I loved the beginning where she wants to wear a deep backless dress and the tailor and mother are raining all over her parade but irfan's character assures her and gives her the exact dress she wants. I was swooning 🥺😍❤

This film exposed how FAKE, how superficial, how judgmental, how condescending the super rich in India are. Not just in India, this holds true all over South Asia. Sad but true.

I think it comes from the colonial rule and the idea of English supremacy. They left but a section of society took their positions and then rest of the society aspire to be them.
Not just south asia but the whole world ... you've got just experience of indian so you're bound in a box and you think this only happens in india ...but man I've studied in UK ... I've seen how judgemental people are in Europe too ...I saw no difference 😌🙏

In India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, it is extremely blatant and ruthless. I grew up in Bangladesh. People who are poor are treated like insects there.

This movie reminds me about nightmare I faced when I had to get my daughter admitted to Nursery class in Delhi. I used to wake up at 5 am to stand outside the school gate in Jan cold to get admission forms which opens at 8 am. I have applied in 35 schools but her name appeared in 2 different schools where me and my wife were alumni+ her being a first born girl child. 30 top schools(3000 seats )with at least 20k application from parents shows how competitive is education in Delhi. Thanks to Corona that now almost everything is online giving some relief to parents.

15:28 it's tru tho..😔 most schools do a point system while giving admissions and if the parents are graduates you get like 10 points and if they've done post graduation too then you get 20 points..12th pass parents hardly get any points..the distance thing is true too...also there's extra points I you're an only girl child or if you have a sibling already studying in the school..there's a LOT of criteria..
I know.. Coz my school is in Delhi. They're just the worst kind. After all this criteria, so many forms, entrance exam & an interview, my parents still had to pay a hefty donation to get admission in that school.
I think this happens in big cities , coz never heard any of this kind in my city though
The fun starts after intermission.. It's an excellent movie. Both Irfan and Pappi Bhaiya 🤣 are amazing.

I ame from Sri Lanka, but went through some thing similar when I wanted to get my kid into a school. Only, it was the opposite of here, the fight is for the government schools. We even leased a nearby address, had all our official documents diverted to that, lived there, changed our voter's registration etc, only for the govt to introduce a new regulation which disqualified us. After many interviews, shady middle men, anxiety attacks and false hopes, my babies are now attending a private school. This movie reminded me of the same nightmare.

Also, here's another suggestion for a watchalong with Johnny: *Phillauri* , with Anushka Sharma & Diljit Dosanjh (his Bollywood debut). It was released in 2017, same year as Hindi Medium and it was my 2nd favourite that year. It's a mix of fantasy, comedy & period drama. It's an underrated lovely little gem, I think you guys would like its vibes! 🙂

I remember when I was taking admission in school I passed all the interence exam and I have to be present there next day for interview with my parents
My mom was sick so I just went with my dad and they refused to take interview without my mom
And in almost every private school it is a rule that of have to talk in English all the time
In many schools you have to even pay fine if by mistake you spoke something in your mother tongue
But this happens only in delhi or mumbai...chota shere k skl m etna bakchodi ni hota h😁 chup chap fees bharo or padhai kro
