My Frenchie's nickname is Farty McFerguson. We have a big yard. He gets zoomies and runs around the yard until he's out of breath and comes to lay down. We had his nasal nares surgically opened when we had him neutered. His breathing is so much better and doesnt snore as much as he had prior. He's my little sweetie and SO HIGH maintenance. He LOVES the water and we have to fight to keep him out of water, including when my shower!
Sounds about right. Our adopted Frenchie "Rocky" (his previous owners named him, so I did not change his name) is all the above. He gets over anxious when he plays and kind of bites. When he gets that way, I've trained him by saying "nice" to him. He simmers down and that point and will apologize by licking me. They are awesome little dogs, but need way more attention than "Hondo" ( my 16 year old Chihuahua, who passed in July 2023). I will continue to read these. I appreciate any opportunity to get more info about the breed. Jeannette
Our 1 year frenchie gets crazy zoomies and will jump off the couch and practicly fly across the yard. she really loves to run and jump. I'm so concerned now. But I have no idea how I'd even slow her down. She is a wild child.
You dictate when and how much she exercises. If she’s tired from walks and playtime she will manage her excitement better. Zoomies are still triggered mentally. The problem is most people don’t try to discourage it because they think it’s cute at first. Just like everything else it’s part of learned behavior. I let mine go nuts for a short period because it’s funny to me… for a little bit 😂 When it’s no longer entertaining I just redirect attention with toys or treats. Projecting a calm relaxed energy makes a huge difference. Pick them up and speak softly and gently while Petting them transfers your energy. Good luck and enjoy!

Aloha, My son moved back home to Hawaii for work and we ended up caring for his little Frenchie, here in Oregon, love her and learning so much and will watch your channel for pointers! Yes to the foam stair’s, Zoomies, she was fixed and has had Brachy surgery, we are retired so home alot, so clingy is not a problem. Mahalo Nui see you and your pup again soon!
Glad to find your channel for vet advice. Frenchie owner of five years and yes they are a great breed. If you like clingy and needy and moody, they are the breed for you. Regarding tips, if I could add a few more since you pup is still shiny and brand new, the breed has skin and respiratory allergies, that can be remedied by two affordable resources. Apple cider vinegar and Loratadine. The apple cider vinegar is great for cleaning paws and wrinkles to remove grass oil and reduce yeast/bacteria build up. Coupled with coconut oil, there should be very little itching or prolonged skin issues. Every once in a while, after a bath, I will rinse him off with apple cider vinegar to make sure it get all under his coat. He shakes it off, I dry his coat and he's good to go. I've tried cytopoint and other allergy meds, and personally, I hated given him those knowing we were regular outside peeps. I needed something else since the meds were barely getting the job done. So yeah, no more allergy issues with the vinegar and the loratdine. It also cut the snoring for Him. Granted his muzzle is not as compressed as other frenchies. Regarding the gassy feature, mine never smells anymore. I nipped that by 9 mos by cooking his food, and it's been good to go every since. I can hold his poop too my nose and it's not foul. We eat clean so that plays into, but after spending all the money to get him, I want him around to the max time I can get. He's my best friend so I give him the best even if he annoys the mess out of me!! But yeah, no running me out of my own room. Lastly, and there's a lot of tips, but I always clean his paws everytime we walk in. I don't want him carrying anything onto the places he sits, lounges and sleeps because then it can transfer to other places on him, and once an issue starts, finding the culprit can get expensive! So yeah, clean paws, healthy pup, clean furniture and bedding. Also clean the bedding weekly. Again, by dog is outside regularly. We walk maybe 4-5 miles a day, so he can get pretty dirty sometimes. I like a clean bed, so I want him to have the same. I always keep bed sheets on tap to place wherever needed to collect fur, dander, etc and then I can easily remove it and shake out in the mornings to start somewhat clean until we get to Friday's when the old goes in the washer and the clean replaces. Alright. Congrats on joining the frenchie family. You're more of a trooper than I am. I'm not clingy but he is my best friend as I know yours is becoming as well. Thanks for the vid!
My frenchie also gets the zoomies quite often. She cracks me up and Flys through the air into my bigger dogs bed. She's crazy with a personality to match.
Thank you for this fun video of tips on owning a French Bulldog! I have a 3 year old pug and she is my third one. They are also brachycephalic as you mentioned . They’re also Velcro dogs and great with kids ! My husband has recently mentioned how much he loves the French Bulldog breed and how when his big 14 year old old dog passes he thinks we might should get one. My only objection is the overbreeding and the enormous cost of these precious babies now! We live in West Texas and it is very difficult to find many dog breeds close by. My daughter and I drove to Houston to get my sweet Pug Ellie and it was a long but worth it trip. I know there are a lot of rescues for these precious babies specifically for French bulldogs and other special breeds that people might want to look into. There are even puppies that need loving homes. As the price of the French bulldog is in the thousands in most cases maybe rescuing might be for you if you really want this breed. My daughter did and she has given a loving home to a Frenchie and a Pug both wonderful loving dogs! Thanks again for you great video!❤🐶
Thank you so much this was so helpful my frenchie is 4 months old and somehow finds his way up on the coffee table and jumps off, so now I know he needs to be careful!♡
@@boxermom6103 Spot pet insurance, with preventive care,,, so far so good. But I did research, before getting it, it seemed most pet insurances were almost similar when it came to what was covered and the premiums. Hopefully 🤞 it is good

Thank you Lindsey! My fiance just got me a Frenchie. She wasn't my first choice of dog. I wanted a Yorkie, but I'm happy with my Frenchie and I thank you for all of the knowledge you shared. ❤
When I first got my Frenchie, she was always passing gas. Very foul smell. But it’s actually not normal. We changed her food started feeding her better and she hasn’t had any gas since and we’ve had her for a while. I’m guessing the previous owners were just feeding or anything possibly even regular food 😑🙁. We love her soo much. My first dog ❤
I know your a dog/pet professional but maybe you haven't had your franchie long enough to know this yet. They love/need exercise to get out that energy. Short walks several times a week helps. Never in the heat though. Think fall and winter and night time. I live in Cali so that is what I do. Of course, if you live in a cooler climate use your judgement as far as weather but NEVER hot and NEVER a long walk. We go on a 15 minute walks about 3 to 4 times a week when weather permits. Also, be mindful of their little short legs. We walk much faster than their little short legs. So they will be running or walking very fast and their breathing can be compromised. Look at your baby and adjust accordingly. They love water but only shallow water. Think baby pool. Require lots of vet visits related to ears and skin, heavy on the skin issues at least for my male. He has lots of food allergies that manifest as skin issues. I have 3 frenchies. While they do pass gas it is NOT frequent as I have them on a very high quality food. Red Barn that is essentially air dried meat and zignature dry kibble to stretch the red barn because it is great for allergies and it doesn't have a lot of fillers that are cancer causing to our pups. Very important to me. But that being said it is very expensive and not accessible to everyone. We tried raw but my pups didn't care for it too much, unfortunately. Not our raw because it doesn't have all the nutrients they need but pet store raw infused with the nutrients they need which is also expensive but way better than dept store or grocery store food or even traditional pet store food like Petco or Petsmart food. We go to Ben's Bark place which is a small place that sells dog and cat food of exceptional quality. I am saying unfortunately due to experience and learning that dog foods as mentioned before contain a lot of carcinogens. Bulldogs of all types require great care. I have owned American, English, and now French. While bulldog is in the name they all have differences but also have commonalities. Expensive to buy and expensive to keep. Hope this helps new owners and those interested in purchasing.
Lovely! Thank you for sharing this video with us🥰 We have a 4 month puppy home and we’re in love with our frenchie! He’s adorable and extremely sweet ❤️
i remember reading that puppies shouldnt be engaging in strenuous physical activity cuz their bones are still developing. running for too long is not encouraged either. maybe walking down the stairs was too much for his front legs cuz he carries a lot of weight (they are pretty heavy dogs).
Thank you for all the useful information. My adult daughter has a frenchie and I can confirm everything you said is accurate. I want one of my own - do you have any tips for how to select a breeder?
I will be getting a frenchie in a few weeks, it’s great to hear from a “vet mom” I saw you used squish face paste over desitin, for the wrinkles. As of now do you still feel it is safer and as effective, considering the price difference? Thanks!
Well, the first thing to know is that you don't actually "own a Frenchie", it's more of an "arrangement", wherein you try to get the little guys cooperation....lol😂😂
I have heard Frenchies are prone to separation anxiety. Do you take him to work? Do you crate him? Thinking of getting a dog but I have a busy schedule
Yes they are, but training helps. I used to take him to work with me and now I leave him in the cage and he has no issues, doesn't even whine and fairly quiet. I feed him in his cage when I leave for work in the morning so he doesn't associate the cage with being a "bad" place, which I think makes a difference!
I bathe Rocco approximately once a month! He’s a really silly boy so he doesn’t seem to mind too much and then tries to attack the towel and get the zoomies afterwards lol. They are silly and all have their own personality so you have to figure out what works best. I do it myself but you could always take them to the groomers as an alternative and make someone else do it.
Omg I am a disabled veteran. I just rescue dogs mostly that are mixed. I had a flare for bird dogs in my day but as my limitations grew I had the chance to love on Chihuahuas or any little baby. This guy (Wilson) is a zooming shitster . I love him but is it a bad idea for me to keep him. I have all the rest of it covered
@@lindseynichol94 What type of Purina food do you feed him, may I ask? Treats? I will be getting a Frenchie soon and am excited and nervous! Thanks for the education!
Hey I jus came across your videos and I had a question about becoming a vet I hope your doing well! Im not sure if you’ve ever watchedthe show “Vet Life” all of the brothers on there work on small animals ( house pets) but one or more of the brothers also work on exotic animals such as different birds, lizards, chipmunks , flying squirrels etc. and even go on call to near by farms to neuter certain animals I wondered which of theses does this fall under? Or would the be small animals vets with exotic specialties? Or large animal vets?
Yes- I love that show!! I’ve met Dr. Blue before numerous times. But they would fall under “mixed animal vet” where they work on small and large and I know one of them works primarily on exotic animals too.
YES- they can. People think because they are short haired they don’t shed but that’s not true. Trying to brush as often as possible is how I can try and get around that!
Hello doctor friend, I have a channel about veterinary science in Brazil, I would like to know if I can show your videos on my channel to my Brazilian followers? Thank you very much for your videos, they help me a lot
RESEARCH! That's what is most important. I had a friend who is a veterinarian and he was very trustworthy- I have a very healthy Frenchie so it was well worth it.
Me not fully focusing on the screen but still being attentive to what is being said, so I was sat watching for minutes thinking her top said ‘PIMP’. 😂 The world is so loose with it’s morals today so that would not have even seemed out of place… 👀
@@lindseynichol94 Heyy thanks for replying. Just want to say thanks for the upload, you helped me to decided that yes I will take on a Frenchie! Her name is Pookie (or Pucci like the brand😅) and she's been the best decision I've made for a while, all the best and once again thank you! Can't believe it's been two months already.
sry to be the grinch - but there is exactly one thing to know before you get a french Bulldog: DO NOT GET A FRENCH BULLDOG. Other than that - get insurance and good luck. This is not about their character but these health issues a serious. And I mean serious. Last week we had 5 frenchies on our ward after Spinal disc surgery and this summer just started and we had the first hyperthermic brachycephalic incidents. Some of our patients had spinal surgery done 4 times. And please believe me its expensive and a torture for the dog.
Not the Grinch at all- I’ve done extensive research and do everything I can to prevent some of the issues. I also knew to get insurance right away and to get him the airway surgery to help! All you’re doing is informing people and that’s perfectly fine! As long as people know the risks and what they are getting themselves into, no matter what breed of dog.

Getting my first in couple days he’s a little older six months blue rindle your video helps a lot how do you deal with bathing ?
I bathe Rocco approximately once a month! He’s a really silly boy so he doesn’t seem to mind too much and then tries to attack the towel and get the zoomies afterwards lol. They are silly and all have their own personality so you have to figure out what works best. I do it myself but you could always take them to the groomers as an alternative and make someone else do it.
I have a 4 month old and she woke up with a small hernia 😢 I'm scared 😢
How is your pup doing?❤
@starfire1146 it went away thankfully 🥰 thank you for asking ☺️
What brand of dog food do you feed your frenchie?
Purina Proplan sensitive skin and stomach!
I find feeding my frenchie lamb kibble she has ALOT LESS gas
Rocco barely has gas anymore on Purina and when he does, it doesn’t really smell. It was worse as a puppy!
@@lindseynichol94 What type of Purina food do you feed him, may I ask? Treats? I will be getting a Frenchie soon and am excited and nervous! Thanks for the education!
Hey I jus came across your videos and I had a question about becoming a vet I hope your doing well! Im not sure if you’ve ever watchedthe show “Vet Life” all of the brothers on there work on small animals ( house pets) but one or more of the brothers also work on exotic animals such as different birds, lizards, chipmunks
, flying squirrels etc. and even go on call to near by farms to neuter certain animals I wondered which of theses does this fall under? Or would the be small animals vets with exotic specialties? Or large animal vets?
Yes- I love that show!! I’ve met Dr. Blue before numerous times. But they would fall under “mixed animal vet” where they work on small and large and I know one of them works primarily on exotic animals too.
They often have serious breathing problems because of thier short snouts.
Yes they do. Research is SO IMPORTANT when it comes to these breeds.
Do frenchies sheds a lot?
YES- they can. People think because they are short haired they don’t shed but that’s not true. Trying to brush as often as possible is how I can try and get around that!
My frenchie female, Dani, her but area seems to be very dark. She is 1. Is this normal?
I would go take her to her regular vet to get checked out.
Hello doctor friend, I have a channel about veterinary science in Brazil, I would like to know if I can show your videos on my channel to my Brazilian followers? Thank you very much for your videos, they help me a lot
No, you could direct them to my channel- thank you!
tldr; If you have stairs, don't get a Frenchie.
We have stairs and have a frenchie 🤔
May I know how much do you pay for his adoption?
Oh wow 😂😂😂😂 I never noticed that!
Где ваш Роко ?? 😳😳🥺
С ним всё хорошо ??? 🥺🥺🤔
Aww he need some milk
He needs more surgeries soon
Why do we keep breeding these animals with health issues? 😣
Привет 👋👋👋👋🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺😊😊😊😊😊
sry to be the grinch - but there is exactly one thing to know before you get a french Bulldog: DO NOT GET A FRENCH BULLDOG.
У нашего очень плоская морда .... очень сопит и храпит... будем делать гастроскопию и вместе с этим посмотрим какая нёбная занавеска .😳😩
They must smell horrible yuck
