    To be fair the prices don't seem too bad considering you are paying a premium for UK brands and products, especially with the extra costs involved importing them to the EU now.

    Why would you want to shop "British" in Spain? The foods that you showed, I can't even call foods...Isn't one of the purposes of going to Spain to stop eating all that junk?

    We only used to go to the Iceland in Torre to get juice (dilute) cause they don't seem to do similar in Spain.
    I am amazed at the price rises that Mercadona put onto products for the Summer holiday season to watch them go back down again. Still cheaper to buy all fruit & veg off the markets

    We find everything we need and good quality in Mercadona and consum supermarkets I refuse to pay Tesco or Iceland prices in Spain there’s no need , you can see how empty this shop is of customers

    Recently returned from the same place as you and thought food prices were cheaper than UK! Anything imported at Iceland is going to be more expensive a bit like if Mercadona was to open a store in the UK they would need to charge more than they do in Spain.

    Yes, you are paying a premium to shop for British foods in Spain but some of those prices are not that different from current UK prices!

    I honestly don't think that is badly priced ,you are paying in the Euro currency and let's be honest Iceland have to pay a lot of import duty and transport into Spain for these products, you must have some kids staying over with you Steve buying Vimto

    It's not British but last year I paid 0.18€ for a kilo of salt, I went on some supermarkets websites to see what it would cost I think the cheapest was more than £1.

    I only but three items at the British supermarkets, diluting juice, chutney and battered onion rings as I cannot find them in any of the local supermarkets. I prefer three witches cleaning products and believe it or not there is a Spanish cleaning supply company in Blantyre which stocks them all, but double the price.

    • @ScottishCoupleInSpain
      @ScottishCoupleInSpain  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same with us. Get the diluting juice and that’s about it.

    The prices in Iceland Spain are crazy, dont know if they were the same before Brexit, or whether tariffs now are the reason they are so expensive. Having said that the same applies to Lidl and Aldi, prices way higher than in UK. Personally i think the supermarket fiod prices in Spain are much higher than UK.

    • @ScottishCoupleInSpain
      @ScottishCoupleInSpain  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends where you shop. The Spanish supermarkets are cheaper than uk. I was surprised when we moved here to see Aldi and Lidl are dearer than the UK stores though.

      @@ScottishCoupleInSpain I use Mercadona and Consum as well, I'd still say way more expensive than UK. I expected things like grapes, bananas ,to be cheaper in Spain, but no,dearer all year round.

    Crazy prices, can't imagine wh people would shop in places like that when local supermarkets are cheap and good quality
    Out of interest, how much was Irn-bru? There's a wee shop in Fuengirola that sells it but it's like €1.50-€2.00 per can!

  • @rhianhead6744

    Understandable that the prices are high to recover the cost of shipping. There are a few household products which I sometimes buy in the overseas supermarkets, but I am mystified why people would buy food here😳. It’s nearly all ultra processed ‘food’ when you have the delights of the fresh and healthy Mediterranean diet in abundance and cheaper in the local shops and markets ?

    Until last year they sold pork pies and sausages. After the latest deal to appease the DUP where everything from the ( UK) has to be labelled. (not for sale in the EU) no more of these items. How did they smuggle them to the south of Ireland before. Any way this prompted me to google and a retired chef who lives in Spain does the recipe for easy to make pork pies and many more......google JOHN KIRKWOOD. crumpets....lemon curd...etc ...We go to iceland for the baking butter and block lard.

    The truly British thing about this supermarket are the eye-waterning prices. 12 Euros for two bottles of red wine!!!! If you go to Al Campo or Masy Mas you can get 10 bottles of wine for the same price. 8 Euros for frozen Greggs sausage rolls! They're having a giraffe.

  • @yutubis

    I only go there for baked beans, mushy peas, extra mature cheddar, cream crackers, Marmite, Worcester sauce, Brown Sauce, Chutney, malt vinegar, battered Cod or Haddock, salt and vinegar crisps, crumpets, the list keeps getting longer 😄 ...everything else in Lidl, Aldi and Consum.. fruit and veg from the market

    Honestly Barry have you not shopped in the UK recently as those prices were in line with current UK Iceland prices and just a small mark up for importing them. IMHO. The only advantage is the packaging, the products are instantly recognisable. Other than that Eroski, Consum, Mercadonna, Lidl and Aldi will do very nicely. Forget fruit & veg from s/markets, local street markets are the place to go. Local s/markets or butchers will slice raw chicken breasts into steaks that only require a flash fry/grill in minutes if you ask them. Yes I agree the menu del dia solves a lot of catering issues for single ( like me) folks. But I'm talking to the already converted aren't I Barry 😎 Cheers DougT
