies... always a sore back lol
The B3. Organ's electric guitar.
All due respect to Brad but his late live performances got somewhat "lazy". Probably his frame of mind. IMHO Tommy DeCarlo was a blessing for Tom.
One talented MOFO.
That was smokin'
