Every angle....EVERY ANGLE of this car reminds me of my first car, a 1997 Nissan Altima. Man, I hated that stubborn car. That thing was utterly hopeless, but I could beat on it all year long and it would just REFUSE to die. I almost miss it.
Theyre so fucked up now. Time was not kimd to the pintara. I really liked the smaller U12 bluebird based pintaras too. My mate had a gum metal grey TRX hot version. 2.4ltr i think and 5 spd manual. was a fantastic first car. I was pretty jealous he found it for $4,500. this was mid 2000's. Really hard find now
I miss my R31 Ti skyline, man it was such a luxurious car to own. i was shocked to have a fuel economy metre in L per 100k in god damn 89 models, power windows climate control. they were mint AF
Stephen Jay and the funniest thing about them is when they were new the top spec r31 was still cheaper than a base VL commodore with no power windows, power steering , air con or radio haha
I own an R33 GTS. Yes a GTS. I’m a student and can’t afford a GTR. It makes me happier and it’s something I don’t think I’ll ever give up. Truth be told I’ve always fantasized over owning something like a skyline. Is it powerful? No. Is it Glamorous? No. But it does two things really well. It makes me smile when I drive it, and other people who own much nicer cars wave at me while driving, as well as makes other people smile when they see it. It’s not a “special” car like he said, but it’s special to me and has made my world a better place.
A turbo Skyline is like a WRX, a non turbo is like a base model Impreza, and an GTR will be slightly above an STI. Also, I like things that aren't special. It's ok to love regular cars, and don't let a guy in his expensive sports car tell you not to cherish your car. Sure, you should be open to bigger and better things, but there's value in regular cars. I would like to someday have a nice 4 door Turbo r32 Skyline, but only because I like the styling and would want a nice practical and fun midsized rwd sedan. Besides, you can take it to car shows and stuff.
I was debating between an early 2000's WRX and R33 GTS-t (they are a similar price in Australia) and found it pretty interesting that given that the GTS-t is more powerful than an '04 model but only RWD which results in them having the same 0-100km/h time.
actually i agree with you. Super expensive sports cars are dream cars. The ideal car is fast, not frightenly fast, but also economical and practical. Confortable, yet easy to park and throw around narrow streets. A gearbox that allows the car to gain movement at a decent rate, but shuts the engine up to 1800 rpm at 70mph with CC on. Some kind of B-Segment station-wagon with a 1.6 turbo developing near 200hp with power going to all 4 wheels.
Andrew GTB the R32 is legal in the US because it is now more than 25 years old. The only snag to make it expensive besides the importation is the smog process unless you live in a state where that is not required.
>buy someones dads Taurus for $2000 >drive it until one thing is wrong >drive it until it won't pass inspection >scrap it I did that with a '99 Taurus wagon for my first 2 years driving. I drove that thing from 119k-160k. RIP Waggy.
A base shit-spec Skyline is still more special than any Maxima or Taurus because it's rear wheel drive (this GTS-4 spec excepted). You can swap an LS1 into a base shit-spec R33, you can drift it, you can make a track car out of it. Can't do that with those big heavy front wheel peelers. It's like a four door 240SX! It's like a reliable E36 with cheaper parts! That's literally the perfect car!
danehb89 yeah, they're all luxury cars. Or the Cressida. Most of those '90s rwd cars were never imported. Don't get me wrong, this car isn't more special than a Cefiro, Laurel, Mark II, Chaser, Cresta... But I can't buy those either.
halo isn't a game halo is -a franchise- _an experience_ (that's sometimes interesting but never truly lives up to its potential thanks to troubled development cycles)
I disagree, I love the unique rear taillights and the rb25/26 is probably my favourite engine of all time. Put about 10k into it and a lot of time, get that bad boy revving to 9k/10k with 500whp and an exhaust note that will make anyone’s head turn.
So I’m standing in my girlfriends moms kitchen trying to be one of the first views. And the warning to turn your volume down comes on way too late. Good on you Mr Regular, good on you
Yeah mate, but nobody gives a toss about "Skylines". They care about GTR's, and GTR's are still special. Also, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia isn't "the rest of the world". It's actually a very small part of the world. You don't see Skylines; either stock crap or GTR's, in Europe, South America, most of Asia, or Africa. They have to be privately imported, just like in North America.
theres plenty of sklines in asia (japan and china are asian) theres plenty of skylines in the UK which im sure translates to the rest of Europe and no shit there isnt skylines in africa there isnt anything in africa.
Skylines were sold in the middle eastern countries like UAE, Oman, Kuwait and such from the 70's all the way to 1989. They were mostly regular everyday cars but there were car enthusiasts fans of them...long before Fast and Furious or NFS Underground were a thing.
I remember when the G35/37s came out and people were importing skyline badges from. "In Japan, this is a Skyline. It's a Skyline, bro." "Yes," I replied, "yes it is."
The thing about the Skyline series that I love is that it's really a decent car even if it isn't the holy GT-R. Good, reliable engine that you can tune (Just slap on an OEM R34 turbo from a GTS-t or GT-R, and that's all you need), they're nice, comfy, and make all the right sounds. The fact that you compared it to that maxima the way you did only reassured me of my position on skylines. I would happily buy one of these, at most make it a 4-door GT-R with 400hp, and daily it. And 400 is MORE than enough for a daily.
I used to say just about everything you just said over 10 years ago on forums when people would gush about non-GTR Skylines and got attacked with the most mouth-foaming opposition ever. I do like that they're rear wheel drive at least, but the normal Skylines are worlds apart from the GTR. People just think they're special because they aren't sold in the US, so they're unique and seen as rare. Also, the "OMG 1000 HP with just a tune!" myth doesn't help considering it costs like $100,000+ to get 1000 HP, and then it's an undriveable mess that requires race fuel and basically can't be driven outside of a drag strip. TL;DR most car bros are dumb and don't know anything.
Mr Regular how long will it be until you realise the loss of the Falcon and Commodore is a loss to the world? *tears* I'll be alright, just gimme a minute :'(
Nope, nope the only option now is backwards, and at the same time nope there's nothing as cheap as an SS/XR8 anymore so I'm going back to 1998 for an old Holden *more tears* I'll be fine, I just need to go back to the good old days D'':
The falcon is a real loss with the barra turbo engine, was Australia's best homegrown tuning engine, maybe even the worlds if given the chance... The commodore was just an Opel with an LS.. Australia loved the wrong car.
James Thom yeah but you think the prices in the US are going to be rational the time we get the R34s around here.... I'm guessing six figures for a decent one sadly.
cardesinr I actually think they are so sought after mainly because you can't have them yet, once they are legal they will eventually lose the attraction... And the silly price. Don't see many on UK roads now either.
I have a 94 r33 gts25 AT. No rust. 90k kilometers on the clock. Clean interior. Threw some nice wheels on it and I daily it. I’m not trying to make it something it’s not. But let me tell you, slowly driving around the burbs In the Midwest, it’s special. People love it even if it doesn’t shoot flames and make turbo noises. It’s awesome.
Alright let's not detach from RCR's brilliant video here detailing the differences in Skyline's, but I've been living and working in Europe for almost a year now, and this video has given me some slightly homesick feelings due to it being filmed literally outside my house, that entire Flat Bush neighborhood is somewhere I'm super familiar with. I fucking love these RCR NZ Videos, so glad to see the NZ Car Scene getting some love. Reminds me of TST's NZ run as well. Thanks RCR!
Thank you RCR. For teaching the F&F fanboys that the skyline lineup has about 20-30cars other then the GTR. I first realized this when I was 10. We went to the Grand Cayman Islands on a cruise and my head popped off seeing R33 GT type M Sedans all over the place. Until I realized they were all auto's and daily's.
Lol dont lecture me about skylines, im from nz and i own a 20det rfb spec cefiro hah. What im saying is i still *notice* a 20e 4door 33, even if it is a heap of shit compared to say a camry or a (insert modern shitbox here) Any rwd car has clout
beyondthelol well, my apologies. I assumed you were american because most people are lol. I notice them, but only because I have an american friend thats a massive skyline fanboy so I take pictures of them to send to him to make him jealous we get skylines and to show to him they're actually mostly boring shitboxes lol
I still love the Skyline! A GTS-t R32 is my dream car. One of those, in red, lowered on GTR wheels, GTS-t hood but GTR N1 bumper, N1 lip spoiler only, and a built RB30DE. That's my dream JDM car!

May be this is a non-USA thing but in the rest of the world the little tree air fresheners are the most common brand, we have them her in Ireland also.
People will colect as many as they possibly can in their car. In europe you will find them in almost all old Volvo's and BMW's. you're not supposed to take them down, because having a lot of them gives you a wunderbaum forest. and that's cool for some reason
I had a R33 GTST Sedan fro 7 years of dependable service. Turbo and M-Spec suspension (Very stiff) makes a difference. The heater also rotted out. Mine was in Go Faster black..
It's like me longing for an EG(5th Gen Honda Civic) because of the few memories i had when i was 9, in that little time period of a few months, after my mom sold her RX-8 and got our Grandma's old, rusty 1994 EG9(VTi/SiR Sedan) with a broken muffler and my dad(who has a VERY heavy right foot) used it sometimes. I still remember us driving around in it, the sunroof open, windows down and my dad flooring it. The VTEC kicked in and it was like that AMG GTR my dad took me for a ride in once and we did 260 kmh. Civic VTi=160 bhp, AMG GTR=585 bhp, VTi>GTR. Honda is boss.
These cars absolutely hammer, especially for the price. 5sp manual, RB25DET. ~200kg lighter than the GT-Rs and internals happy to work with 250rwkw. No, they're never going to beat a GTR, but they're 1/4 the cost and can easily do low 12s with a few mods.
Oh no, we're not falling for this again. First we adopt your imperial units and you go switching to metric. Then we try taking up your sport you call soccer and you switch to saying it can only be called football. So we know perfectly well that as soon as we start driving on the left, you'll switch to driving on the right like the rest of the world and leave us as the only idiots doing the opposite. Well not this time. This time we're sticking with the majority and YOU get to be the weirdos!
please, it's not a "show" it s an S H O! Show hurts my ears. S H O, with all the glorious spaces between the letters making them individual and memorable. Show... pffftgrmmmphhhh uggggg
Excuses excuses, you said to kill himself because he want an auto Skyline then make a comeback by saying "nah, I can't get just why auto cars exist", if you cant grasp such fact exist then why involve him in your afterthought?
That description of a Taurus gets even better if you live in a place that doesn't subject vehicles to regular inspections or even an inspection when you buy it like I do. You can find those things for $500 sometimes here and the only time a vehicle needs to pass inspection here is if its imported, just had major repair work like after a crash or if for some reason law enforcement thinks you need an inspection for "safety reasons"
When I was younger, I was into Nissan cars for a bit. The Exterra and 350z stood out to me, but I also had a fascination with the Skyline for just how incredibly average it looked. I've enjoyed the sleeper aesthetic ever since.

Unco Casey yeah silvias cheap power but those sr engines arent quite as cheap per hp.
a video of a skyline in New Zealand without doing a skid? A rare sight needs more RFB.
Holy shit last time i was this early america didn't have any skylines
Every angle....EVERY ANGLE of this car reminds me of my first car, a 1997 Nissan Altima. Man, I hated that stubborn car. That thing was utterly hopeless, but I could beat on it all year long and it would just REFUSE to die.
I almost miss it.
If only you could have reviewed a R31 pintara. OH BOY
Arrrfurty wun
I miss the days when these were everywhere in Australia :(
Theyre so fucked up now.
@@miaugato93 you are basically correct. Add 50 or 100 horses to that, and i agree.
Andrew GTB the R32 is legal in the US because it is now more than 25 years old. The only snag to make it expensive besides the importation is the smog process unless you live in a state where that is not required.
>buy someones dads Taurus for $2000
>drive it until one thing is wrong
>drive it until it won't pass inspection
>scrap it
I did that with a '99 Taurus wagon for my first 2 years driving. I drove that thing from 119k-160k. RIP Waggy.
Cam St. Peter 2003 Taurus for me until the transmission gave out. I had it from 2013-2017. RIP Taurus
Drive it till it wont pass inspection... and then drive it some more yolo
Emmission checks should be illegal
A base shit-spec Skyline is still more special than any Maxima or Taurus because it's rear wheel drive (this GTS-4 spec excepted). You can swap an LS1 into a base shit-spec R33, you can drift it, you can make a track car out of it. Can't do that with those big heavy front wheel peelers. It's like a four door 240SX! It's like a reliable E36 with cheaper parts! That's literally the perfect car!
There are like a hundred rear drive Japanese sedans from the 80s and 90s that fit the same mark though. Especially in the bigger luxury car segment.
danehb89 yeah, they're all luxury cars. Or the Cressida. Most of those '90s rwd cars were never imported.
Don't get me wrong, this car isn't more special than a Cefiro, Laurel, Mark II, Chaser, Cresta... But I can't buy those either.
Why would you ruin with a 600lb LS engine?
@@thenismoman4854 belive it or not, a fully dressed ls1 weights in at a slim 450 lbs, or about the same as a rb25, funnily enough.
>not a 20e
Disappointed
the official car of the dude who get triggered when you say that halo isnt a perfect game
Ah yes, "triggered" jokes. A fine 2001 vintage of humor you've got there, but it's showing its age.
halo isn't a game
halo is -a franchise- _an experience_ (that's sometimes interesting but never truly lives up to its potential thanks to troubled development cycles)
Majatek no halo is a game
Which Halo?
I mean, there’s the good ones from Bungie and the total shit from 343
Halo 2 bro.
Good on you Mr Regular, good on you
Austin Rutledge Get your priorities in order!
After watching this, it only solidified my desire for the sedan's.
Plenty of countries got Skylines and similar, they were often just called something different. Like the C210 Skyline was a Datsun 240K
theres plenty of sklines in asia (japan and china are asian) theres plenty of skylines in the UK which im sure translates to the rest of Europe and no shit there isnt skylines in africa there isnt anything in africa.
@@lukespencer6846 there isn't anything in africa. Hm. Thank you for enlightening us, Livingston
It's a Skyline, bro."
"Yes," I replied, "yes it is."
Using the song of time as the outro haha, this is why i keep watching.
I love the fact it's a basic 90s inline 6 sedan from Japan
Don't care if it's just a regular car, I still absolutely adore those tailights! I could see myself in one, if they were sold in the States...
6:04 "And the clutch pedal squeals like Henry Hill!"
Those kinds of comparisons are why I love RCR!
Mr Regular how long will it be until you realise the loss of the Falcon and Commodore is a loss to the world?
*tears* I'll be alright, just gimme a minute :'(
Not much options for V8s with Holden and Ford out of the picture...I believe you'd have to go all the way to a C63 AMG if you want a V8 sports sedan.
Nope, nope the only option now is backwards, and at the same time nope there's nothing as cheap as an SS/XR8 anymore so I'm going back to 1998 for an old Holden
*more tears* I'll be fine, I just need to go back to the good old days D'':
The falcon is a real loss with the barra turbo engine, was Australia's best homegrown tuning engine, maybe even the worlds if given the chance... The commodore was just an Opel with an LS.. Australia loved the wrong car.
And I think the US made the LS for you and shipped it over yonder.
Well people should of been buying them then!
One of the few TH-cam advertisements that work. I bought that damn Automation game and it's worth every penny.
At First I heard "do you remember the last JETTA"
jivkokatz me too hahaha
same, made me shutter a bit.
I had to double take that one
Great vid. Im not a Skyline fan boy, just a GTR fanboy. Its irrational from the hype, I know, but I still want one....
cardesinr Not irrational to want a GTR, they are the Mutts Nutts..and I drive an F430
Don't see many on UK roads now either.
ls7orBust lol...yeah, because its all about the interior. They are far better driving car than any LS swapped rep mobile
cardesinr Paying 6 figures for a R34 is ridiculous but I know it’ll happen
I love how at like 1:04 there's an R34 parked on a driveway
I have a 94 r33 gts25 AT. No rust. 90k kilometers on the clock. Clean interior. Threw some nice wheels on it and I daily it. I’m not trying to make it something it’s not. But let me tell you, slowly driving around the burbs In the Midwest, it’s special. People love it even if it doesn’t shoot flames and make turbo noises. It’s awesome.
We’ve had skylines here for a while as Infinitis. As the GT-R R35 was separated from the line. But I still get people call R35s “Skylines” here.
because theyy idiotttts
Alright let's not detach from RCR's brilliant video here detailing the differences in Skyline's, but I've been living and working in Europe for almost a year now, and this video has given me some slightly homesick feelings due to it being filmed literally outside my house, that entire Flat Bush neighborhood is somewhere I'm super familiar with.
I fucking love these RCR NZ Videos, so glad to see the NZ Car Scene getting some love. Reminds me of TST's NZ run as well. Thanks RCR!
*YEAH I'M ON A BOAT.*
>shows r33
Thank you RCR. For teaching the F&F fanboys that the skyline lineup has about 20-30cars other then the GTR. I first realized this when I was 10. We went to the Grand Cayman Islands on a cruise and my head popped off seeing R33 GT type M Sedans all over the place. Until I realized they were all auto's and daily's.
*MY CAMSHAFT IS SO HARD!*
RCR in old form. Loving it
Rear door on right side is not original(Different color). Hmm???
People often overlook 4 door Skylines. They are great platforms too for drifting.
well i mean theyre *kinda* special, i mean any skyline is still tiers above a regular econobox
Lol dont lecture me about skylines, im from nz and i own a 20det rfb spec cefiro hah.
What im saying is i still *notice* a 20e 4door 33, even if it is a heap of shit compared to say a camry or a (insert modern shitbox here)
Any rwd car has clout
beyondthelol well, my apologies.
Oh look, a Stagea sedan.
it's not a Laurel!
"clutch pedal squeals like Henry Hill". Love it!
No views and one like. Does RCR like his own videos?
Imperial Productions correct.
The view count gets "stuck" from time to time. It's a somewhat well known TH-cam glitch, it's done this for years.
weasel2htm good comment
this is the best balanced review, absurd intro, tons of info for those who dont understand the whole skyline fetish.... and absolute perfect outro song
Can someone please explain to me why sporty Japanese cars all have little trees air fresheners?
May be this is a non-USA thing but in the rest of the world the little tree air fresheners are the most common brand, we have them her in Ireland also.
People will colect as many as they possibly can in their car. In europe you will find them in almost all old Volvo's and BMW's. you're not supposed to take them down, because having a lot of them gives you a wunderbaum forest. and that's cool for some reason
Tanks for the info guys I couldn’t find anything on the internet. On an unrelated note, do you own that Supra Chris?
Yeah, I drive a Supra and a nissan cube is my daily, I used to drive a Chaser Tourer V.
Chris McEvoy damn that’s one hell of a setup you’ve got going there. I can’t wait to get my sz for dailying in a few months :)
I had a R33 GTST Sedan fro 7 years of dependable service. Turbo and M-Spec suspension (Very stiff) makes a difference. The heater also rotted out. Mine was in Go Faster black..
Probably the best summary of a Skyline ever "eh whatever"... But the Skyline GT-R to the rest of the automotive world is "OH FUCK!"
I like the placement of the blinker.
The US Market needs more regular cars with AWD and not shit wheel drive
Mario on the Moon Subaru Impreza 2.0i manual
Subaru literally has that market locked down, save for a few A4s.
Nobody else can make em cheaper
Most us cars have awd, have you not seen 5 billion suv's on the road lately?
JohnnySDVR cars as in sedans
That scene was so classically RCR, I needed that. Though overall a great video as usual
318i's are slow as shit tho, I've beat them in my Focus SE.
Yeah, a better choice is a 330ci as they're not as expensive as M3s but still can give you plenty of power for the money.
Sooo, in other countries, skyline is like an awd altima?
ayee FD2R at 6.17
Great video guys from a guy who used to own a R32 GTR (640bhp) oh I miss her.... but thank God it wasn't a boat
Do an altezza while your here
Or he can come back and do an older Lexus IS 300--oh-wait...
Your Star Wars comment was most poignant
Great episode, can't wait to see what's next😁
FD2!!
This isn't a DET though
Yeah, I'm just saying though.
A non-turbo Skyline is about as useful as a paperweight in a world where paper doesn't exist. Awful cars.
They're also 1/5th the price of a turbo Skyline. So its not completely useless. And remember the mighty E banger will outlast any DET.
did you enjoy driving on the correct side of the road?
Mr DribbleShit stfu
Dont be mad at me, you're the one doing it wrong.
That response was gold! ;D
looked like he was favoring the shoulder a bit lol
me: I want a Skyline.
mom: We have Skyline at home.
Skyline at home:
But it is a Skyline.
please, it's not a "show" it s an S H O! Show hurts my ears. S H O, with all the glorious spaces between the letters making them individual and memorable. Show... pffftgrmmmphhhh uggggg
Butt hurt is strong with this one
A "show" enthusiast. There might be 12 of you in all of america
a Song Of Time cover as outro? Best review ever!
BIRD!
AutoAgitator That's a birb actually.
BIRD UP
I like the gray cloth seats that will catch any and every one of your skid marks and tell everyone else about it
Skyline's. Aren't. Special
Torrent D:
Torrent skylines ain't not special
To me yes.they.are. My fav is the r31 which noone likes.
"Crazy like the Tell Tale Heart"..... I just had 8th grade English class flash backs. Keep doing what you do Mr. Regular.
i would like a automatic one
id be ok with any engine that was available for it, rb20de and a auto would work out for me well .
Guess you're more worried about comfort and convenience than most people, as am I.
Josuke the Shitposter
Just because he want an auto Skyline? Get rid of yourself
Hyper Vanilo nah, I can't get just why auto cars exist
Excuses excuses, you said to kill himself because he want an auto Skyline then make a comeback by saying "nah, I can't get just why auto cars exist", if you cant grasp such fact exist then why involve him in your afterthought?
America likes the Skyline because of Fast & The Furious and the R34 GTR, which honestly is a gorgeous car.
Just got out of navy bootcamp and i see this in my feed. Helllllll yes.
shoutout to the roman doing the song of time at the end there. hit me right in the nostalgic feels
Euro Honda Accord 7G has a similarly small battery. I was worried all through the week the temperatures stayed around 5°F this winter. But it worked.
You raised my hopes and dashed them quite expertly sir, bravo!
At least we all now know what Regular Car Review's favorite N64 Zelda was.
That makes this day worth living.
When I was younger, I was into Nissan cars for a bit. The Exterra and 350z stood out to me, but I also had a fascination with the Skyline for just how incredibly average it looked. I've enjoyed the sleeper aesthetic ever since.
>read a plot where a car girl and her hubby do it in the front seat an R33
>15 minutes later, see RCR uploaded a review of the R33
What's with that?
