Route 66 Gems And The Other One

Traveling back from California to IL we stayed at some great spots that are totally worth checking out. From the great live band at The Weatherford to the great community atmosphere of the Blue Swallow and topped off with a fire in the Wagon Wheel's fireplace we loved these three spots. On the other hand The Lincoln Motel, while clean and adequate, totally missed on the quant Route 66 Motel meter and utterly lacked the charm of the others.

I was really shocked at how comfortable that car was for the trip, I would not hesitate to take it anywhere (given good roads!) We had a great time and only bent two rims and destroyed one front spoiler! Thanks for watching.

That really was what made these places so awesome, the passion of the owners to make them a destination spot and not just a hotel. We loved wandering around the Blue Swallow and chatting with everyone sitting out in their chairs enjoying the evening, made it feel like a neighborhood.

10:40 could definitely use some more TLC. Interesting room colors inside the room. A clean room, with a decent bed and shower is really all you need , not the flashiest place....

Very awesome, Dick! Starting with my old stomping groud, Charley's! I lived in Flagstaff over 20 years, so you know i was there, and Zane Grey's. Did you make it underneath to the Gopher Hole? Yeah, a 3rd bar! The Blue Swallow and the Wagon Wheel was cool too! Thanks for the memories and tour!👍👍👍

Gopher Hole was not open the night we were there, believe me we tried! Such a cool old hotel and entertainment spot.

Ya the Wagon Wheel was really nice. We actually lit a fire in the fire pit that evening and enjoyed a bit of Scotch around the campfire. One thing different about the Wagon Wheel vs the Blue Swallow, at the Swallow everyone was sitting in the chairs outside and we had some great conversations just strolling around.
At the Wagon Wheel no one came out of their rooms which I thought some might wander over to the fire pit.
