    The kit costs $18,995 plus tax and shipping. You need a 1997 to 2004 Corvette donor car, which costs about the same as the kit. You need a boxter trans. Used around $4,000 or rebuilt with a warranty $6600. Boxter shifter and cable new around $700 or used around $300. Engine to trans adapter kit $1800. Misc. other parts. Using a complete running Corvette with manual trans gets you a lot of parts you will need. You will have around $43,000 invested before you start the build. I would expect the finished car to cost around $50,000 minimum. It will depend on how much you spend on the donor 'vette. You can buy a new base model C8 for around $60,000 and get a new car with a warranty. Something to consider.

    I have been following DDR Motorsport for 14 years, and I actually created their Wikipedia article in 2006. They have been a REALLY shady company ever since they started out. The only talk about them in the Kit-car community is from someone who was scammed by DDR, and sued them. It really seems like a company that has little knowledge of engineering supercars, but they are absolutely determined to show off at all costs. For the first few years they tried to create the illusion that they were making multiple models and they pretended they had built a few cars. However it all seemed to be the exact same demo car, except they would add a few new bolt-on parts to it, and they'd paint it a new colour. However, the car always seemed to have the exact same 3S-GTE motor that nobody was interested in.
    The Wikipedia page was frequently hijacked by an IP address from the Dominican (hmm), and they would rewrite the article to sound like a DDR brochure. I gave up on maintaining it due to the blatant advertising he was trying to use Wikipedia for.
    Their website offered different fictional models, one of them had a Rotary engine, another had a Subaru engine. There was no evidence of any of these being built, and also no evidence that they even knew how they were going to build these (I would have wanted to see confirmation that they at least understood that a custom solution would need to be engineered to adapt these engines to a mid-engine transaxle). They were all hypothetical ideas from somebody with apparently very little knowledge of automotive engineering.
    It appears that Diego never allowed the car to be reviewed, because there's no word from anyone who has ever sat in their demo car. So there's not much confidence out there that it is even a properly engineered chassis, or that their demo car was any good at all. It had an old stock MR2 engine, so perhaps a review might be embarrassing for them?
    Around 2010-2011, there was was some talk online from the first customer (the first customer that anyone had heard of), and he was claiming that DDR is scamming him. Apparently he waited through very long delays for parts that were missing from delivery, and they refused to reply to him. Apparently he sued them.
    In 2011 there was a post on a popular Kit car community forum, a member was asking if DDR is actually still in business, because we had heard nothing from DDR, and no customers appeared to exist. Diego posted a rude and very angry reply, called the poster a liar, and said that they are still in business. It was a very pathetic and childish reply from someone who seems to have more temper than reading skills. The post is still online if you want to look for it. Aside from this post, I've never seen Diego appear on any online Kitcar communities.
    There's very little evidence of these cars out there. Aside from the guy who claimed to be scammed, the only other confirmed customer I've found online is a guy with a TH-cam channel called "The Ferret", he completed his build, but it is just the original MR2-engine design. The pictures on his blog revealed that one of my early suspicions were true, that the chassis does not seem to be designed by someone with much engineering knowledge. It is an incredibly simplistic design, which appears to just be a tube-frame that has fittings to attach a complete MR2 subframe. Many parts of the chassis appeared to be made by someone with poor fabrication skills.
    My guess is that in the last 15 years, they may have made less than 5 cars. Maybe more, but if there are any others, either the owners are embarrassed of them, or they never completed their build? I wouldn't hold your breath on them offering you a demo car for review. They don't have any cars, and since the only experiences we've heard about them have been negative experiences, I doubt we're going to see any other cars.

    So with the kit, engine, electronics and all the other stuff you're looking more at like $50,000, if you didnt have the tools, thatl be an extra few grand, then theres wheels and tyres, not too much really about a grand or more, if you dont have the talent or the tools to put it together you would have to hire someone to do it for you which will probs be a few months of work for like an extra $10,000, so overall not as cheap as they will have you make it out to be.

    • @MuShinnen
      @MuShinnen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not necessarily. It all depends on where you're sourcing your parts from. There are plenty of wrecked c5 corvettes out there with solid parts to make them donor cars. You can get them dirt cheap in the states too. Other LS engines can be acquired for cheap too. You can also rip the electrical harness from the corvette as a base, and splice in whatever functions you need in addition to it.
      All that is assuming you want the c5 variant anyway, there's nothing stopping someone from using a different engine set up, such as the Impala based model, or one fitting a Honda engine (dirt cheap on the market right now). Sourcing parts is just as important as having all the tools, and if you know where to look it's easy to get parts for cheap.

    its a very nice kit, and you really have to be passionate about a custom experience to buy one, because the reality is that is nowhere close to $17,000 as the image in this video shows, infact you can't even buy their cheapest kit for $17k. You will easily spend triple by the time it is complete.. I am looking to buy one because I want a custom made car, but if I just wanted a fast cheap supercar, there are McLaren Mp4-12c for $85k used, and Nissan GTR is even cheaper, like 50k. Buy this car for the right reasons.

  • @nickkraw1

    K this could be a dumb question but I'm going to ask anyways, I'm completely new to kit cars. I went to their website and saw that most of the kits are made for engines and functional components of really old cars. So if you buy a corvette that's 15-20 years old and put this kit on it, like yeah it'll look cool, but aren't you basically going to be driving a worn down hunk of junk that the previous owners have probably driven into the ground and which has possibly hundreds of thousands of km/miles on it? Not to mention antiquated technology that couldn't compete on the track with a new sports car? And won't that be extremely unreliable and not last long at all given that its so old? How is there any reliability and how are they performing so well with such old internal components? Is it expected to last? Where do they get these parts if not old cars? I appreciate anyone who takes the time to answer. Thank you and God bless you.
