You are my favourite creator when it comes to dog nutrition and health! I’m getting a 14 week old corgi pup this weekend and I’ll be using all the info you taught me to make sure he’s eating everything he needs ❤
Just saw your video now and here in Germany raw feeding for dogs is so different. For example: we mostly use 80:20, means 80% muscle meat, organs, raw meaty bones etc, and 20% vegetables and fruit. We also calculate the amount of food per day different. We usually calculate with 1,5% - 2,5% of the body weight in kilograms. So for example: a 30kg dog with 2% of its body weight would get 600g of food each day.

Question! Your cheat sheet shows that the amount of food given for an averagely active dog should be 2.5% of the dogs weight. Based on that, I've been feeding my 40-pound dog (whose weight i wanted to maintain) 1 pound (16oz) per day. But this recipe for a 40-pound dog is 22 oz. Can you explain why?
Great question! So the calories and weight of food don't always match up. I like to tell beginners to pay attention to the weight of food only in the beginning because it's a lot easier to follow for that time being. The formula to figuring out the weight of food your dog needs daily is VERY general, but it's a good start. Once you start getting into the calorie realm, the weight of food starts mattering less. For example, if you're feeding a meal of really fatty cuts, you'll probably reach their daily caloric intake with less food, and if you're feeding super lean meats, you'll need to feed a lot more food to meet those calories! Does that make sense?
I love all the information on your channel! If you have any information on gently cooking this food it would be helpful! I think I would prefer to serve gently cooked food rather than raw.
The only problem with that is, then you need to ad a different source of calcium, because you cant feed cooked bones. Ground eggshells is a good alternative, you should only calculate yourself how much. This is a recipe i use from Dr Judy on youtube. The puploaf recipe. Thanks for requesting the Puploaf Recipe! Love your content! Your channel helped me switch my puppy to raw. Currently still using a premade balanced grind by BJ’s Raw (would love of you can review them!) as a base and adding stuff like necks and wings for more calcium, salmon for omega 3’s, quail eggs, green tripe, kefir and a raw supplement by Earth Animal. Your videos are super well made and informative, please keep posting ❤️
I have been feeding homemade raw for 12 years to 2 dogs. I have never given them kelp or iodine supplement. I do feed egg yolks regularly and occasional salmon. They are 14 and 15 with no health issues. I am not saying that this is right but I have not seen adverse effects. I now feed duck heads a couple times per week which I assume have some thyroid hormone. I also have never given mine fish oil or vitamin e.
I wholeheartedly agree with your approach. Pasture raised eggs and poultry necks I'm sure provide the proper amount of iodine, but since not everyone can source pasture raised meats, and I don't want owners continuously feeding neck because of potently providing too much of the thyroid hormones, I suggest kelp. Pasture raised and grass fed meat will be so much higher in things like zinc, vitamin D, vitamin E, omega 3s! That's what I strive to feed over adding other things to the diet
@@PawsofPrey This makes sense. It is definitely a balancing act and depends upon the food sources. I have been fearful of too much iodine. I used to feed necks too often and have since tried to be better about rotating RMBs and using things like wings and backs. It is only recently I added duck heads and those I assume would have even more thyroid hormone than necks! Appreciate your videos and sharing your knowledge. One other thing that I believe is most responsible for thyroid issues in dogs is over vaccination and exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals like flea preventatives and lawn chemicals.
@@mamabear9389 wait i have only been feeding duck necks.... is this an issue i should be worried about? I was always afraid of the other bones like wings and him choking. He is 31 lbs.
@ashley ward They say that necks can have residual thyroid hormone on them so it is sometimes advised to not feed them exclusively. However, I can tell you from personal experience I have fed many necks and never had a problem. Like you I thought they were safer so mainly fed them. One thing you could try for variety is chicken backs. They are a wonky shape and discourage choking. They are becoming my favorite RMB. So you could give those a try. I would not overly worry about the necks but giving a back occasionally could be helpful. RFM has duck frames also but they are too hard for my small dogs.
Hi! I wonder why 12% of raw meaty bones equals 147g of chicken wings? Should 12% of 632g be 75.84g since the raw meaty bones also include the meaty part, or do you mean 12% of just bone? Thank you in advance!
How come I never hear anyone talking about adding Wheat Germ to their dogs bowl? Always Flax, or Hemp, Chia, kelp. What about Wheat Germ?? I add it to my dogs bowl for Vitamin E and A. It even has protein. I grew up eating it on everything, so I always wondered, why not for dogs?
I Fed my pomoranian a chicken wings and she popped the bones in sharp toothpick sizes is that how it's supposed to be or should it all be disolved ,it really scared me!
You may need to give her less than a whole wing. This formula is for dogs 40lbs. I’m sure she’s less so you may need to measure her food according to her weight! And maybe not the bones because not all small dogs are able to digest them. I’m no expert but I am a dog mom of 5+ years! I hope this helps ❤
Shoot me an email if you ever have any issues getting the formulator. Sometimes it gets sent to spam and promotions 😓 I can always send it to you personally
Hello, I do feed a raw diet but wondering if you have your dogs fecal checked more than once a year for either parasites or bacteria I don’t want to ask my vet because he doesn’t believe in a raw diet so that’s why I’m asking some people who actually feed a raw diet. Thank you very much
I have a question! about how can we deal with bacterias on chicken or contaminated meat! like not the ones they bring with them naturally I mean the ones like industry mistakes. or enviromental contamination ? theres a way to keep safe from them? thank you so much
it is so hard for me to get over the bones part despite trusting you. i've given my shepherd med rare, close to rare chicken thigh without the bones but all raw with bone is such a tough hurdle for me
50 years ago our Vet said No bones, except the chicken neck. I don't remember if advised on raw or cooked. The neck being cartilage was the ok. The dog was about 8 pounds, similar to my dog now. Larger bones just seem so inappropriate!! But, we'll see.
What about dogs that have chicken allergy? I have 70lb bully with chicken allergy and 110 cane no allergies lol. Hard to figuire out their right proportions
I just watched another video of your that said spinach causes anemia in pets. But this video recommends it. Please help me understand. I must be missing something. Thanks.
I'm so sorry for the confusion. Spinach does not cause anemia, but anemia may occur if you RELY on it for iron in the diet (as in, you don't feed much animal-based ingredients for iron, you only rely on plant-based) spinach is still just fine to feed for fiber and small amounts of trace minerals!
I just want to be clear because I feed my dog twice a day. This beginner meal is once a day, correct? And some of us are still waiting for an answer regarding spinach. One video states to avoid it, this one promotes it.
Aw this is wpnderful! Will you be making a video like this one for cats too? I'm not too sure my cat is getting everything he needs in the right proportions from his pre-made food that I order online. I do believe he is allergic to chicken.

Great video! Im still having trouble calculating for my 35lb dog. Im not sure if im reading it right. 14 oz a day just seems like not enough food for him. He just still seems hungry.
Is he too skinny? Is he too heavy? That's what you go by. Some dogs always seem hungry and they would eat 24 seven if you let them. Put some of the raw food in a Kong or a slow feeder bowl so he hast to work for it, and it takes longer to eat it.
@No Games no, he is not too skinny. His vet said he could lose about 5 lbs. I got him at the vet in 2020, and he was 26lbs... a little to skinny, in my opinion. He loves to beg, so maybe that is why he seems hungry. I just wanted to make sure I was calculating the right way and giving him enough food. It says 14 oz a day. I started a week ago feeding him a brand called viva raw dog food.
Same here! I hoped my 40lb dog was so excited about mealtime now because he loved the raw diet. Now im wondering if hes starving on 16oz per day since the recipe in this video for a 40lb dog is 22oz!! 🤔
@Sittin Pretty Jamberry Nails so I give my 35lb dog 8oz in the morning and 8oz at night. He could lose 2 or 3 lbs, but he is not overweight. He is pretty active. That's probably why my dog is super hungry by dinner time. Yeah, if it's says 22oz, maybe try it and split it between morning and night and see how he does.
Can I have advice on how to improve my dog’s meals? I’m slowly switching my dog over to raw food. For reference he’s a large, 80lb 2 year old pitbull/boxer mix. So far I have: • Ground beef • Chicken thigh/leg meat • Beef liver • Chicken hearts • Unseasoned and homemade chicken & bone broth • Apple slices OR • Sweet potato • Vitamin E (sometimes) I have chicken feet but he won’t eat them so we’ll use it in our broths. I’m planning on buying some canned sardines and spinach. How can I improve this to make sure he gets everything he needs? Thanks!!
I think the site wants you to go to the site advised for formulation you need for your dog. There is a "calculator" you pay for that helps. I haven't yet, as I have questions. I think this starter recipe is still great, just need to tweek for my dog.
Just started homemade raw today after feeding my corgi commercial raw for months. He doesn't seem to like the liver and refuses to eat it (and kidney). I don't want what I bought to go to waste and I understand it's pretty important for the vitamins. Does anyone have any advice to get him to eat it?
I wish i could eat this! Im gonna feed to my Pablo. Thank you. Its just hard to feed these meats to my dog raw as everythibg ive known was they have to be cooked.
I should have explained this better. If you rely on spinach for iron, this could result in an iron deficiency. Spinach itself doesn't cause an iron deficiency.
It would certainly provide some! According to the data we have now, it doesn't fully meet it, but that doesn't mean you can't take a break from kelp and use it every now and then as the sole iodine source. Every meal doesn't have to be 100% (and hey, maybe it is! All we know is the data we currently have)

Do you use a meat grinder to ground everything up except the vegetables?
Yes, that would be ideal, especially when you wanna mix the vitamins in there.
She gives her own dog raw Whole. She doesn't grind
Is there a way to make up meal and freeze them with a raw food diet?
@@mamabear9389and I appreciate your input! I love hearing what raw feeders who have been feeding 10+ years do/have done. It's very insightful
Is this just one meal, intended for twice a day, or is this the full nutrition for the day?
This provides the full day's worth of calories and nutrients. It can be split up however you'd like within a 24 hour period!
Is this fed twice a day
How do i find out the crude protein?
How come I never hear anyone talking about adding Wheat Germ to their dogs bowl? Always Flax, or Hemp, Chia, kelp. What about Wheat Germ?? I add it to my dogs bowl for Vitamin E and A. It even has protein. I grew up eating it on everything, so I always wondered, why not for dogs?
Should I got worry about Salmonella poisoning or worms in raw foods or not ?
What about bacteria from raw meats like chicken and pork?
Was that just for 1 meal!?
Yeah but it is the amount of calories that a 45 pound dog needs a day so you can split it into 2 meals if need be
Believe or not this diet is amazing for humans too.
I Fed my pomoranian a chicken wings and she popped the bones in sharp toothpick sizes is that how it's supposed to be or should it all be disolved ,it really scared me!
Please advise
You may need to give her less than a whole wing. This formula is for dogs 40lbs. I’m sure she’s less so you may need to measure her food according to her weight! And maybe not the bones because not all small dogs are able to digest them. I’m no expert but I am a dog mom of 5+ years! I hope this helps ❤
@@Ceobri thank you 🙏
I thought you said to avoid spinach (and legumes) in your most recent video?
i bough your interactive formulator and i didnt get anything? not even a payment confirmation email
Is the money missing from your account? Sounds like a glitch on the website not reflective off her tbh
@@mariscostumes3815 I fixed the issue with getting a refund through paypal and buying again using a different email
it had to be an issue on my part
Shoot me an email if you ever have any issues getting the formulator. Sometimes it gets sent to spam and promotions 😓 I can always send it to you personally
Hello, I do feed a raw diet but wondering if you have your dogs fecal checked more than once a year for either parasites or bacteria I don’t want to ask my vet because he doesn’t believe in a raw diet so that’s why I’m asking some people who actually feed a raw diet. Thank you very much
I have a question! about how can we deal with bacterias on chicken or contaminated meat! like not the ones they bring with them naturally I mean the ones like industry mistakes. or enviromental contamination ? theres a way to keep safe from them? thank you so much
Where do I find hearts at the grocery store
Chicken hearts are in chicken section. Beef hearts should be in area of beef, but may need ask butcher
When I do research, it says you should feed half of this daily, only do it weekly. Is that correct? Or should you always feed a meal like this daily ?
it is so hard for me to get over the bones part despite trusting you. i've given my shepherd med rare, close to rare chicken thigh without the bones but all raw with bone is such a tough hurdle for me
50 years ago our Vet said No bones, except the chicken neck. I don't remember if advised on raw or cooked. The neck being cartilage was the ok. The dog was about 8 pounds, similar to my dog now. Larger bones just seem so inappropriate!! But, we'll see.
Fabulous video and channel!
What organs do you normally add to meet Iodine requirement?
There's some iodine in liver, but you'd really have to feed something like the thyroid gland to meet iodine needs
How many calories is this meal specifically? Do you feed your dog 1 or 2x/day?
Is this one meal for the whole day or would I need to feed 2x a day ?
This is one meal for the whole day. You can split into however many smaller feedings you need.
Just bought your formulation calculator. I’ve got four different dogs, this will be great to help me calculate for each of the,
You rock! My dogs prefer sardines. Can I substitute instead of salmon without causing an imbalance?
the vitamin D is a tad bit lower in sardines, so I'd up the amount just a little!
Is salmon oil for dogs good a good substitute for the tuna?
Yes
What do you give if your dog wont eat fish
Once a day?
Can eggshell powder absorb as a calcium source?
Yes
Thanks for all your videos you helped us out alot what brand was the vitamin e oil
I have a 40 lb collie who id like to switch to raw. Would a meal like this be fed once a day?
good question. Is there a suggested amount based on weight? Then half??
She answered that on another comment, that was written a month ago. You can scroll a little down then you should find it 😊
@@ThePinkBlur961 Oh, but Pink ... that would require common sense. 🙄Thank you. I've been burning the candle at both ends lately.
Do I have to clean / wash all those raw meat before?
Dogs drink from the toilet and puddles. No.
Aw this is wpnderful! Will you be making a video like this one for cats too? I'm not too sure my cat is getting everything he needs in the right proportions from his pre-made food that I order online. I do believe he is allergic to chicken.
Yep I will!
I loved this stripped down to the basics of the amounts of those specific animal... but using simple algebra or weighted average, could easily convert it.
Thanks the vid
OH, I've hit a snag. lol. I am not good at Math. I have a 10 lb small dog. I will work on this, maybe get my math genuis brother in law involved. sigh.
So is this meal just once a day for a 40lb dog?
That's right! You can split the total meal into however many feedings you need though
Is the recipe meant to be given one or two times a day? @@khristinamarie9837
great video thank you so much
Can I have advice on how to improve my dog’s meals? I’m slowly switching my dog over to raw food. For reference he’s a large, 80lb 2 year old pitbull/boxer mix. So far I have:
• Ground beef
• Chicken thigh/leg meat
• Beef liver
• Chicken hearts
• Unseasoned and homemade chicken & bone broth
• Apple slices OR
• Sweet potato
• Vitamin E (sometimes)
I have chicken feet but he won’t eat them so we’ll use it in our broths.
It’s usually because of the texture. Try freezing it or drying it out
Can I start feeding raw my 8 weeks puppy, or need to wait? Anyone please …
In a video it is stated, no spinach. I see it is added in this recipe.
Thank you!!!
Oh yes, thank you.
How to I even out this diet for a 10 lb dog?
Can I feed liver every day?
Be careful as it can be a little rich ,maybe 2 or 3 times a week for iron.
but it's in the DAILY recipe given. ???@@tonemc6047
I wish i could eat this! Im gonna feed to my Pablo. Thank you. Its just hard to feed these meats to my dog raw as everythibg ive known was they have to be cooked.
:( im getting an error everytime i try to download the cheatsheet
Oh no! Send me an email and I can get it to you :)
raw chicken? no worries about tape worms?
are drum stick safe for 38 lbs goldendoodle? also i never got the cheat sheet i did confirm the subscription
I am new to this and clueless. I want to confirm that this plate made with the recipe, that's for an entire day, not for just one meal, right??
Well this is a good video The girl needs to know what parts of a chicken or white meat versus dark meat. Thighs are dark meat not white meat!
❤❤❤❤❤
You said in your previous video that spinach causes anemia but you have it listed in this video!! Interesting… 🤔
I should have explained this better. If you rely on spinach for iron, this could result in an iron deficiency. Spinach itself doesn't cause an iron deficiency.
Is this 1 meal a day or feeding this 2x?
OK her last video just said that spinach should not be given to dogs because it causes deficiencies???
This dog gets more food than me!!! I have a 10kg cockapoo and he wouldn't be able to eat all that. Is this just one meal a day?
read the commens/questions. It's there after you calculate for your dogs size.
I lucked out I talked to my butcher that my work uses I got 16lb of ground beef hearts. It’s what he feeds his dogs. Now I half to portion and freeze
My dogs poop is black from raw diet what im i doing wrong
If I’m raising rabbits for meat would it be a healthy option to feed a whole small rabbit? It’s a big 100 pound cane corso.
I’m considering this because my Frenchie has black skin on his belly and itches. Thinking it’s from his kibble
Yeah I'm trying to get away from the dog food like Purina one. I'm really not trusting those guys anymore
Thankyou
This is so helpfull! Can you make one for cats that weight 5 or 6 kilograms?
Planning on it!
Getting a new pup on Friday. How do I introduce bones and teach them to chew so they don't choke
I never received my free cheat sheet
This is much much better than McDonalds or Taco Bell! What a lucky dog😂😂😂
Would adding a raw egg supplement iodine?
It would certainly provide some! According to the data we have now, it doesn't fully meet it, but that doesn't mean you can't take a break from kelp and use it every now and then as the sole iodine source. Every meal doesn't have to be 100% (and hey, maybe it is! All we know is the data we currently have)
Isn't raw chicken dangerous for dogs (salmonella) as it is to humans? Thank you
we get it for ourselves and only hear of rare supply chain issues. Safe meat handling is important though
What other meats is there? because my dog is allergic to beef.
Is this a 1 serving per day recipe?
