Just a note, the Honda Preludes mechanical 4WS that owners kept was on the 80s model (as described in the video) but the 90's models from the era of this car had electronic 4WS which most owners eventually disabled. Back in the late 2000s it was standard advice given to new owners of used 4th/5th gen Preludes as the electronic 4WS ECUs/systems were starting to fail due to age and the crashes caused by it were racking up.
@@aaroncollins5188 it was mostly replaced by torque vectoring for the top spec models but some mid-tier models(JDM Si and SiR, european VTi) could be ordered with 4WS
What makes these jdm cars so valuable to me is when the owners ask, "you wanna go for a ride?" I had an owner who just parked there 1986 toyota ae86 Levin about 1 block down where I was helping my friend move in. I dropped his stuff and just ran over to it and I had a super enjoyable time thinking, "inital d, gran turismo, best motoring"

Stunning car, excellent video. The video game parallels and other stuff made me feel like this is part of a weird trilogy of this, the Viper SRT10 not long ago (Spoiled James Weis lol), and the S2000 (the I GET HARD WHEN YOU LOOK AT MY SKYLINE is a silly B-Side to I DON'T NEED THIS, I GOT AN S2000!).
Wouldn't it be great if he did a street race in Rome with a bunch of Fiat 500s, Minis, and a single Ford GT40. It'd cost a fortune! But it would be a sick reference. Or anything with a TVR Speed Twelve.
Just wanted to mention, these GTS-Ts are quite fine cars to daily drive too. Parts are sadly getting rarer by the day, but keep up with typical maintenance & don’t thrash them around 24/7, they’ll keep going for a really long time. I’ve got 220,000 miles on my ‘91 GTS-T, on my 7th year owning it, & had nothing more serious than a fuel pump leave me stranded. I hope whoever wins this one will enjoy it instead of leaving it in a garage.
This is an amazing review , diving deep into what this car actually means These cars appeal to me due to the aforementioned feeling of nostalgia. For me it's conceived nostalgia I haven't even ever experienced. These cars are almost a portal into the past yet are somewhat quite mundane and ordinary. Without the engine in this car it's just a slightly more than average late 80s-90s car and that is non more evident in the sedans, yet to me this car stands for more than just it's engine , I see it as a time when people cared about their craft, the skyline of the 80s and 90s excites my love for attention to detail, these cars are a piece of art in their own way Even though realistically they're just a rwd Altima
How is this so good? The Skyline has been talked about, movied, blogged, video gamed and been made a legend. I absolutely do not ever need to see one again. And yet this is a great review and makes the car seem new and interesting. Well done!
Beautiful timeless car. I saw my first Skyline GTS-T in person back in 2008 here in Canada since our antique import law allows 15 yr old vehicles. It was a dark grey/black model, surprised the hell out of me when I looked over and saw it pass me on the road and I couldn't take my eyes off it on the commute to work.
I come for the car review, I stay for the literiture references and philosophy, and I stay late for the synthesis and unique thoughts on such things. It what makes this channel so marvellous. It's a formula no other channel does.
drove my 1986 Mustang lx coupe 5.0, 5 speed yesterday and that's a good reminder of what the 80s/90s were like. No options, loud as hell, slow but, hilarious.
This is your best review. I have no love for R32s or Skylines in general, but this was poetry in motion. The reverence, and irreverence, paid tops everything before this. Well done.
Do the VQ community a solid Bryan and get around to watching Tokyo Drift so you can finally review a god damn Z33. The character talk shall be legendary.
“For all the nostalgia, it’s better to leave memories alone than to risk finding out it wasn’t as great as you thought it was.” gd this resonates with me at this point in my life
This is my buddys favorite version, and what I learned how to drive stick on in Japan. It may only have the 2.0 turbo, but it's a solid engine. I had the RB20DET in my 240 and it was the best car I ever owned.
Amazing review! In your element of course. Nice Motocompacto shoutout 😎 I’m surprised you are interested. Ironically, it’s top speed is actually lesss than the 35 year old motocompo. I think anything over 20mph is classified as a motorcycle for tax reasons.
turbo'd non-GTR skylines are an incredible driver's car. i daily drive an R33 GTS25t w/ the RB25DET that i've put some good time into cleaning up and it doesn't compare to any other driving experience i've ever had. these cars are damn fun, and when well taken care of are as reliable as any other nice straight 6 from the era. it's a car that speaks for itself, so keeping it stock is the path i'm taking -- i've become so obsessed with the car's history that i have the dealer brochure for the car in the seat for car shows!
A close friend of mine had a bone stock 89 gtst painted calsonic blue. Had the honor of doing the catback install with him in my garage. These cars are stunning in person, but I cant justify the prices on these cars in the states at all anymore. People forget the skylines were economy sedans.
As someone who couldn’t afford a skyline a strong contender is the Nissan Laurel. I got a 97 C35 which is based on the R34 chassis. No manual option but an RB25 Neo makes up for it ❤
R32 owner here. I cringed everytime he said "2018" for the legal year-this generation started in 1989, so they were legal all the way back in 2014. In my rural Wisconsin town, there was one since 2015, also a 1989 like mine. Bought mine in 2019, with average miles (174K kilometers), no rust, a few mods like GT-R seats (stocks are trash), ISR exhaust, coilovers, and R33 GT-R wheels. Paid just under 13K, a car like mine is probably 24-27K now. It's wonderful to drive. 2800 lbs, same as the 86 twins. Next to no turbo lag with very short gearing (2900 RPM at 60!). Both feels and is quick, especially for a 2 liter. Corners like it's on rails with the big 17s, the LSD is very tight, so breaking traction is easy. It feels like a dainty sports car, not a big, heavy Grand Tourer like a 3G Supra or Z31 300ZX (I've owned both). The best part? It doesn't feel 35 years old. The gearbox is the only thing that dates it, but it feels way newer than other cars I've owned from that era. Part of the reason I bought it was the mystique and reputation of the R32 (it's also objectively a great looking design). It also checks all the boxes of a fun to drive, powerful, RWD, manual, with the bonus of a 2+2 with a big trunk. Basically a Japanese E36 M3. Problem areas? Oil pump is the big one-the screws that hold it together were never lock-tite'd properly from factory. They don't cool well, but the entire cooling system as well as the oil pump were new when I bought it, so I've had no problems with either. The HICAS stopped working years ago, and the electronic climate control never worked all that well. Oh yeah, the clutch fork pivot failed, and took out the slave cylinder and the master cylinder, so those are all new. 1st gear syncro has always been dead but the rest are good. Several states including Maine, Pennsylvania, and Georgia are changing the legal status of imported JDM cars, by denying new yearly registrations. Very terrible stuff, makes my blood boil.
Here in Germany you still get these including this Model for less than half the Price of what it's worth in the USA and i always wondered why that is. I assume Germans just got into these Cars before Fast & Furious became a thing and i assume these were all also easier to get in Germany or Europe in general compared to the USA. Also absolutely everyone started bunkering the R34 and also the MK4 Toyota Supra here in Germany since Years only to wait and sell them for a Fortune to Americans one by one in a "slow drip". Yet at the same time you still find plenty of R32-R34s and MK4 Supras owned since the 1990s by one private person and sold for a fair price compared to US Prices Either way, great Car and sucks for Americans that these were prevented to get into the USA because of that weird 20-25 year (?) import rule Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
The auto manufacturers lobbied the government to screw Americans out of nice and fun cars, because they wanted Americans to suffer with the choices they (auto manufacturers) vomited out at us. Money. It's another reason why in some states Kei cars are getting their titles revoked. Going after the 25 + year imports again. Unfortunately, I can confidently assume there are corporate interests looking for a way to ban imports altogether for normal use. Americans are hungry for vehicles that we never had the chance to see on our streets. We've now gotten ourselves two terrible things; Interests in preventing ownership and interests in looking to profit off our desire to own what we couldn't.
As an owner of a r33 gtst. I do get stopped alot for questions and photos. Or catch people recording as I'm driving. And I'm just trying to drive to work 😅
The 1989 Skyline became 25 years old in 2014 not 2018. And the R34 is already being imported, there are a number of 1998 25GT Turbos stateside. The '99 GT-R will be legal next year.
That's a lovely one. :) They were never a dream car for me, but I like the R32s particularly, ...I did notice em being hawked online for really reasonable prices just before they went crazy, though, and I was like, 'Considering what else you could buy for that, I'd have one.' (And yaknow, Gen X gal, it's more my comfort level tech and stylewise than a lot of newer stuff. And there's kind of a beauty to it *not* having been one of my 'heroes' to fear meeting. I see one of two or three around here in this otherwise-generally-automotively-boring town, though , and yeah, that's a bit of cool to see on occasion. :) )

@@jwlmsJohn Cena is driving it thats why you don't see it
eh, probably only off by one order of magnitude, close enough
As a dedicated fan, I must say this is possibly one of your best works..or am i experiencing negative capability because its a Skyline? I know better, but its still a Skyline. Naa..it's just an R32, but thats what makes it so dope. Simple.
I recently got an r33 gts25t and it's been a super fun ride. The rb engine + skyline chassis combo is indeed magical. Such nice driving cars!
ok, out of all giveaway cars, this is probably the best car.
Literally every car has been better than this

Amazing you guys are giving cars like this away. Bravo.
Iirc they dropped it altogether for the 5th gen.
Man the sound of that RB20 is amazing.
It's 30yo...ignoring the hype, the fast and furious, the video games...it looks amazing even in 2023. It could have 120hp and I'd want it over most of the sports cars sold today. It is soo clean, well proportioned, it grabs your eyes without screaming at you.
When I look at this car, the Gran Turismo Arcade soundtrack plays in my head.
Great video. One of the JDM classics I never owned. Was more a toyota guy but I really like the non GTR R32s.

This is an amazing review , diving deep into what this car actually means
These cars appeal to me due to the aforementioned feeling of nostalgia. For me it's conceived nostalgia I haven't even ever experienced. These cars are almost a portal into the past yet are somewhat quite mundane and ordinary. Without the engine in this car it's just a slightly more than average late 80s-90s car and that is non more evident in the sedans, yet to me this car stands for more than just it's engine , I see it as a time when people cared about their craft, the skyline of the 80s and 90s excites my love for attention to detail, these cars are a piece of art in their own way
Even though realistically they're just a rwd Altima
“I watch Adam LZ while she CAMS” RCR literally never misses a joke lol
How is this so good? The Skyline has been talked about, movied, blogged, video gamed and been made a legend. I absolutely do not ever need to see one again. And yet this is a great review and makes the car seem new and interesting. Well done!
pat yourself on the back for this one. easily your best video yet. a lot of who you are was left here.
Being from New Zealand it's so funny to see a little Sunny like this being so hyped
Such a clean looking car... like a 240SX and a Integra Type R with a Fox body rear window. Not overdone with kits, vents, and spoilers
The last 7 minutes of this video is why I love this channel and what videos it produces 👌🏻
drove my 1986 Mustang lx coupe 5.0, 5 speed yesterday and that's a good reminder of what the 80s/90s were like. No options, loud as hell, slow but, hilarious.
Absolutely amazing. We miss out on such great cars in the U.S.
Not anymore, go get you one while you still can! I got myself this exact model last year, also a 60th anniversary 👌🏼
This is your best review. I have no love for R32s or Skylines in general, but this was poetry in motion. The reverence, and irreverence, paid tops everything before this. Well done.
You can get the 34's now! A friend just imported one, and it's way smaller than Gran Turismo made it feel like 😍
this video is poetry, it made me cry. I'm buying a gtst in a week.
I KNEW IT!!!!! Literally saw this car pass my house and I knew it was happening!!!!!
Same, I remember this about a year ago and I actually got to ride in this car and he mentioned me in the video. I also live in Schuylkill county
Best GTST I’ve seen in years.
Your commentary/writing has gotten SO GOOD! You really have found your flow. Ever think about writing a book?
Honestly a book could be a great idea
This guy's commentary is impressive.
If it doesn't have the subtitle as "HOT DICKS! HOT DICKS! HOT DICKS!", I'll be somewhat disappointed.
The R32 Skyline is influential everywhere. Also, damn that's one beautiful car.
16:19 yes they were, R34 GTRs were Paul Walker's main cars in 2F2F and F&F4
Ive been dailying a 370gt skyline for years. this made me smile
The white paint on this is perfect, what a beauty
What a beautiful looking 32, simple and clean 🤩
The hicas light only comes on when the system needs service doesn’t mean it’s on and working lol.
It's just the way the R32s sit that does it for me. Ever since I saw a dark grey GTR fly past our family car when I was a kid.
Deep cut with the VCL reference. Ah, good times. I still miss Yerf though. :')
This was a vindicating review. Thank you Mr. Regular.
"Looking at a rose-tinted world through bare eyes." Damn. That hit hard.
Still got mine. It's the car you always glance back at in the parking lot when walking away.
Do the VQ community a solid Bryan and get around to watching Tokyo Drift so you can finally review a god damn Z33. The character talk shall be legendary.
That's what I am here for. I came to this channel for the cars. I stayed for the philosophical/literal audio essays. Keep it up!
“For all the nostalgia, it’s better to leave memories alone than to risk finding out it wasn’t as great as you thought it was.” gd this resonates with me at this point in my life
The R32 is by far the best drivers car of all of them, including the R35. That lighter weight makes all the difference.
I do not understand why people like these cars. Please, RCR, help me, you're my only hope.
I lived through the import wave of these in Australia, overhyped cars and the owners now have golf R's and such.
They’re fun cars to drive
A rich racing heritage is always a strong foundation for a car's fanbase or at least it was when that sort of thing mattered.
Well-tuned chassis, easy to tune further, basically a Japanese Mustang with optional AWD, forbidden fruit is cool.
This is my buddys favorite version, and what I learned how to drive stick on in Japan. It may only have the 2.0 turbo, but it's a solid engine. I had the RB20DET in my 240 and it was the best car I ever owned.
Our lord and savior, the Skyline 🙏 Another great video, Mr Regular
Amazing review! In your element of course. Nice Motocompacto shoutout 😎 I’m surprised you are interested. Ironically, it’s top speed is actually lesss than the 35 year old motocompo. I think anything over 20mph is classified as a motorcycle for tax reasons.
Wasn’t expecting a Stavros shoutout, but it was what won me over to the point being made.
Gaddamn can this man make me nostalgic for something I never had any interest in. Bravo Mr. Regular, bravo 👏👏👏
Oh wow, what a way to be surprised on a refreshed youtube page
The Skyline was Paul Walker's hero car in 2 Fast 2 Furious.
I could listen to that turbo all day
Can confirm, I too am excited for the Honda Motocompacto. Little runabout you can literally toss in the trunk of your car for $1k? Sold!
turbo'd non-GTR skylines are an incredible driver's car. i daily drive an R33 GTS25t w/ the RB25DET that i've put some good time into cleaning up and it doesn't compare to any other driving experience i've ever had. these cars are damn fun, and when well taken care of are as reliable as any other nice straight 6 from the era. it's a car that speaks for itself, so keeping it stock is the path i'm taking -- i've become so obsessed with the car's history that i have the dealer brochure for the car in the seat for car shows!
Same brother. It’s an incredibly rewarding car
Being a car reviewer and still haven't seen Tokyo Drift is just crazy.
A close friend of mine had a bone stock 89 gtst painted calsonic blue. Had the honor of doing the catback install with him in my garage. These cars are stunning in person, but I cant justify the prices on these cars in the states at all anymore. People forget the skylines were economy sedans.
As the driver of a 1995 Mazda RX-7, “Looking at a rose-tinted world through bare eyes” hits home, painfully and long lastingly so.
So cool of you to let those kids drive the Skyline.
Dam. The writing on the back half of this went hard. I’ll probably rewatch this one a few times.
As someone who couldn’t afford a skyline a strong contender is the Nissan Laurel. I got a 97 C35 which is based on the R34 chassis. No manual option but an RB25 Neo makes up for it ❤
when he said "hyundai is never making the vision 74"
I felt that
and it didn't feel good
i literally just bought a r32 gtr in september with 83k kms on it and its mint inside.... pretty much but such a blast to drive
Recently my brother passed away. We used to play the heck out of Gran Turismo on PS1 with a Skyline. I’ve always wanted one because of that game.
I got to drive my dream car last week when someone brought in a GT4 ST205 for maintenance. Made my day even though i got to drive it 20ft.
Yet at the same time you still find plenty of R32-R34s and MK4 Supras owned since the 1990s by one private person and sold for a fair price compared to US Prices
Either way, great Car and sucks for Americans that these were prevented to get into the USA because of that weird 20-25 year (?) import rule
Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
PSSSST! Mensch, sei leise, bevor die Amis auch noch UNSERE JDMs wollen. Reicht es nicht, dass die unsere Audi RS2 und E30/36 wollen?
The auto manufacturers lobbied the government to screw Americans out of nice and fun cars, because they wanted Americans to suffer with the choices they (auto manufacturers) vomited out at us.
Money.
It's another reason why in some states Kei cars are getting their titles revoked. Going after the 25 + year imports again.
Unfortunately, I can confidently assume there are corporate interests looking for a way to ban imports altogether for normal use.
Americans are hungry for vehicles that we never had the chance to see on our streets.
We've now gotten ourselves two terrible things;
Interests in preventing ownership and interests in looking to profit off our desire to own what we couldn't.
I've always wanted to see the Alps. Can I come hangout with you for about a week? 😁
The R32 has always been my favorite Skyline.
Thank you for making this enjoyable video. I almost never ever see these cars in Oregon so I still find them rather interesting.
As an owner of a r33 gtst. I do get stopped alot for questions and photos. Or catch people recording as I'm driving. And I'm just trying to drive to work 😅
Love your stuff bro.
I was thinking about this car last night and this video popped up this morning.
We need some motorcycle reviews
Offering a group of a ride you just met in a Skyline. Hell, my wife and I are around 50, and We would have takem you up on that!
If I knew nothing else anpit you, that alpne makes you worthy of my Respect. For the best qay to see a man's true self, one looks at his actions, not his words. Especially how he trests those under his position, or that offer nothing to him.
